1. Well it does look like the BB filter is the culprit. MITM SSL is breaking things. The solution, disable MITM SSL for the Chromebooks and rely on enforced Google Safe Search and block HTTPS for non trusted sites.
2. Couple of good deals for the coffee drinkers EN521.R_RD | Nespresso by De'Longhi coffee machine | ao.com https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00REE4HUY/?tag=ho01f-21
3. Just an update. Google support are continuing to look into this. They have requested a number of Chromebook logs so waiting to see what they come up with. In the meantime it crossed my mind today that our internet provider requires us to have a SSL cert installed on devices for filtering google searches etc. I disabled this cert on a test OU and then when i logged onto a Chromebook as a user in this OU everything synced as expected. Re-enable the cert, back to the delay. You get the idea.
4. Well have tried to carry out some more testing this morning. I have unpacked 3 brand new units and all are fully up to date. Unit 1 is a managed device with a GAFE user logging on. Time to apps & extensions being available +3 minutes Unit 2 is a non-managed device with a GAFE user logging on. Time to apps & extensions being available +3 minutes Unit 3 is a non-managed device with a standard @google.com user logging on. Time to apps & extensions being available 30 seconds! So it seems that the issue is at the user level rather than the device level. Somehow need to log what's going on in those 1st 3 minutes!
5. Glad it's not just me then. Have a case open with Google support, but after sending them logs from a Chromebook they can't see any issues. At a bit of a loss at the moment.
6. First place to look is Googles EoL Page - https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en to make sure the Chromebooks you are getting still have plenty of support left. Asus C202s have been designed for schools. We chose these over Dells Chromebook 11 which are also very good. The HPs 11/14 G4 I looked at were nice but build for a consumer so I couldn't see them lasting long in a school setting.
7. Going to create a new OU with no forced installs and see what happens for a test user.
8. Most are just google ones, will take a look at the others.
9. One for the Chromebook experts (@CHR1S) I have been rolling out class sets of Chromebooks and everything is going well apart from one issue. The issue is that once the user has logged onto the Chromebook it takes approximately 2 minutes for App icons, pinned icons etc. to appear. As the devices are shared I have User Caching turned off within the admin panel. If I turn this on, the first time a user logs on it takes 2 minutes for everything to sync and then on subsequent logins icons appear in an instant. If this user then logs onto another device, they again have to wait 2 minutes etc. I have tried a device on an unfiltered connection, same issue so I know the filter isn't the cause. Does anyone else experience these delays? Thanks in advance.
10. What happens when you go to - Adobe - Flash Player
11. Haven't had issues here on Chromebooks or Chrome browser on Win7. Has the teacher given permission to the pupils access to cast via the app? Either individually or via their class?
12. If you are using GAM then you can use the following to generate a csv of all the classrooms a user is a student of. gam print courses student user@domain c:\classlist.csv
13. Well after some delivery delays I now have 3 replacement E5570s. They haven't even mentioned anything regarding the collection of the old ones...
14. Make sure the new ASUS C202 is on your shortlist of devices - https://www.asus.com/us/Commercial-Notebooks/ASUS-Chromebook-C202SA/
15. Been 7 days since the original call was logged, just waiting now for delivery, they state 10-15 working days once it has been ordered.
16. Well can't complain, first of the replacement machines is on the way... 17. Who knows, but in theory if it's under warranty its a repair or replacement. Have a batch that run out shortly and another 48 under warranty till August 2018. Slightly off topic, have to say of all the Latitudes I have supported over the years the E5520/30 have been the worst for build quality, more in line with an Inspirons.
18. Mines a 5530 and is being replaced. Dell could repair if the lid wasn't damaged though.
19. Are the replacement hinges you have had revised in anyway to reduce the issue?
20. Well they have submitted a request for a system replacement, just need to wait for approval. Think it's time to check all our E5530s before their warranties run out next month!
21. How long you waited so far?
22. Had this fault surface today on an in warranty E5530. Dell support are now saying "the back cover is no longer available" support call has been escalated and they will "keep me posted"
23. See you are in MK. It the cable old MKC installed fibre by any chance? Had a similar issue when my school amalgamated with another due to the OM1 fibre run being too long to support gigabit speeds.
24. That doesn't mean anything. HP TouchPad / WebOS anyone?
