Can you ping the pc from the server?

transfer a domain controller to new hardware
danrhodes replied to Gardinho's topic in How do you do....it?
Correct, it is just a case of re-deploying sophos through the newly installed console. Also you can keep the old IP and not have issues as this will be handled by DNS / DHCP, just make sure the other server is off the network before you change the address over. Also it may be worth manually changing the DNS entries to your new server name afterwards so you dont get any dns resolving issues on your clients. D -
Forbidding users to save files to desktop.
danrhodes replied to andyturpie's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Why not use GP to redirect the Desktop to one central location on the server, apply NTFS ACL permissions to that folder so that staff can only read, this way you have controll over what is on their desktop from one central location, all the program shortcuts can either go on the desktop of a seperate re-directed startmenu. 1. Edit user GPO 2. Go to user config 3. Go to folder redirection 4. Right click folder redirection and click properties. 5. Redirect all to same location 6. Create a folder on your server, share is as "Desktop" and apply NTFS ACL's to give staff read permission. 7. Enter the address into the location as \\servername\desktop 8. Sit back and relax. D -
Try disabling all the adaptors then re enabling the wireless NIC. Also if you have iTunes installed try disabling the services it has running at startup, I've known such things as the Bonjour service from apple cause issues like this. D

You need to set your network type to "Home" this will relax your security settings and prevent your internet access troubles. Also if you are manually setting your IP settings make sure you have a default gateway specified or you will also the the unidentified network error. D

It's hardly a noticable issue anyway as when do you really ever need to shutdown a serer often enough to notice a ten minute delay? D

I stand corrected "FileMon and Regmon are no longer available for download. They have been replaced by Process Monitor on versions of Windows starting with Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Vista." My Bad! :-( D

I know it shouldn't make any difference but have you been using FQDN for your server and the Domain in CAPITALS as sometimes it can be fussy about these things. Also if you are trying to configure openfiler through IE that also can complicate matter's, try using putty to SSH in or Firefox if you dont fancy the SSH method. D

What type of auth are you trying to use? Kerberos, Transparent Kerberos, LDAP, Transparent NTLM??

Actually it's all to do with it being a DC. The slow shutdown occurs because the Active Directory related services shut down before the Exchange services, thus causing the Exchange services to fail repeatedly while looking for the DS. You can solve the issue a few ways, changing "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaitToKillServiceTimeout" from "60000" to "20000" or by manually stopping the exchange services below. net stop MSExchangeES net stop IMAP4Svc net stop POP3Svc net stop RESvc net stop MSExchangeSRS net stop MSExchangeMGMT net stop MSExchangeMTA net stop MSExchangeIS /Y net stop MSExchangeSA /
