IF your going to buy a case to secure your PC make sure its SECURED! we had some (around 50) installed in 3 Mac suites for PowerPc's. unfortunatly it was only when we had 3 stolen that we realised they were held into the concrete reinforced floor by 2 inch screws, you basically rock the case back and forth once or twice and they pop the heads of the screws. Just something to bare in mind.

we bought macs, there not networked just administred per classroom by apple remote dekstop2, they do have internet access though. Power Macs dual processor 2.0ghz - sadly purchased before intel motherboards. 2gb ram, 2 x 250gb hard drive, garageband, reason and Qubase, also for Art they have photoshop etc work very well but staff needed a lot of traning and support to get them off the ground.

the trouble is it all depends on your individual LEA and who exactly is bidding for or been awarded the contract. There are plenty of other factors aswel ranging from timescales, money & one for our skill will it or wont it happen and if it does when? Were a phase 1 school in our LEA so you would think we'd know a fair bit but we dont. ultimatly it looks like IT support for all schools in our area will be outsourced, probably to CAPITA. Our contracts will then be transferred and we will now be working for CAPITA. Obviously were really happpy about this. TO be honst with you its a complete shambles and no one can say for sure until contracts are signed etc. that another problem lol Terms (atleast) here are yet to be agreed, how much mortage will the school have to pay, how many times will we have to meet the architect....the list goes on. IF and when this happens i expect to have around 12 months to find a new job!

We are still running version 2.73.51.0 based in Birmingham the update was due to be released before xmas in time for the school census, but it was delayed due to problems, and is still yet to be released across birmingham. We still have no news of when it might be available. We hope the creases can be ironed out before we get our hands on it.

The iphone looks out-standing, ill definatly be getting one. £250 is well worth it, just as an ipod is worth the rediculous price tag. I can get a 1gb mp3 player from Tesco for £20 which funnily enough players all my music, yet still i shell out for a ipod! its all a question of tatse. Me, personally, love the apple look and happily own an mac book just cuz it looks good on my desk, i didint even look at the spec i just bought the over priced laptop!? ultimatly it will have to prove itself in a market which is hugely competative, can wait for the nano phone!

So how do i set ultraVNC to view multiple monitors?

Were looking for (preferably free solution) to view multiple machines remotely from one computer. Ive looked at the VNC plugin solution but its very unstable and seems really jumpy. Can anyone else recommend any other solutions?

member of staff would like to compare national curriculum levels in excel spredsheet, and give an indication of wether the level has gone up, down or stayed the same. If level was 5 in Year 8 and in Year 9 it is 6 colour the cell red, if it has stayed the same = amber and down - you guessed it Red? Is there anyway i can do this? compare then two numbers and colour a cell/multiple cells depending on result? Dan

We looking to setup VNC in all our ICT labs, we'd like each IT teacher to be able to monitor from a desk all machines in his/her room. I know there is a plugin-extension for viewing multiple monitors on one screen. Firstly i need to know how to setup VNC on all the machines, and remotly delopy the setup file to each Lab machine so i dont have to do it manually. Any pointers?

Screen print and cropping messes up the resolution etc, copied to excel then copied to photoshop works well thanks! not sure why i didint think of it

I have a number of tables whihc have been created in Word 2003, this is for a member of staff, and i need to be able to transfer these tables into a graphics program, fireworks - photoshop etc. Trouble is there doesnt seem to be a way to export them or copy and paste them>? any ideas?

you dont need to rebuild, just stop and start!

once you have changed the password in CMIS for e-portal, you need to stop and restart the eportal service on your eportal server. that should do the trick, you have to do this each time you change passwords.

i wouldnt make students admin in calss server? that all i can say

a simple vbscript or some kind of script which will connect to a sql database. connect to facility database and look up the table structure? anyone know anything about creating sql connections? etc...

ok understand this, but why not start pushing something now? get the email address for all the schools from the educaiton authroity? I can get every email address for every school im birmingham at the drop of a hat! primary and secondary, colleges.... are you saying you dont want to send out un-solicited mail?

why not create a digital brochure, a number of magazies we now receive (free) come in an electronic form. Ive actually done our school prospectus in this way also, surely this way an email address is all you need, massive savings costs, also i prefer to read on screen to be honest. I could even direct you to a flash version which is open source, with dynamic page creation!
