  1. Hi I'm having a few issues with a new install of EC 5.2 updating from BTLSL. As per usual BTLSL are of no help, they just tell me they will uninstall it and reinstall it for a billed visit. I am using the sophos user they've always had following the EC 4.2 notes on the sophos.lancsngfl.ac.uk The errors I get are as follows 80040404 Threat Detection data update failed 80040401 Software update failed Does anyone have any advice at all? Thanks
  2. All they need to do is setup the required DNS entries for 365 to work, if I was in your shoes, I'd ask them for the changes they require and pass them onto your DNS host and request they make the changes... OCL/BTLSL are dangerous!
  3. +1 for Ubiquiti, especially if you use the Pro AP's it's all I use now, always used to use Ruckus previously but the cost saving made it a no brainer for our situation
  4. Hi I'm just looking at setting up a new switch and I'm having a slight issue, after the initial setup on the console and plugging in a cable to a port on the default lan I cannot connect to it. If I connect a cable to the management port on the switch it picks up an IP from DHCP and I can access the web front end. If I connect via terminal remotely or locally and set the Management port on a static IP it cannot be pinged or contacted. Now I've nbot setup one of these before and haven't used a switch with a dedicated out-of-band management port, am I missing something obvious. I have read that you cant have a management VLAN if you use the OOBM port. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  5. Hi bit of a bizarre problem I've been asked to look at. A primary school have as their primary print device a Sharp MX4112N, all working fine through Windows server 2012 and Win 7 Clients. They've recently had a load of MacBooks and Mac Mini server installed by a 3rd party company (MCC) the issue is in order to print to the photocopier they have to enter a pin code in in order to print, now, from looking I can't seem to find in the driver for Mac on the sharp website any place to have this code entered or a prompt to enter. Obviously the removal of the pin requirement on the Photovcopier would sort the issue out, but unlike Ricoh and Konica Minolta copiers you can have pin code on or off, you can't use pin code only for copying and not print functions (if that makes sense). I suppose I'm asking has anyone managed to print from a mac device to a pin protected sharp copier Answers on a postcard please!
  6. Soory, I've had a slight issue my mb power supply decided to give up, awaiting new one so I can image the disc
  7. Not sure if it helps but I have 10.4 discs from my Apple iBook, circa 2006, edit a few plists and it should install for you. I'll dig them out when I get home tonight and see what the size is.
  8. I put 2 x Cat 6 into all rooms bar my office (x8) and then had a small 6u cab in the Utility Room. An old 3com 2829 switch, NAS and all works well. Plus I have the SKy/Virig lines run in to the Cab so when I switch its easy (I also have all sat cales running in to it) If you are rewiring and running cables go the whole hog! All my cable was free from my usual cabling contractor. All ends of Reels that they don't really use, worth an ask?
  9. @RichB That's tidier then at present!!!
  10. Cheers, I have all coloured cables ready and then the cable management bars, just a bit indecisive, I was going to do it on Thursday, but the exam officer is in so best not
  11. Hi just after a bit of advice, looking to tidy up a 42U cab that houses 11 Patch Panels, 4 Hp 1910 switches (2 x 24 port PoE and 2 x 48 port) and the Cisco 2500 Wifi Controller. Its a mess and the previous support contractor (Local Authority) just bunged all the cables in, its a mess so needs sorting. The issue is I'm in a dilemma on how to lay it out. any advice or pics of cabs done well and laid out so you can see whats in there. I have my 25m reel of velcro ready to tidy the cables plus several 1u and 2u cable tidy bars! Cheers
  12. Hi I'm all of a sudden unable to build any iOS device as it pops up with "download activation record failed" followed by "bad URL" the full error is 01/07/2014 14:37:23.303 Apple Configurator[476]: ERROR - 4426440ms Presenting Error: Error Domain=com.apple.configurator.operation.error Code=-1 "Download Activation Record failed" UserInfo=0x60000167c180 {NSLocalizedDescription=Download Activation Record failed, NSUnderlyingError=0x608000a47fb0 "bad URL"} (/SourceCache/AppleConfigurationUtility/AppleConfigurationUtility-424/Application/Controllers/ACUApplicationDelegate.m:256) When I take the Macbook and said ipads off site all works fine, able to download activation record and builds/images as expected, Soon as you get back in school it fails. The only thing that has changed recently is the county web filter (I'm in Lancashire, school has OCL/BT Lancs as their ISP), I can access the app store after allowing *.apple.com, I suppose the question I've got to is does anyone know what the URL's need to be allowed in order to build an iOS device? Thanks
  13. I'd be interested in this as well, any Lancs schools I've come across normally either runs as yours did or runs on the supplied ranges, but these have been small enough to manage on one flat network. Would be interesting to see how others on a scale that needs it have done it?
  14. Logged a call on Monday Morning about a school having no Anti Virus (following a server install by OCL in June 2013), just had my first contact back from them.... is that an improvement at all on response times?
  15. Fair enough, whens the BSF contract due up or are you one of the last ones in?
  16. When did the website swap over???!! I take it OCL are now officially BTLSL? Who thinks things will improve?
  17. Cheers guys, I've logged a call with them to see why I can't access it
  18. HI could someone check that the lancsngfl Sophos website is working at all? http://sophos.lancsngfl.ac.uk/ I'm having some issues getting to it to download an installer Thanks
  19. Out of interest would hosting it yourself not be an option?
  20. why not redirect the proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk to the new Lightspeed stuff....
  21. If you stick that second card to active and connect it to one of the cisco admin ports, set up a new IP range in dhcp (assuming you want to use dhcp!) and then bind the scopes to the correct card. Theres not much more you'll need to do bar patching some switches into the admin range, if you just want to extend the domain onto what was the admin range, however it might be worth planning it a bit more. As suggested, assigning the new ranges to specific areas or rooms, if you want it on a per user basis for staff like you say, on your wifi I'd have another SSID that jumps onto the admin range to help separate traffic, it's in this more complex setup where the VLAN aspect will kick in, there are good guides on here regarding VLANS.
  22. Chris, I assume we request it to OCL and they pass this on to LS? or can we go direct to LS?
  23. having a load of issues with this in the school i look after, how do you get in to change these groups/classifications? I guess I'm dependent upon OCL actually supplying me with the info... Oh well not long left till April and a move to a new connection. You'd have thought they'd have left it until after April, why school that are leaving OCL have to do all this messing around for 2 weeks is crazy!
  24. spotted today as well that it you've used their admin or curric standalone installers from the county site (sophos.lancsngfl.ac.uk) it has the proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk proxy set so they'll stop working with the change to lightspeed, I wonder if they've thought of that!
  25. On a plus side I can now use Meraki Manager to manage the PC's and Servers now they don't use a proxy setting
