  1. So I've removed my control panel policy completely and it works. Now I need to go locking it down again.
  2. I managed to upgrade one of my machines but the other showed a similar error message.
  3. We just use first then second name. For both students and staff. It's probably not the best tho.
  4. I've never noticed it until just there.
  5. How would I go about configuring one of those?
  6. I think I have figured out why it is not working. I was applying the theme force policy to the 'Windows 7' computers OU I had created. But I need to force the theme in the Students/Staff OU. How can I limit which computers a policy will apply on?
  7. In the past I have used 1&1 for shared hosting.
  8. Yes. You did help me with Desktop redirection. We are now in the progress of moving to a domain.
  9. I created test users in the Win7 OU with the GPOs in and in my Teachers OU and have the same result. I'm thinking the GPOs are not applying and it's possibly something to do with the machine. Is there any way I could track if that particular GPO is actually applying on the machine?
  10. It's saying that the Rating is 3.0 if that helps
  11. I am enforcing the aero theme in Group Policy and it only applies to users on the Win7 computers. The only reason I think the admin's work is they are in a separate OU and are using roaming profiles and not local profiles.
  12. I have allowed Microsoft.Personalization. However, I still have the old theme. The profiles we are using for Students and Staff are local if that helps.
  13. Recently imaged a test laptop to Windows 7 Enterprise and joined it to the domain. When I use a student or staff account and login with it I get the grey classic theme. However, my admins accounts get the areo theme just fine. Wondering if it's anything to do with not having access to the Control Panel enabled.
  14. The path has got the \\ at the start and the path is valid. I've blocked Event Viewer for students and teachers and have forgotten how to disable it so I can't find the problem with that. Which settings tab are you talking about?
  15. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I have created my Folder Redirection policies but they don't seem to be working. The home directory is set in AD with H:/ but that doesn't show. Not sure if this might be to do with permissions because we run the home drives on an old router that has a USB Hard Drive plugged in with the home drives. Then I set my folder redirection to go to the home folder but when I go into its properties it shows the local directory which the user does not have access to.
  16. I'm a newbie to Windows Server. I seem to be having issues where users don't have permissions to any of the shares. I'm not sure why it's not working. Here's an example of the error I'm getting. These are the permissions set on the home folder share. Also, when I log into my VMs the roaming profiles don't work and show a message saying that it is using temp profiles. If you need screenshots of anything else just ask.
  17. I've managed to connect it to the domain by adding the DNS role on the Domain controller and setting the DNS server to the DC. Finally!
  18. I know I might sound stupid. But do I need the DNS Server installed on my Domain Controller?
  19. I've just changed the network settings to Bridged and nothing else. Still having issues.
  20. I can ping it by the domain controllers IP and host name (mcclean-dc).
  21. Yep. It displays another error. When I ping it using it, it does not know it. However I can ping mcclean-dc.
  22. I've downloaded the Creators Update and installed a VM for it in VirtualBox. I'm trying to connect it to my domain but I get this error. I think it's something wrong with the Network settings so here they are if you need them. I'm using all of them and I still can't connect. The VM has a dynamic IP and the server is static on 192.168.0.110. Not sure what I need to do to my VM to make it work.
  23. I've setup roaming profiles for everyone. For the laptops, how do I set them up so they can automatically use Offline Files for the document, picture etc libraries.
  24. I've just setup myself a roaming profile user with redirected folders. I will see how I go.
  25. Hey, I've just moved over from a workgroup to a domain and I'm not sure which profiles to use. Roaming or Mandatory Profiles? I've tested the roaming profiles with folder redirection and I managed a 12-second log out (that's on my DC). What does everyone else use?
