On a related note, I'm having bother at multiple sites where I cannot push this patch to the DB server. Error about an existing object. How do I purge an attempted deployment and start afresh?

Broken ESS patch, dude. Make sure the patch has gone to the database too, check client has it, reinstall fileset 2701, restart sims, and try it again. I'm having this issue on all 5 our of primaries and we've had major issues getting the patch onto the DB servers. SchoolICT is fixing it, but understandably due to census week carnage, they're slow to get it fixed. Being a DB patch, you'll need to do it out of hours, or tell everyone to come out of SIMS until the patch is done.

Thanks for the offer, very much appreciated. With the greatest respect, I'm not sure I could swing that without it coming from a third party support team. Essentially we have the fix lined up to push up the newest, 'fixed' consol. patch 2, but whenever I try to push it out to the SQL agent, it says a deployment object already exists. I do not know how to purge this, and restarting SOLUS3 and the solus deployment service yields no results. I don't want to just try it, but I wonder if the old purge the solus/sims programdata folder might help...

Having bother with this in two schools. Our third part support are saying to ensure the DB patch has been applied and are otherwise slow to reply. I'm not really experienced with SIMS patching etc. How do I deploy the patch to the database? I'm aware it has to be out of hours. Like above, it has installed on clients after having "... is available, do you want to install?". It is there as a downloaded update, but does not appear in the deployment history for this school, and if I try to redownload/redploy, it errors with "object already exists". Getting shouted at by SBMs and frankly I don't have a clue how to sort it. Getting frustrated with third party just sending me the same copy and paste "install patch, restart service, import fileset...". I know. I can't. This is now the problem you need to fix..! Thanks!

Sounds like we've had very similar experiences and thought processes. I had a right mare capturing the image due to some weird appx, where if allowed to run, they would break the capture process. I', going back 12 months so I'm very overly simplifying an old memory. That GPP reg key is the one I have been testing, I believe.

Nope, but I haven't wanted to put some time into looking at it. Standard folder redirection doesn't work, as it applies that before Google drive has loaded and mapped the G Drive that the windows folders are trying to redirect to. I'll look at this option, thanks. Personally, I really just want to go to 365 - it's far superior, in my opinion. I have been trialling registry keys that hide all of the libraries and set This PC instead of Quick Access and have it working quite nicely in testing. Regarding downloads, I'm personally contemplating whether that folder should be redirected at all and instead we purge that folder regularly. Too many staff let this folder build up to many GBs because they're too lazy or IT illiterate to manage it. Often important, working files are housed there and it triggers me to no end. I had a similar PS1 batch file that would do the same that was applied during image build. When you say via GPO, do you mean as preference registry key?

For us, it's a mixture of several small issues, largely human errors in small, overstretched teams where the basic housekeeping often gets overlooked. In a high school where behaviour is shocking and devices are frequently broken, PCs are moved and repurposed repeatedly. Inevitably they end up in the wrong room, or apprentices don't rename things correctly, so it's often best to start afresh and give DNS a good purge etc. We're running W10 22H2 currently, and as said above, it's the last feature update for W10 so building a new image isn't really needed often, which is conversely also a reason I want to move away from having an 'image' entirely, be it thick or thin. We're not a huge trust and scheduled imaging is done out of term time, and with multicast we can blitz through suites fairly quickly. When a PC is to be imaged due to an error (looking at you, Lightspeed...) or potential malware, the 45 mins or so that the PC is offline isn't too bad an issue - plenty other devices that can be used. Obviously different for a classroom.

We don't use any of the standard W10 user libraries though. All files and data live on Google Drive, so the only reference to that is via a mapped drive. So, the only drive they need to see is G: drive so it would make much more sense to show that and only that.

Those that have ditched deploying captured WIMs in favour of a full task sequence approach, what windows tweaks/settings etc. do you deploy as part of the TS? Little things like This PC rather than Quick Access etc. My captured image is now super thin to the point I really do not need to be capturing a reference image anymore. I just want it to go OS > updates > software > customisation etc. in one nice thorough task sequence. We do not have Intune and we cannot afford to do so, so we're stuck with SCCM even for deployed laptops (I know I know, it's shocking, but I don't call the shots...). Thanks!

Perhaps this is a rookie 101 question, but how do you handle remote deployments of the OS? Say you want to image 5 IT suites of 32 PCs, and your AD, DNS, and SCCM clients are all nice, correct, and neat?

Just a thought, dude, what's your catch all? I currently have a variable that sets up the OU path per subnet, but if we take on a new site and forget to add the new value (I mean I've never done this... ) it doesn't domain join and the whole thing fails. If you enter an OU that doesn't exist in AD, what happens?

This is the route I was going to go down too. We have naming conventions too, and I'm very OCD with it, but getting others to stick to it is the problem.

Something's rattling around in my brain about this issue a few years ago. I haven't touched MDT in a good while as it's SCCM at my current place. I do confidently recall having to set the system language to en-US but set input and region to en-gb Also, check Office. I have a very strong hunch that Office 2019 was installing as en-US and setting it to default. Very annoying, but I have fixed it on my current image setup

Could it be anything to do with the disk setup in the BIOS? We had issues on some newer DELL laptops where the disk driver wasn't detecting the disk, so we had to change away from RAID to AHCI. This won't fix your issue as clearly the TS is seeing the disk. Might be worth checking the settings on the ones that fail to find a common issue? Or does it happen ~1/10 in general, ie it may fail on one that has successfully partitioned in the past?

So I've been using SCCM for about a year now, but I'm not getting a huge amount of time to focus on it and put my ideas into practice. Essentially, I'd like one smart Task Sequence that, depending on several variables, will automatically place clients into correct collections, AD groups etc, deploy apps/settings/registry etc. OCD me doesn't really like having loads of post OS deployment app installations - I want users to see that it's on the sign in screen and correctly assume all is ready to rock. I want to get away from an 'image' entirely too. I just want latest 22H2 ISO followed by updates, apps, config, domain join etc all in one nice sequence. I already have a few apps pushing out depending on the detected subnet, so that only Site A gets app 7, and Site B gets app 3 and 4 etc. I've got several device collections looking up AD groups or OUs, and driver collections (using DELL Command integration) pushing out drivers depending on queried hardware etc. What have you got that's fancy so that I may develop skills with some fresh ideas?

Just had a chat with the head and the requirements have changed, or I've just been fully updated on them anyway. Turns out they just want a 42" TV to play the odd video on, so I'll just point them to a decentish TV and let them crack on with it. Thanks for the suggestions and apologies for wasting your time! Have a school after a single screen for a room where touch/interactivity isn't required. Thinking a 60" TV may even do, but obviously it's going to be on for 8 hours a day etc. What panels have people used with success in similar situations please? Thanks!

Just to add to the frustration, I have wiped a device several times and removed it from all lightspeed groups that are sending out restrictions and policies, yet when the device comes back online and re enrols back into Lightspeed MDM, it's picking up all the settings that were previously assigned to it. These are shown in the device info as 'cached' restrictions or policies. Is this an iOS/Apple thing or Lightspeed? Either way, is there a way to somehow purge these so I can continue my Alert testing?

Bit of a vague open ended question, but I'm starting to get frustrated with iPads not doing what I'm telling them to via Lightspeed. I can see the device checked in etc, but it will not perform any of the queued activities. Even if I tell it to clear activities and try again, or tether to my phone etc, the iPad just sits there oblivious to what I've told it to do. Same thing often happens with bulky app updates. Seems they sometimes get halfway though and sit there stuck half installed. Anyone else had issues like this before?

Came here to post this same issue, driving me mad. Used https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/loganalyzer/ and everything checks out fine. Ad used, matched by mail, is added to Google Group, but remove them from AD and run the sync, they're never removed. I'll try removing this group in Google and letting GCDS recreate it. I suspect doing so is going to cause email issues with people's directory results though? EDIT: after more testing, this issue is limited to some groups, and not others. Need to look at group permissions, however I was pretty thorough with keeping them consistent...

Yeah it won't PXE boot beyond loading NBP file if the device is a known device in SCCM. removing it allows the PXE boot and deployment. This isn't a setting on the task sequence as it's not getting that far, and it's not a WDS setting as that's already set to allow all devices (this is WDS known/unknown, not SCCM anyway). Where would I find the settings to resolve this issue?

Progress. Something in SCCM isn't liking 'known' devices. I've deleted the PCs from SCCM (so the MAC isn't of a known device) and changed the WDS PXE response to accept known and unknown without approval. It's working for now, so will investigate later. Second last week of the hols and all that...

Thanks for this. I've just added the keys and used the default values before restarting WDS service. No joy We have just had new switches put in so I'll double check with my NM that the IP Helpers are in and correct, however we have imaged successfully in this room since then. I'm going to bounce SCCM DP server for this site and see what happens...
