Hi folks - I could really do with a hand getting started with IIS. Never had any experience with this or anything but the simplest of websites, and I'm determined to get an intranet set up here. My questions would be how do you get started building websites and the like using IIS on server 2003? Are there any SUPER awesome resources out there? Is there anything along the lines of an 'intranet from scratch by numbers' going I might take a look at? I'd very much like to get cracking, but I'm loth to tinker with anything that's already in place on my servers currently unless I b0rk something if you see. Thanks in advance for reading.

If you've got just "M" or "F" or "Boy" or "Girl" in the column, select the heading and then go Data > Filter > auto filter. Use the dropdown box that appears to select all the, say, "Girl" entries. The number of those particular entries will be displayed in the very bottom left of your screen, and now only those entries show (to clear that, select the dropdown arrow again which is now blue.) Fill the first cell in the column then drag to fill for the rest of the girls, repeat with boys, should all be good. Quick and dirty way to do it if I'm actually getting what you needed.

Got 22 in here. When that JEFFING toner order from last week arrives I'll be down to 17. 5 are ongoing reminders, 2 are PICNIC and there's probably some genuine issues in there somewhere or something. I'd definitely go with the funny-ish username thing. I've gone for that as an aspiring tech and still relatively green as it allows you to be pleasant and not too much is expected of you! If I were called, say, Windows XPert 2000 v1.22 people might think I knew what I was talking about! El_Nombre means I can get away with asking all the silly questions I need to as part of the learning process, and have the majority of my posts behind a certain red door and nobody (really) minds. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3876/berto.jpg Oddly enough, when I was much younger in the grips of raging glandular fever I remember waking in the night and hearing voices outside my room just out of sight around the landing 'planning' something in whispering voices, couldn't make out precisely what these voices were saying beyond "NO! NOT that way..." "THAT can't be done" and it was more intriguing at the time than alarming. Later on, just before sunrise, I looked over to the side of my room to see a figure crouch into some shadowed area by my desk. I DEFINITELY saw it crouch down into the dark area and was totally convinced that if I stared at it and didn't let it out of my sight it wouldn't move and I'd be safe. A good hour passed as the sun came up, eventually revealing the dark area to contain ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Hi folks, hope this is the right section for this. Just for a bit of back story, the other day I cabled in a couple of points in rooms of the school previously off the grid. This involved ascending a million miles (roughly) up a ladder and fighting off giant spiders and mutants... and also, the main aspect of problem, a very long run of cat5. I am definitely beyond the 100m to the switch but I have a link half way in a secure place at a patch panel on the wall. I've heard from time immemorial there are devices out there to extend the range of cat5 but I cannot find much that's solid out there about them. I only need to extend the one cable. I'd DEFINITELY have run fibre if it were an option but sadly not. Anyone ever been worked into this situation before and bought/used one? Any suggestions on what to get? Whatever happened to those corporate 'scream rooms' you used to hear about? A small, totally soundproofed room you could go into and just scream for a few minutes. Anyway, essential equipment for the psychologically healthy I think. Would stop me doing it in random classrooms full of kids as the letters from parents are getting more and more frequent... ;P

When I had my setup working here we used PCs and Cubase. It's great software tbh, little bit of a learning curve but in an afternoon you'll be away. Sadly, my setup was destroyed through neglect and vandalism, but in its day it worked a treat. Went with the all-PC setup as we had Ranger running on a second (curriculum) domain at the time, and had to do all sorts of gymnastics to get drives to map and soundcards set up. To save shipping the immense amounts of data back over the network to the student home areas (which would have upset the flighty servers and switches, not to mention the storage quota limit!) we set up a NAS mapped by local admin, then NTUSER.DAT copied over to all users so they retained the drive but were still locked down through Ranger and permissions. Terabyte NAS sat in the same cab the workstations were patched into, so recording was always done to that and the NAS backed up every other day (or rather night.) For soundcards I went with M-Audio Delta 1010LTs; lots of ins and outs and much bang for the buck. Bulletproof drivers also. Used a mixer and a rack preamp for mic pres and line/instrument ins. j17sparky is onto the right track there tbh with one mic per instrument, though keys you might want in stereo. For drums, you can 'submix' from a mixer in the drum room (as in, have a small mixer with a mic to each drum eq-ed and set up how you want it, then record the output from that mixer to two tracks in your software. Repeat/apply/modify the idea as appropriate for orchestra setups.) For guitars, you can also record using software/virtual amps inside the sequencer itself. That means a kid over headphones laying down his guitar tracks can be WAILING out the solos take after take but not disturbing the room! Same applies with virtual instruments like drums, keys and bass. Can make a whole song just over 'phones without ever seeing a 'real' instrument. Best place to check for all things studio-related is TWEAK'S GUIDE. For a sample of my favourite virtual instruments check out TOONTRACK'S EZDRUMMER, GUITAR RIG and A VST SYNTH RUNDOWN (be prepared to be blown away by Spectrasonic's Omnisphere...) Ah that sounds like it! I'll run off and see if that does the trick. Yeah I found the option to globally disable it but I'm loth to. FOG's kinda useful that way when it's working alright (from my limited experience with the thing.) Thanks so much for the help! EDIT - urgh. No it's still doing it. Chopping the Hostname changer. (EDIT2 - Which HAS now sorted it) I'd love to be able to use the FOG server but with the way things are here it's going to have to wait until I've got a spare afternoon to read up on. 'orrible thing. Hi folks - completely new to FOG, having a bit of a falling out at the moment. Long story short is we took a disk image of a machine locally, which we HAD intended to have FOG rename for us but for various networking issues on the day it wouldn't after several restarts of the client. I've used that image we took locally now on another machine, but THIS machine is now restarting constantly thanks to FOG and renaming itself to the name of the ORIGINAL machine whenever it's restarted. I have access to the FOG console and had meant to get to grips with it one of these days, but was hoping it wouldn't be on unpleasant terms! What do I need to change on the FOG server to stop this mischief? Many thanks for reading!

Hi helpful folks - I guess form reading the title you've stepped in to take pity on a poor noob so I'm already grateful to you for reading! Well, never written a macro myself before only recorded the odd very basic procedure. I need to write a procedure where, based on a numerical value of 1-5 in a certain column, the background colour of that cell will change to one of five corresponding colours. Conditional formatting only allows for three colours so I have to do it this way. I rummaged around for some code and found this page but I'm stuck as to what to do from there! How on earth do I, like, make it work? I'm so confused. I can about manage changing the colours and their related numbers but not assign the column it needs to apply to nor get it to run or save it in a situation where staff could us it on one or more spreadsheets and feeling as if I've bitten off more than I can chew here. Can anyone steer me right or outright spoonfeed me this? Thanks for reading all that.
