Hi, Can anyone offer me any insight into how the height adjustment mechanism works on the Promethean ActivBoard +2 V2? Something has gone on one of ours, it won't stay where its put, it just zooms back up to the top. It's a manual mechanism on these boards, not electric. As far as I can tell, there are counterweights which offset the weight of the board to assist it going up, but these seem to have overridden whatever normally keeps them in check. Is this just friction, and if so, where would it be applied? I called Promethean UK support on this one, but they're closed for training and give no indication of when they're reopening! I am planning on using an MDM, although I haven't got that set up yet. I've heard anecdotally that iOS9 is a bit buggy with App deployment via MDM, so definitely keeping the sync option in there just in case!

Yeah, it is a swizz, both from Cambrionix and the case manufacturers. If I had the time and the inclination, I'm sure I could knock up something for under £100, plus the USB gadget. As it is, I'm most likely giving in on this one and taking the path of least resistance, and buying a LapSafe Traveller. It's a good product and will do everything I need, and as we're going down the Gripcase route, I know that they will fit which is a weight off my mind. I've goaded a few suppliers and got them down to under £1200 at least.

Haha! I have heard of this trick before actually, that's a good bit of mischief right there. Right PIA to fix though. I'm going to try and put these devices into an MDM, I think (hope) that's one of the things I can lock down.

Interesting! Pity they don't name and shame the manufacturer there. My bigger H&S concern is the weight teachers will be lifting, but if I want to keep the whole lot together in one case, that's kinda unavoidable.

Yup, I think it said in the accompanying letter it was for all LGfL schools. From a customer point of view, Atomwide provide the LGfL services. Virgin are just a subcontractor.

Yeah, it's a thought. We have two sites, separated by a road, but each site is only one building. Stuff doesn't tend to move between the sites too easily as it's a faff, but doesn't mean some bright spark might not try it!

Yeah, I'm definitely leaning that way now! It would be nice to have the sync functionality, especially during initial setup, but day to day I don't think I'm going to need it.

Haha! Good call.... now, all I need is a couple of USB hubs and some super glue, and I can make my own! Seriously, the prices on these things. It's a suitcase with a USB hub and a plug.... LapSafe just quoted me £1349 for the Traveller Gripcase.

I could definitely go for one of those, stick a Go Pro on the front and rig it up with a remote control.... although the kids would just ignore the iPads and spend all lesson riding the trolley. We've only got a few stairs, we're like Alis_Klar above, on a hill. Collecting the iPad sets will very much be the class teacher's responsibility, believe me!

In a previous job I had CentraStage to play with, that did some quite good stuff around Event Monitoring, you know "if Event ID 123 occurs, do the following Email | Run Task | Etc". In that way I put Event Monitors on all our servers for particular events, notably disk failures etc. Probably wouldn't buy the whole product just for that though.

Hi all, I'm currently in the process of getting quotes for a set of iPads, and I just wondered what peoples experiences are with charging trolleys? The LapSafe Traveller product is the one that I've seen around the most, and I do like it, but the prices are a bit eye-watering. The GoCabby one looks a bit tacky, but it is significantly cheaper, I've had a quote for that at about £700. I understand the significant difference is charge+sync vs just charge... obviously I'd prefer to have the sync functionality in there, but as I'm looking at managing via Meraki after initial setup with Apple Configurator, will I ever need that do you think? Any thoughts, or alternatives? These will be going up and down stairs, so the suitcase style is a must, rather than a static cabinet or a wheeled trolley. Thanks!

Yup, we've just done ours for the same deal. Double the speed, a £1k pa discount, it was a no brainer really! The benefits of a not for profit supplier I guess, BT or Virgin would just absorb those costs savings, rather than offer customers a free upgrade and discount. It does mean we're now tied in until 2021, but I don't see LGfL going anywhere any time soon.

Yup, we're "blessed" with Junior Librarian here also. I used to work as LA support, and out of 60-odd schools I wasn't aware of anyone using anything else, it's really the de-facto choice for primary schools.

Without going too deep into your logs, this sounds very similar to a problem I was having last week, which gave a similar error code. Have you tried the same Task Sequence with a different machine? Mine turned out to be a corrupt partition on the HD of the machine I was building, deleted all partitions with Gparted and worked fine after that.

We have the below DAP 16u flight case for sale. It was used to house our audio set up in the hall, but was never really appropriate, we're using a cabinet now. Front and top sides remove, and there is a rear panel which also removes. Under the top cover is another ~16u horizontal rack that can be raised up at an angle for mixing desk etc. It's a bit scuffed etc, but complete and functional. Rolls on castors, crew handles on two sides. Includes two slide-out kit trays. List price is about £180, asking about £100 ono, collection only (North London).

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing, it's normal behavior. As you quite rightly point out, the filtering on group is based on the SID, of which the group "name" is only ever a mask on top of the true object. Filtering by OU though is done on a text string, not sure how exactly, maybe an LDAP query, as I presume OUs don't have a SID to use in the same way.

Hi, We're having a problem with one of our boards where it is not interactive. The Promethean flame is lit up top left, and the board is recognised in ActivManager, but we are getting no response when we try and use the board with a pen. We have tried using a known-good pen and the result is the same. I don't have a board name to hand, but it is an older model, pre-2010. We are using ActivDriver v5.9. Any ideas? Thanks!

Oh dear, something's dirty in the OS of those machines then! A quick Google of your error suggests it may be tied to Dot Net failures, so maybe try an uninstall / clean reinstall of Dot Net 4.5?
