Hi, Has anyone set up a way of automatically checking that a shared iPad or Macbook has been returned to its cart? There are 3 ways I think it could work 1. An iBeacon inside the cart and then configure a smart group in JAMF Pro. E.g. Cart A iPad AND iBeacon Cart A not in range. Then it could send an email if a device falls into that group. Is there a way of scheduling when that group becomes active, or when those emails get sent? We would only want it to do this check at, say, 4PM? 2. Using our CISCO wireless controller Is there a way of doing something similar using device location tracking on WIFI? 1 and 2 wouldn't work well on MacBooks because they may be shut down. 3. With RFID tags on the devices Perhaps there could be an iPad permanently fixed to the top of the trolley and then some way of scanning using RFID tags. There would need to be some sort of RFID sensor in the trolley. Is there an app for that?

It seems to have the potential to be a true cross platform browser. Except on the iPad it gives you mobile versions of MS websites, even when it's set to give desktop versions. Subsequently, Safari offers a way-better experience.

Note, however, that once a staff member has created a meeting link, it is then reusable by anyone. Currently there is no way to stop authenticated users from starting a meeting. If you wanted to stop students from using meeting links created by staff, you'd have to remove their Teams licence; then they would be forced into the lobby. But that, of course, means removing access to all the other features of Teams. You might be better to turn off students' abilities to start or schedule calls. Then have staff use 'Meet Now' feature within a channel. If they want to restrict it so that only specific students can join a meeting, they could create a private channel and then remove them from that channel when you're done.

I tried Krisp out. It is pretty amazing. But, when I had it turned on in a Teams call, other users complained that they got weird echo and noises on the call so I ended up turning it off.

Is the real issue the zoombombing then? Is that down to user error - ie. they're not setting passwords? This link seems to suggest it's a down to user training (but, agreed it should be set to fail-safe). I have concerns about Teams too: The default option for joining a meeting is that everyone can bypass the lobby. It is possible to change this default with a policy but, like zoom, it's not set to the safest option by default. The best level of security is 'People in this Organisation' can bypass the lobby. There is no way of forcing all users to go via the lobby. This means that if a teacher sends a group of students a link, they can have their own meet ups before and after. Is there a way of killing a link after it's been used? Zoom gives the meeting organiser a lot of control, and being able to put students in break-out rooms is amazing. I tried using the whiteboard in Teams and it was hopeless - it was slow and wouldn't work on iOS devices. Are we all going with Zoom or Team because it's what people know, or because it's the best - safety-wise and pedagogically? I had a quick look at Digital Samba, for example. Expensive but has powerful e-learning features - works in any browser without any apps. Are there other tools out there that are better for classrooms?

Not Logo but I find scratch does a good job. You can enable pen tools in extensions. Depends on what they are trying to achieve, of course.

I can’t say that I love firefly but it is stable and reliable for students. Have you contacted their support? They are very good at responding to issues. We had an issue which they tracked down to a huge PDF being embedded on our landing page.

OR... Would Apple Configurator 2 do it? I don't want to use it to set everything up, just want it to connect it to the wifi and get it to JAMF. Could we plug multiple iPads through a USB hub (our charging cart has that, I believe) and set them up in batches?

Hi, Need to wipe and re-setup lots of iPads quickly. We have JAMF MDM and devices are already enrolled. JAMF will take care of the wifi setup and push down all the apps and settings. BUT.... How do you initially connect to the MDM? On a clean iPad we are currently clicking through initial setup questions and manually connecting to the wifi network. After that, the MDM takes over, and will push through the correct wifi network and apps. I hear that iPads are hard-coded to connect to a specific wifi network so they can find the MDM server when they are in the setup phase? Is that true? Is it connecting to Apple's DEP service, the local MDM or both? Could proximity setup be used to find wifi details from a nearby iPad via bluetooth? It doesn't need to be zero-touch, but any tips to reduce the number of clicks would be appreciated!

I know I'm asking for a lot. There are products that are good at one, or other, but few can do both. Wishlist: * Onsite firewall with filtering (standard appliance) * For BYOD studnets - cloud filtering when offsite, controlled by parents * Controllable at classroom-level by teachers * Multiplatform: Mac, iOS, Windows * MDM-style controls for iOS (e.g can prevent apps being launched, perhaps offer basic MDM functions). Found one product that ticks the boxes (FamilyZone). But, it's expensive. Are there others I've missed?

Hi, Using Microsoft OneDrive app on iOS, I can see all my files for the Sharepoint sites. In Apple Files App, I can only see one or two. Another user (who has the same membership) can see a different set of files. Any ideas? Thanks, Ian.

Just restarting the app fixes it. However, it happens on at least one computer at random per lesson. If the students are filling in an online form that doesn't save as they go, then they lose all their work.

Hi, We have an intermittent issue with MacBook Air (Sierra) keyboards that stop working. In one app (usually Chrome or Safari), they keyboard will stop responding, but the application works fine. If you switch to another application, the keyboard is functioning however in the first application it will only work after the app has been restarted. Anyone had this issue? Thanks,

They send over several members of their team to run training and they also sponsor the evening events. Thanks Steve. Will SSO work on Macs? If the macs were domain joined would the SSO work in Chrome/Safari and Office Desktop itself? Even if we did have SSO, surely they still need to enter their email? I thought the SSO only kicked in after users are directed to their site ADFS page? I was hoping that the primary address would remain as default and the secondary address could be just used for logging in?

Hi, We use Office 365 with Azure AD. Students logon using their email address. We long usernames and passwords, making logon time consuming for young students. How easy is it to: 1) Add a domain alias, so everything else (email addresses etc...) remains the same, but users can log on using a shorter address if desired. Ideally both long and short would work simultaneously and both emails would work. 2) Add an alternative user ID for users. So they could log in with [email protected], or alternatively could logon using [email protected] Many thanks,

What is the purpose of the planner? Do you want the planner to automatically take care of everything for the student e.g populate it with their homework, events etc... Effectively, organise the student. Or, do you want to teach the student how to organise themselves? A skill that will help them in life. If it's the former, then yes, you'll need a solution. If it's the latter, then perhaps you should just teach the students how to use their calendar feature properly. e.g The students are expected to write their homework into their diary, just like they would have done with a paper diary. If you set up groups correctly and teach staff how to send calendar invites (good luck with that!), they could send groups of students invites about events they need to attend. What's lacking from such a system is the teacher monitoring. Usually, a tutor would check and sign a diary every week to make sure they're filling it in (invariably they don't though!). So, perhaps, students need to publish their diaries and post a link so a shared doc or something so the teachers can easily check.

Hi, You're right in your aim. What you want to have is one aspect called 'Maths Exam Grade' results tied to different Result Sets - Year 8 Spring, Year 8 Summer etc... There are 3 (all unpleasant) ways of achieving this. 1. Use the SIMS Supplied Assessment Mapping Tool Tools --> Performance --> Assessment --> Assessment Mapping Tool. This will copy grades from any aspect and put them into a Capita Supplied Aspect. It seems quite good but, unfortunately, it will only let you paste the results into a Aspects/Grade Sets/Result Sets which have been supplied by Capita. I don't think that Capita Supply any 'exam' aspects for KS3 subjects - so it would mean putting grades into 'Teacher Assessment' level Tracking Progress Aspects. And you are locked into their Grade Sets so might be too inflexible in future - eg. if you want to create your own levelling system. 2. Use the Copy Results Tool. Tools --> Performance --> Assessment --> System Utilities --> Results This will let you copy results from one aspect to another. It only works if the source aspects are not assigned to a result set. So these are the steps you must make: 1. Detach a Result Set from a selection of results 2. Copy Results from the old aspect to the new aspect 3. Attach a result set to a selection of results. You've got to be a bit careful about the sequence you do these things in, but I think this is your best bet. You could go into your old Year 7 Summer Aspect, and copy all the results into your new unified aspect. Those results should be the only results in that aspect without a result set, so then you can attach the 'Year 7 Summer' result set before moving onto the next set. Note: On the wizard you can specify multiple criteria to 'find' the results you wish to attach a result set to e.g. Student Name, Result Date etc... You can leave these criteria blank (delete the from: and to: date) and it'll ignore the condition. 3. You could just do it in a marksheet. Put both old and new aspects into a marksheet then copy and paste from one to another. You'll need to be careful to change the group membership date and the result date to preserve data. Also, all the aspects will be tagged with your name not the person who inputted them originally. All the ways are mundane. So create a chart to keep yourself on track, lock the door so no one disturbs you and have big jug of coffee at the ready!

That's useful information. Thank you. I still don't quite understand how it actually works. They sign into clever and that signs them into Google? How does it do that? Did you have to go into Google and set up clever as the identity provider? So when any one attempts to log into Google, it redirects them to clever for the authentication?

As Liam said ADFS is best if the service supports it. Unfortunately not much educational software does. Services like clever.com and classlink will accept adfs login then inject a known password into the website via a browser plugin.
