Try https://www.quickmobilefix.com/ They couldn't actually repair my iPhone but it didn't cost me anything to send it to them and for them to return it to me.

Is it possible/legal to just set up 30 generic 'minecraft' o365 accounts and licence it to those, rather than to each student in the entire school?

Some really useful resources on learnaboutfilm.com, including this guide for Primary Schools.

I would recommend sticking to just using the iPads and iMovie. It's easy for the children and they are able to edit their movies on the fly, and quickly see the results. iMovie has some pretty advanced editing tools - you can do cutaways (when you see video from one stream but keep the audio from another) and J-Cuts (when audio from one clip starts before the video). If you get video cameras it quickly gets complicated downloading footage. To keep things simple, I usually avoid getting student to zoom anyway - it makes them think more carefully about framing. As Joanne said, 'Green Screen' app by DoInk is fantastic - it can cope well even in poor light conditions and dodgy green screens - I use a simple green sheet. As proof, I filmed on iPad/iPhone and did most of the special effects (e.g. the baby and children) the DoInk app (although I edited it in Adobe Premiere). With this app you can also take existing green screen images or footage from YouTube and placed it in front of the video. A fun thing to do is put children inside a space ship. For Green Screen a tripod is essential. With Yr 3 & 4, I focus on getting them to hold the camera still and not wave it about. Yr 5 & 6 I generally insist on tripods. I got tripods like these - but I paid a lot less - around $30 out here in Korea. The issue with iPads is always the audio. Getting the children to create silent movies is a good start. It makes them focus on the acting and direction rather than extended conversations that they have inevitably made up on the fly despite you insisting they plan them! If you are getting serious, I would recommend the Rode VideoMicro as a good all-round mic for 50quid. I start by picking a simple theme (e.g. surprise) and getting them to story board it. Put time limits on it - 30 seconds and no more than 5 seconds per shot. Making Movies Make Sense: run film viewing and filmmaking activities - I haven't used this but it looks good.

I think Clever can be used to sign into Google, which I suppose includes identity badges. It makes Clever the identity provider for Google. See this help page. Or, you can use Google to sign into Clever. However, I would have thought that if you do this, you couldn't sign into Google with a badge.

Clever is free! It's mainly U.S. but schools can register - they just won't set it up for you. I haven't done it myself yet so any feedback would be appreciated. http://schools.clever.com/signup I have a feeling that you can't sign into Google using Clever. Rather you can sign into Clever using Google, or a QR code. However, I need to verify that.

Hello, We are a Primary & Senior school using multiple timetables in SIMS. Senior school has a 2-week timetable. Primary is on 1 week. The way I manage this is that I keep a 1 week copy of the timetable in Nova-T. When I upload, I just create 2 week version. This system works well and stops me making mistakes between the weeks! Now, I need to use alternative curriculum. When I create a 2 week copy of the timetable, the Alternative Curriculum is not duplicated Any Solutions? I wondered if I can operate 2 timetable files (I have a feeling you can do this). File 1: Contain Years 1-6 but NOT the Alternative Curriculum. I would operate this in the same way as I did previously. File 2: Only contain the Alternative Curriculum, no year groups. I would keep this as a 2 week as it rarely changes. When I send File 1 to SIMS would it delete the current alternative curriculum? Thanks,

Thank you for making SIMS Bulk Update Import work with Dropdown UDFS. It took under an hour to update 1500 records - it usually takes 2 people 3 days! If Bulk Import sees an empty value on the spreadsheet it skips it (which I can see is useful). But, is it possible to have it clear a value from a UDF? Thanks again for creating this excellent tool.

We use chq. It is full of features and handles everything from activity sign up to allocation to registration. We use it for many more things than we originally purchased it for. The interface is a bit clunky and it's quite a learning curve (but if you're used to Sims then you'll be used to that.) We use it extensively for communication, and it is easy to send personalised messages to very specific groups of people. E.g 'boys who take an activity on a Thursday but aren't on the ski trip'. It has full integration with SIMS and knows, for example, students lesson timetables. We also use it for people to register for one off events e.g squad trials, or provide permission to go on school trips. You can send out a special email and students or parents can sign up in one click. Then, just as easily, chase up people who haven't responded. Soon we will use it to organise registers for school buses. Schoolsbuddy is a new kid on the block. I haven't used it but it looks pretty.

Looking at the same. If you or another user has any feedback, I'd be most grateful.

Hello We are using the SIMS AD provisioning tool to create usernames. If a child has a space in their name, SIMS will replace the space with an underscore. It's a bit of a pain for younger children and when logging into iPads. I would prefer a dash or, nothing. Is there a way to change the default? Thanks in advance.

Yes, something like that. We're an all-through school so a have a gradual turnover rather than a sudden influx so it's no so bad. Useful to hear your experience. I will suggest this change for next year.

We didn't go for an early admission in the end. But I'm glad to hear that MI5 didn't get involved. We might give it a shot this time round. Thanks for the update.

It's a VBS script in Windows Script Host.
-
Thanks @chrisbsc. Your first script works as expected. The second script doesn't, unfortunately. I'm getting the same error that I get with every example script on the internet! Object Required: 'objNode.getElementsByTagName(...).item(...)' Code: 800A01A8 Source: Microsoft VBScript Runtime Error I can achieve what I want to do now, thanks to your help. However, I'd quite like to figure out second solution as it seems much better.

@spadam I wish is were as simple as looking at the API - I've tried so many! My code is from the Microsoft guide. Just doesn't seem to work. Thanks @chrisbsc That might work - I'll try tomorrow. I was hoping to get the text/value of a specific node, calling it by name rather than relying on the order of the columns. It seems cleaner - if something were to change (e.g. the order of the columns) it wouldn't mess it up.

Ok, I have got a little bit closer. I can get it so it reads a record all as one line. eg. Dylan Bob A0011 United Kingdom Set xmlDoc = CreateObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM") xmlDoc.Async = "False" xmlDoc.Load("z:\test2.xml") Set NodeList = XMLDoc.selectNodes("//SuperStarReport/Record") For Each Node in NodeList WScript.Echo Node.Text WScript.Echo Node.Attributes.getNamedItem("Forename").Text Next The line Node.Text works, but the second line where I try and get a specific value it still fails: 'Object Required'. Any help?

Recording pupil accidents and injuries at school
eean replied to 5tu's topic in How do you do....it?
How about in the medical section under 'Medical Events' You can the list of event types, so we have 'Accident', 'Illness' etc... Then you can have subcategories, so for Accident we every accident imaginable, e.g: Papercut - Back to Class Papercut - Sent Home It makes a long list but works well. Plus you can record further detail if needed. It's pretty easy to report from that section too. -
Hello, I am trying to write a simple script to read the values on each line in an XML file, do some other stuff, then move onto the next line. The file is produced by SIMS. The XML file Dylan Bob A0011 America Lennon John A00088 United Kingdom Here's my code: Set xmlDoc = CreateObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM") xmlDoc.Load("z:\test.xml") Set NodeList = XMLDoc.documentElement.selectNodes("/SuperStarReport/Record") For i = 0 To NodeList.length - 1 WScript.Echo NodeList(i).getAttribute("Forename") Next All I get is 'null' over and over. I've tried various combinations. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Hello, When logging into SLG on a non-school machine using Internet Explorer we an issue where login fails because it is attempting to log in using local computer domain e.g. LOCALPC\User.Name. This can be resolved by getting the user to enter OURDOMAIN\User.Name or User.Name@OURDOMAIN but it's more complex than I'd like (especially as they can't do this for our other systems!) Is there a way to resolve this? We also found the password will not work if it's pasted in by going Right Click and Paste, but it will work if you use Ctrl and V. Also, some parents press Cancel and then get left with a blank screen, which confuses them! I wondered if there was an easy way to turn on form-based logon, like a regular website, rather than having the pop up. Thanks,
-
Hi, I want to reduce the number of steps required for parents to get to a student's report in SLG. (Currently 8!) Is there an easy way to make it so when you log in, it goes straight to the Pupil Dashboard (where you select which of your children you wish to view)? Also, can we make it so if you go to portal.yourdomain.com it forwards straight to /slg or to a different site rather than displaying Access Denied message? Thanks,

That's available in Outlook (at least when connected to Exchange/Office 365). Go to Scheduling Assistant. Here you can invite attendees and mark them as required or optional. Then press 'room finder' and it will list the times where everyone is available. or right click on the timeline can click 'AutoPick' then All People and Resources. It will skip to the next available time.

I thought this was limited to the last month. Backupify claims to offer unlimited storage for $4/user/month. Now, if you have one owner for your staff shared (which seems a better way than having everyone have stuff in their own folders) then you only need to pay for one user. However, I'm not sure if they would be too happy about you paying only $48/year to backup your entire shared drive. Has anyone else tried this?

Hi, Does SIMS bulk import work for UDFs with drop downs? I can see that the option is there to select lookups, however there is nothing to select. We would love it if this feature were possible as currently our admin staff need to make 5 x 600 UDF changes, x 3 times a year! Many thanks for creating this tool. The ease of importing student email addresses has really improved communication in the school. Ian.

I haven't used these specific tablets, however I'd be wary of smaller Android tabs. If they're widescreen and you use the keyboard you might find you're left with little space on the screen. Although we find the iPad mini fine for size, I prefer the larger Androids.
