Why purchase flat screen monitors if your are going to abuse the added space they create on a desk. Flat screen monitor with its small foot print give the pupil more room for hand written exercises and text books etc, and you've planted a workstation smack bang in the space, stand the units up on the feet that probably came with the units - which you've probably thrown away. That keyboard position is terrible, completely un-usable and impractical. Forget about getting cables tidy, position the computers and monitors/Key boards in a way that makes them usable.

Did you upgrade from a previous version of Moodle or is this a fresh install? Also what authentication method are you using for students? EDIT: Ive also found this, Try this php script (Attached) by copying into the root of your moodle directory where your moodle config.php is located. Run by browsing to http://my.moodle.com/moodle/mdl-db-opt.php. Move it out of that directory when you're done with it. There's no guarantee it will make any difference but it will run the mysql CHECK, OPTIMIZE and ANALYZE (REPAIR also if needed) statements on all your tables. As usual, switch moodle to maintenance mode, wait for all the users to be logged off and backup your database (mysqldump) before attempting to run the script. You may need to allocate quite some time to this operation. There seems to be some issues with indexes, multiple. mdl-db-opt.txt mdl-db-opt_100.txt

If your talking about Moodle and meta courses, a meta course is, put simply, a course where only courses are enrolled. Therefore: Science (metacourse) Publish a number of materials here that you want all courses to access, Science year 10 science year9 science year8 and so on, You enrol all the science course in your science meta course, now all science year etc can view resources in Science meta course.

I would say try and concentrate on a single microsoft product, for instance Share Point. Get technical with Share Point and get yourself contracted out, i sometimes do a bit of weekend work for a small company who employes all ages! there is a guy working there on XML something or other who is 56.

We lock down teacher laptops, so far as they even have to ask permission from line managers to get us (IT techs) to give them admin rights to install broadband on there laptops. 1. Teacher sacked accessing inappropriate materials 2. Teacher suspended following enquires about running a business abroad via school equipment while at home. Also some school time use to manager stocks and shares. Looks like he will resign, as a multial agreement between his union and the head 3. Teacher used to let son use laptop for MSN, IM and general surfing. Not suspended, but had to give up laptop for good. 4. To be honest id love a crack at it, ive worked in an inner city school for the past 3 years as a IT Technician. Also provided support for CMIS/Eportal, produced the website design and maintained, Flash - CSS - HTML - Small PHP experience. CompTIA+ training but no exam. Buliding workstations from scratch, incharge or ordering supplies etc. Staff training on Office, internet, and various software applications used specifically within the school. Great relationship with all staff and SLT/SMT Wot do you think?
