As I think you've just found, the key point is making sure the "Move the contents of Desktop to the new location" option is ticked. I've retrospectively added desktop redirection to quite a few networks in the past, and as long as this is ticked, and the new redirected desktop folder is writable by the user, files stored on the desktop have copied over just fine. My preferred method is to disable saving on the desktop completely, but that's not always popular!

Hi, We still have a couple of the ActivBoard +1 models (the first generation with blue and yellow frames), that must be in the region of 10 years old now. One in particular is giving us real trouble, interactivity is phasing in and out, one day it's there, the next its not. It's not the pen, as the problem remains when using a known good pen. The board remains connected and recognised in ActivDriver via USB throughout (we are using driver software v5.11). Is there anything further I can do to troubleshoot this board? If this is a sign that the board is dying, are there any parts I can buy to repair it? The budget really doesn't stretch to replacement boards at the moment! Dave.

I had my first complaint about this yesterday at 4.30, now I understand why... In that instance I just bypassed the filtering and downloaded the required content, thinking it was a one-off. It will be interesting to see how many reports of blocked videos I get this week then, as I can't do that each time. Like a lot of people, I have YouTube allowed for staff only, so this is going to leave me with a choice of too much filtering on YouTube, or none at all, great! I often wonder if Atomwide are way too zealous with this vendetta they have against https (really guys? Increasing security.... by blocking https. Amazing!), but on the flipside teachers would be up in arms if keyword filtering / Safe Search didn't work and you could potentially Google search one bikini picture...

Hi Ben, Sounds like you've been hit by the KB3114409 buggy Windows Update. This causes Outlook to always start in safe mode, restricting your usage. More info here. Uninstall this update and you should be fine. I've got the command line to uninstall if you want to script it. Dave.

Thinking about it, you could have a point there Jawloms. Maybe I'll consider swapping out the splitter before I send the projector back.

Possible I suppose, but this only started happening when we got the new projector, it was never a problem with the old one.

Hi all, I have a Hitachi projector, only a few months old, and every know and again the projected image skews into a parallelogram shape, as seen on the attached picture. The error is cleared by pressing auto on the remote to redetect the input. Has anyone else ever seen a projector do that, or have the faintest idea why that might happen? It's not the graphics card, as this is going through a video splitter and the desktop monitor display is fine. I'm really doubtful its the cable or splitter, as resetting the projector clears it. As its fairly new I've got an agreement from my supplier (who's tech support had never seen such a thing either) to swap it out, but I'm just really curious! Some part of the graphics processor in the projector perhaps?

Hi Nick, We tried a lot of things to try and get this to work at my old place, as some of our schools used shared mailboxes and calendars extensively. I'm afraid all our conclusions supported Atomwides statement - iOS mail app just does not deal with shared Exchange calendars. The only option really would be to get a third party mail app that can cope with shared mailboxes, OR, you could do a link to the calendar in OWA and run it through the device's browser. You can build a URL that will take you direct to a shared calendar, there's some really helpful syntax info at this link - https://exchangeshare.wordpress.com/2009/06/15/how-to-open-shared-calendar-in-owa/. Ah good, glad to hear it! I don't know why MS can't put together a decent fixit for a factory reset of the print spooler, it's a right pain! (Yes, I know, something something third party drivers...). The one they did for XP worked quite well on the couple of times I used it.

Sounds like print spooler is knackered, which could be a whole can of worms to try and fix. Have you tried the MS print spooler reset tools? Other than that you could manually remove all the print drivers from Print Server Properties, and start hacking around in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers, but you could spend hours on it, by which point you could have reimaged. Broken print spoolers are a real time sink!

Unlikely to be anything to do with processor, it's normally the general state of the OS / Windows Installer / other applications that cause errors like this. If the Event log isn't giving you anything helpful, what happens when you run the MSI interactively? I assume you've got all and any dependencies - Dot Net, Visual Studio Tools, or whatever else it may need.

Wow, how did you get those? Impressive! They are one out though, my 0001 is 0xAAC6DCFD19A40D0F, whereas that's your 0002. Unfortunately, our codes don't start at 0001, they start at 1111 and go through to 1200+ (not my work I might add, picking up after someone else who started this). Ideally I'd prefer a bit of script that takes the "0001" value and converts into the binary, rather than having a static lookup table, but by the sounds of it that might not be easily achieved.

Yeah, that is an option I played with, but because I'm using the Hold job type, I need to populate two fields. I could get away with the one popup, but two is pushing it. I suppose there is maybe the option of scripting / prepopulating the User ID for Hold print details, as that's just plain text, and then having one popup for authenticating User Code, but it's a bit messy.

I'll take a look at that Ricoh tool, but I don't think repackaging the driver with each (80+) printer codes is likely to be the answer. Individual codes for every member of staff unfortunately, otherwise yeah I could've just pushed out some GPP registry entries conditional on group membership or similar.

Hi all, We're looking at implementing some print restrictions on our Ricoh copiers to reduce wastage, and we're going for Hold prints and user codes. We're not in the market for Papercut or Equitrac just yet. We're currently unrestricted and unaccounted, which for four copiers is pretty pricey. I've used the Ricoh custom driver tool to create a driver than only allows Hold prints, that seems to work well. However, to get that to work and to allow full accounting of print jobs, under the user's Printer Preferences I need a User ID in the Job Type details, and a User Code in Valid Access tab. Ideally, to minimise the support impact, I'd like to script the entry of these codes, maybe base User ID for the Hold job on username and drag in the four digit user code from an AD field. I've identified the registry keys for these, User ID lives in a simple string under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RICOH\JOBCODE\JCUserCode and User Code lives HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RICOH\JOBCODE\JCUserCode under a binary value, which I haven't figured out how to transpose yet. Anyone got any idea how my four digit copier code (eg 1234) transposes into the registry binary value (eg f0 31 b2 3e ca eb d1 eb)? Has anyone here ever attempted to script the input of these codes? Thanks Boredguy. Yes, this appears to be (one of) my problems. The black handle was not locking, as part of the mechanism was loose (the silver disk that sits inside the pillar in that picture), indeed, as it seems to be on all of our boards of this type. Having screwed that back in fingertight, I can now lock the board static (although it will move if pushed, it's not a great lock). So now the only other question is why the board keeps drifting up, instead of staying where put. I think I may have just realised my own silly mistake here - I'm replacing the projector on this board, so it's currently underweight. Is the counterweighting on these finely balanced enough that removing a projector would completely throw it? Hopefully its as simple as that. I've done another of these this morning, but on the other I'm guessing that (what was left of) the friction from black handle locking mechanism was holding the weight difference, whilst still allowing me to move the board up and down quite easily. Best revisit that one and fix the lock!

Yeah, as far as I can tell the only check on the movement seems to come from a black twist handle with a small keyhole on it, which seems to screw into one of the side pillars. The model I'm working on is the V2 DaveP, which is identifiable by the orange stripes on pillars and projector boom.

Hi, Can anyone offer me any insight into how the height adjustment mechanism works on the Promethean ActivBoard +2 V2? Something has gone on one of ours, it won't stay where its put, it just zooms back up to the top. It's a manual mechanism on these boards, not electric. As far as I can tell, there are counterweights which offset the weight of the board to assist it going up, but these seem to have overridden whatever normally keeps them in check. Is this just friction, and if so, where would it be applied? I called Promethean UK support on this one, but they're closed for training and give no indication of when they're reopening! Cheers, Dave.
