Not quite. When you log in to our Intranet from home, there is no access to the MIS system even if you log in as staff.

Ours is one site that identifies users by their logon and shows different information depending on the user. That way I only have to maintain one backend and style, and only have to tailor the staff-only bits.

Consider very carefully the sort of information you make available in such a fashion. Some data information should be kept separate, and possibly not accessible from home at all. Just a few months ago a school was criticised for a Data Protection breach because their externally-available MIS was secured with the same passwords as their public website. The website passwords were exposed, and subsequently the MIS. I can only imagine what the ICO would have to say if it had actually been on the same system and there was a breach.

Our schyool office prints a copy of the attendance after each form period. Any one who is late has to report to the school office anyway, so they are aware of any changes following form time.

The way I solved it was by using data collected by Lansweeper to check which computer they logged on to last. However, if you don't have any software currently tracking logons, it does make it quite tricky.

The manager you are referring to is a genuine Dell account manager, and is actually the manager for my school's account. I've always got decent service out of him. However, I don't expect him to be there for much longer, as I too have noticed very few Dell account managers spend very long dealing with schools - ours last an average of about a year. I have a theory that they use the schools team as a proving ground; anyone who's good gets promoted out, anyone who isn't gets pink slipped out. I prefer dealing with resellers when I can. They always seem much more keen for the business and I can leave the pain of dealing with Dell to them!

Batch file using IF NOT EXIST could do it, or use Robocopy as that will check for modifications and only copy f the file is changed or newer.

LosOjos was partly correct: it was mentioned to me yesterday that uninstalling most versions of pcAnywhere will break DCOM, which can screw up all sorts of server tasks including Remote Assistance, Microsoft Data Protection Manager, and even Symantec's own Backup Exec software. Enterprise Support - Symantec Corp. - Uninstalling pcAnywhere disables DCOM Service And people ask me why I refuse to use Symantec products!

In short, does anyone know if it is possible to buy additional licences for SMART Notebook to use on non-SMART boards? Our Junior school has a 50/50 split between SMART and RM boards. I would dearly love to give them all SMART boards, but we just don't have the money for it, so I'm wondering if I can at least give them all the same software to use so they can share resources and training.

I think you giuys may be confusing "reprographics management" with "print management". To me, it sound like the OP essentially wants a ticketing system for reprographics, which is far simpler than a full print management system like PaperCut.

This is interesting because if you have WCBS PASS as your MIS, pcAnywhere is probably installed on your MIS server for use by WCBS remote support. As far as I am aware there has been no warning or guidance from WCBS on the matter, despite the massive DP risk if the flaw were to be exploited. If this affects you, I would recommend stopping and/or disabling the pcAnywhere service immediately.

That's the active content filter that's blocking it. Basically, some of the text on the page is triggering an automated block. I still believe it will be repeated use of the word 'proxy'. If you call SwGFL they should be able to whitelist it for you.

Probably because it mentions 'proxy' and so is being categorised as a proxy site.

There are some scripts around here on the forums for pinning items to the Start Menu IIRC. There are no predefined settings for this in GP.

A colleague in another school passed me this last night: The concern, which I share, is that this company seems to be strongly implying they are affiliated with the now-defunct Laptops For Teachers government scheme that many here will be familiar with. The use of language such as "If you would like your school to be included in this round of funding" makes it sound like a grant, while offering to "buy back" makes it sound like they were the ones selling them in the first place. Their website does make it clear that they are a limited company, and they have a number of positive testimonials (anyone from here?). Still, the sales tactic in the above email seems pretty misleading. What do you guys think?

I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute here because I've been thinking about this recently, and a post in another thread yesterday reminded me of it again. Why do we get people to sign the AUP? For staff, it's an official school policy just like all the other school policies. Following school policy is a contractual obligation. We don't get anyone to sign any other policy, including the separate safeguarding policies which are at least as important For pupils, the AUP forms part of the school rules that they are expected to follow, just like (for example) the anti-bullying code, which neither they nor their parents sign separately. So, what makes the AUP so special that it needs signing, when almost nothing else does?

I can't replicate this with the same build number. If I put the cursor into the empty Search for: box, it stays there. What OS are you on? We are on Windows 7 here. I have noticed that if I Alt+Tab away from PowerPoint and Alt+Tab back, the cursor returns to where I left it on the slide (instead of being in the Search for: box), but it doesn't do it spontaneously.
