AFAIK there is only one version of Windows 8.1 RT

Does anyone know a way to manage the start layout on the Surface RT 8.1 Tablets? I have tried enabling group policy and using an xml file but it did not apply I also tried the powershell commands to import an xml file but that also failed. I have fully patched the surface tablets and am not sure what else to try.

Hi all, Recently, I've been given the task of managing Surface RT Tablets. I am wondering how you manage them, and if there is any possible way of getting some control, whether it be by scripts updating local group policies from a remote template, or doing them one by one (rather not). I have had a look at InTune, but our school simply can not afford it, even the education version. Unfortunately as they had bought all these tablets before I started, we are stuck with them. Also, do you use Microsoft accounts per classroom, or 1 account for all, or even just local accounts everywhere, and what is the restrictions on installing apps from the store? So if anyone has any tips or ways to manage these without paying for it, it would be highly appreciated because I'm running out of ideas. -Drayton95

I think I will end up just waiting for the new one then and create a new image from that. Now that this has happened once hopefully they don't screw it up again. I am currently just using generalised sysprep'd images via WDS, not sure on how to get other solutions like system centre working because I simply don't have the time at the moment. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to deploy the latest cumulative update via a GPO or script? Although I am going to create a new image, I would still like to get the current one working, if possible.

I have looked at the BITS group policy settings, and it seems to be restricting it too 500KB/s so the network traffic doesn't grind to a halt, I have tried only approving a single security update for the clients, but that won't even start to download, and that's only a couple meg

I have the clients set up to connect via host-name, and the proxy settings have been configured to bypass the proxy on local addresses, is this the correct way of doing it? They seem to be contacting the server, as they can see which updates they need, but then fail on downloading by sitting at 0% And the they report to the server, and come up in the computers section of WSUS

Hi all, I've been searching hi and low for a olution to this issue but havent found anything solid as of yet. Basically my issue is that my Windows 10 clients will not download any updates from our new WSUS server. They can find the updates on the server but when actually starting the download they sit at 0% and will not proceeed from there. This is causing the machines to lock up on the "Getting Windows Ready" screen ob boot, and takes about 10 minutes for it to time out and actually load into Windows. So far I have tried adding the MIMe type for .esd "application/octet-stream", but that has not worked. I have tried changing the delivery optimization to Bypass, but that has made no difference. I have even tried the built in trouble shooter for Windows Update, but that reports that there are no issues. Has anyone had this before and if so, how on earth did you fix it? I'd rather not have to download all the updates manually and walk around to 100+ computers to install them. Open to any suggestions Thanks, Drayton95

Hello, I am using the Ubiquiti AC Pro's throughout a Primary School currently, and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. The units are very powerful and seem to just work. The only thing I've noticed about them is you must manually keep the controller up to date, to keep the AP's up to date, but I believe this may possibly be changing so the Controller checks for firmware updates from Ubiquiti. The switches are pretty good too, supporting aggregated links to the server and between switches has massively improved their performance over the Netgear 'dumb' switches they were using before. I can't really give you any negative feedback about them, because I have none -drayton95

So I've tried this script. When I put it in a GPO as startup powershell script it does not seem to run, and I have a gut feeling it is because of the execution policy. Is there a way to bypass this execution policy or auto accept it in the script?

Haven't tested on Windows 10 myself but try the one here User Configuration - Policies - Administrative Templates - Start Menu and Taskbar - Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar (Set it to Enabled) Then gpupdate on workstation, and it should be gone.

Are the drivers made for Windows 10 or an earlier version?

I've been trying to deploy a Ricoh C5503 and a Brother HL-4150CDN, but neither seem to deploy on there own. I have to manually install the drivers on each computer before they come up. Another article I've read mentions the update tightens security immensely, requiring all drivers to be package aware and also be made for Windows 10 exclusively. So far I have not found these types of drivers for my printers. I have tried approving my print server in a GPO as a Point and Print server, but still no luck for me.

Hello EduGeeks, I am wondering if there is a way I can remove all the provisioned apps like 3D Builder, and Groove Music etc from my Windows 10 Education builds, without having to redeploy every PC at this school. Is it possible to create a script that can remove these without having to ask for admin privileges? This would decrease login time by a good 30 seconds for new users. Also, would this be possible to run a separate script from Group Policy to remove apps on profiles that already exist on the local machines? Regards, Jake

Following. I've been searching for a solution for this for over a month now, I've read that uninstalling an update can do it, but I'm running the anniversary edition as a fresh install, and can't uninstall it. :/
