  1. luckily the tube announcer was telling people to get off at Prince Regent for BETT else I would have got off at Custom House.

    Bag drop?

queue was crazy, I just kept my small rucksack. it was easier.
  3. Connect at BETT was a mixed bag. I had four meetings. First off, they are one to one. I had myself and my boss, the grumpy lady told us off for taking a chair from a neighbouring table that wasnt in use - we ignored her and carried on. Second meeting, once those 15 mins are off, the staff get quite shirty, even though there was noone on the table after us (nor the one I nicked a chair off). We decamped and carried on chatting at the side, on a set of tables with noone on them - we got moved on (there was no meeting in progress). I would estimate 10% of the tables in use between 11/12 and 15/16 (I had 4 meetings in total). My boss had arranged a meeting with someone, he phoned them and we met in costa instead as we needed a bit more time for that one - we guessed that the grumpy connect staff would move us on. I didnt visit AMNE as I had little time im afraid (sorry! only down for one day as I needed to plan before the train strikes were off) but managed to visit all the other stands I wanted. All the tech I needed to look at had demos, so overall it was worth it for me. ASUS was a waste of time, they had a stand with a slushy machine, I wanted to see a specific ASUS model to compare with surface pro - they directed me to three resellers, one didnt know what I meant (their ASUS guy was out on a meeting), one was too busy so we gave up on the third and will stick with surface pro. If you are going to pay for a stand, why arrive with no tech? WIFI was sketchy as was data connection. To be expected at such a trade conference of course but still surprising given that it IS a tech conference. Even the Microsoft stand was having issues demonstrating something we wanted to look at. Quite funny really. F1 sim was fun. Some schools took their classes to BETT, I thought that was a bit cruel. It meant that the esports section was swarmed though, not that I needed it. Avanti trains were on time and quick. No tube issues.# edit: one more I forgot. If you printed a badge at BETT then the entry barcode and your details QR code are on the same side. If you printed on yourself then they are on separate sides. Not much of a gripe but you need to flip backwards and forwards when swapping hall sides etc. On that note, some were entry left, some were entry right. If you got it wrong then staff got annoyed at you. Why not just keep it to "if you want to in or out then keep left"
  4. hah, having windows 10 installed, those machines already have the "legacy" app so that will work. I didnt think to use the inbuild photos app.
  5. Our students need basic video editing and the ability to extract audio from video etc. My kids use clipchamp at home on their PCs. For school I made a deployment in intune since it is in the store. All good, the basic app downloads and all is well. Fast forward to logging in and it seems to only accept "personal" microsoft accounts, our school 365 wont work. There seems to be zero documentation on getting logged in using education 365 accounts. I can log in using my personal 365 account (and oddly enough using google logon with the school username and password since I federated those at some point for youtube whitelisting some time ago - we dont use google stuff though) Ideas?

    BETT 2023

I requested a few meetings on the wednesday, these have come through on the wednesday. The times are close together so either fluke or the system has a scheduler that looks at other meetings. Oh and my badge has come through.
  7. searching by ID worked for me too. sigh, no idea why I didnt try this. Out to the PCs it goes.
  8. I am trying to deploy Microsoft Photos Legacy. It exists in the public store, I know it does because I have it at home: https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/microsoft-photos-legacy/9NV2L4XVMCXM?hl=en-us&gl=us Its a free app but doesnt appear in either the business store search (yes, I know this is going the way of the dodo soon), but it also doesnt appear in the Intune "new" app search. Im left with looking at sideloading via https://store.rg-adguard.net/ which I am not keen on (especially with 3 dependent appx's, that will be a mess of a hierarchy install that you cannot do in intune). Is there some trick I have missed to enable certain apps to appear in the store?
  9. windows 10 home and lack of secpol is a barrier to entry. I would not recommend carrying the can for this. Convert to chromeOS flex or look at paying for kiosk licensing for those 10 machines - you wont need most of 365 as you are a google school - with a view to AAD/Intune policies.
  10. but do you have mugs and pens? I cracked my softcat mug so need a new one for my usb pen drives.
  11. I bought a cheap mac mini that had a broken drive. After changing the drive I needed to get an OS onto the mac - it was our only mac. I used a utility called transmac to make a bootable USB in windows, then extracted a DMG onto it. Only after all this faffing did I realise I could have COMMAND+R and restore from internet (I didnt have much mac knowledge at the time).
  12. I cannot find any documentation on a payload for setting ipad default camera format to JPG. In non shared mode ipads you can change the setting in camera. Shared ipads dont have this option. Ive searched intune documentation but cannot find it. Does anyone have any payload information? How do you go about it?
  13. Thats ok. Ontime registration (free) has closed, but LATE registration (free) is now ok till the 17th. Be still your beating heart! https://bettuk23-registration.personatech.com/

    BETT 2023

This has confused me even more. Ive filled in a few connect@bett as they were in the list. But there are people I will chat to that ARENT in the connect@bett (such as stone computers). The two types of tickets buyer and non buyer makes NO SENSE. I have no intention of signing on the dotted line at BETT, that simply isnt going to happen, so whilst I am going to BETT with the intention of seeking out people for a specific project, im certainly not going to purchase on the day.
  15. I run and administer isams. For me? I am actively canvassing our SLT to migrate away from isams. The principle reason is support as their support is very bad. We have had a number of issues in the last year, ticket response time has ranged from two weeks to four months for completion. Some of the issues I fixed myself and gave them the answer to implement (it was that bad). If you want them to host then there is a surcharge (obviously) but if you want to host yourself then there is also a surcharge, so make sure you get a bottom line price, take care with midcontract price increases and factor these in your budget. Very modular but it can get expensive quite quickly, as others have said reporting is expensive. If you pester them heavily then you can get a read only access to the SQL server, this means you can craft your own reports if you have a reporting server of some kind. The API is quite lightweight, you can only access certain data with it, so if you need someone like WONDE to pull past teachers or previous pupils for a billing program then you cannot as the API wont do this (there are other examples of what the API cannot do). Registration can be fun, ensure teachers click manual save as the autosave does not always do so - even when it says it has (I have observed, video recorded and sent to support, there was never a resolution). Some modules dont fully link up with other modules, sanatorium manager is a good example, requiring multiple changes if data changes. For a long time you couldnt have complex parental contact structure (for example a guardian looking after multiple students, but those students had separate parents) - you needed to make the pupils siblings if you wanted communication or club reports etc, this made census amusing. Exporting medical details for pupils would not work for months following an export update - we had to endure an inspection whereby we manually copied and pasted data to an excel spreadsheet before I ended up grabbing the data manually via SQL. Support took 4 months to eventually fix this. We don't use the pupil portal any longer and have moved to a different solution for pupil portal and communications, we found it was weak and not very useful - this could have changed in the intervening years. We stopped using the academic reports as we couldn't link the academic reports to other areas of isams (LS and exams) without costly bespoke reporting charges. We use a different solution for academic reporting. Clubs and activities didnt work properly, we use a different solution. I would recommend you go to a school who uses isams and see if they can do what you want them to, dont take my negativity as gospel, we have just had a bad ride with them.
  16. yep, and if you dont select any you get hounded. If you DO select some (but not all) then you still get hounded to keep selecting. Oh and it gets better, you also get told to select everyone from the company, not just the one that is relevent. I dont want to talk to the asian sales director for ASUS as they wont be able to help me so why should I request a meeting with them? Stupid system.

    BETT 2023

I completed a few connect@bett, now I get hounded to complete MORE connect@bett if it wasnt for me wanting tickets etc I would send the lot to the bin. I already have a rule setup but it is ridiculous how much spam BETT generates now.
  18. We looked at this from the coalface. Ask the teachers what they need, then look at if they need it. We used to have promethean with activinspire. Old v2 and 300 boards. Less than 10% of teachers used ActivInspire with bespoke ActiveInspire functionality, most just used it for overlays, scribbles and as a "pen for a mouse" functionality. So I put openboard on the system and pointed teachers to MIRO education. This meant I could look at simply touch screens (no smart functionality) for the vast majority of teachers who were happy with openboard. For those who wanted smarter functionality BenQ won out. They were substantially (over a third) cheaper than promethean or smart for not just equivalent but slightly larger panel.
  19. yeah, I wasnt willing to leave it so late for work planning. With the train strikes it was either the Wednesday or not bother for us.
  20. We are heading down from cumbria tuesday evening, coming back wednesday evening. There were plenty of seats on the trains. I could find absolutely nothing on the Friday. I was given the option of driving if I wanted, I havent driven through london since before 2010 and I dont intend starting again any time soon....
  21. syncing solved. I added a configuration profile that stopped icloud sync (noone used it, noone even logged into icloud). The storage was sorted. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/enrollment/device-enrollment-shared-ipad "A Shared iPad consists of a pre-defined number of user partitions. User partitions ensure that each user’s apps, data, and preferences are stored separately on the iPad. If you allow it, these partitions can be backed up to iCloud for seamless transition across other shared iPads in your organization." Seems that the free space is carved up whether you use it or not. This carved up partition is then carved up again for apps, photos, documents etc. It also seemed to allocation a block for icloud sync too - hence why a user was full. I cannot seem to find anywhere on the ipad or intune to say how much space each user is taking up. Since the most we ever have is three profiles I have dropped the enrollment profile to 4. That should sort it.
  22. If you have PC maxing out updates then either look at caching (if you have the necessary licensing) or set a policy to only allow PCs P2P updates and have a few "honeypot" PCs that download updates during downtime.
  23. We use Firefly with their tasks and markbooks. We also use schoolpost for parent comms and their parent app.
  24. We are also CFC (cyber private enterprise)
  25. check your firewall logs, are the requests going out or hanging on the way? pick a machine and check the states of outgoing traffic. Is your IDS taking an unhealthy interest in some of the traffic? Check your IDS logs to see if it is blocking or excessively checking certain destinations. DNS is easy to check, just set one machine to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and let that machine request direct DNS through the firewall
