[sims] SIMS performance issues since Easter hols?
mw184 replied to PotNoodleTech's topic in MIS Systems
No performance related issues here. Except in a few instances where suddenly SIMS would refuse to connect to the database after the update had been received on the server. Had to change the connect.ini file and manually install the update on the machines in question but apart from that nothing has been reported to me about performance issues. -
I can +1 BenQ as well here. We have several and they have all worked flawlessly

So update on this. Connecting via ip made no difference, the problem is still occurring. I also attempted to rule out the potential of a driver issue by downloading the driver and installing it manually and the same thing happened when printing. Also, thanks for the pdf idea, would never have thought of that. I can confirm that this issue take place when printing pictures using the old picture printing software (print through right click) and that this is happening on sharp printers here.

I am leaning towards a windows update now. We deploy ours over s share from a server so I have changed one to direct connect via ip so will see if that makes any difference.

Hi, when did you start having this issue? I am currently looking into the exact same issue for two staff members here myself and trying to find the cause etc.

I believe you can get Intune for education for free or a discounted price. Not 100% sure how it works as we went to the full Intune when we realised we needed more as well. Not sure which way we went to get it though as my boss set all of the licencing up etc. Might be worth a look at Intune for Education though

I started with these to build a base knowledge. Really good modules I found and have lots of good info. Hope these help! Manage devices by using Microsoft Intune - Learn | Microsoft Docs Manage applications by using Microsoft Intune - Learn | Microsoft Docs There might be more on the Learn site as well, lots on azure etc

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
mw184 replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
We have only had one staff member test positive, but they were at home isolating anyway and was in the last few days of isolation that they tested positive. Therefor no year groups needed closing as they had not been in the building. No kids have tested positive (yet). I think it's fair to say for us that it is a case of when, not if. The local area around the school is a hotspot in my town at the moment. -

As a bit of extra info, the class notebook option does not even exist on this team. See image below: Does anyone know if this can be added now seen as this wasn't added automatically before? Thanks
-
The team is created as a class already and they have been doing things such as assignments. However it never made the team a class notebook. I have managed to make them one using the class notebook creator, but using the OneNote option in teams when adding a tab, it says class notebooks are not supported. So I have a class notebook that I can add the kids to and teachers, but I cannot add it as a tab to the team itself. This wouldn't be an issue if SST weren't demanding that it is on the team tabs. As far as I can tell, this is not possible to add at the moment though....

Hi all, Hoping someone can help me out here. We have created all of our classes as class teams in Microsoft Teams. All of them are working great and we are loving the system. However, one of the classes is missing the "Class Notebook" option and I cannot find a way to either add it back or create a new one. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

We are doing teams meetings in which parents enter their names and wait in the lobby for their turn, and the teacher brings them into the meeting for their slot, asks some data protection questions (childs name and dob). Teacher then removes the parent from the teams meeting before admitting the next parent in for their chat.

Just had a quick google as we have looked at something like this in the past but ended up not needing it. These two might help you: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/idisplay/id363500805 https://www.duetdisplay.com/ I haven't tested them myself but from reading I think they might be able to help. -
Hi everyone, posted on a few topics in the past but never introduced myself, so here I am! I'm Matt, an IT Technician in a Primary School in North Lincolnshire. I provide support to my main school and a second school in the LA. Had an account for a while now and have found so much useful information on here so decided to make myself known

Have you tried using any data recovery tools? I would advise not booting from the drive and hooking it up as an extra drive to a PC or laptop you have and then running some software to try and recover the data. I haven't tried them on a drive, but have had success recovering data off of formatted SD cards and USB drives in the past. The pieces of software I have tried are Recuva and EaseUS Data Recovery. Otherwise the only other option I could think of would be to contact data recovery specialists and see if they can help. Hope you manage to get the data back!

Turns out it was just a setting that had been changed on the server in GPO and i didn't know. Reverting it back should hopefully bring it all back. Will find out when i get there this afternoon. Redirecting desktops does sound like it could be our solution in the future though. Thanks for the tips!

Hi all, I have just updated Windows 10 to the above KB for windows (KB4505064) and upon logging back on I have lost my desktop. The desktop icons for programs are still there but all of the files on the desktop etc are gone. I have looked in c:\users\%username% and the desktop folder/area is gone. I have tried 2 different pieces of data recovery software and had no luck in finding the files. I am currently running an SFC /SCANNOW and am currently looking to try a system restore. If anyone has any ideas on how to find the documents again it would be much appreciated!
