We've had intermittent issues with lightspeed filter for a good while now and the latest version promises to fix the issue, but it always returns. The fact that it happens in bulk like today where, we think, a Windows update had stopped the service and it failed to restart. We have a GPO that forces the service to auto restart on failure but it hasn't fixed it. Restarting the PC doesn't help either and the only option is to use services.msc remotely to manually start the lightspeed filter agent service. Lightspeed have been very supportive, but we're struggling to capture useful logs because anecdotally this doesn't seem to repeat on the same device often. So right now, I have no idea what the cause is. Event viewer just shows a typical 101 error to show the service stopping but this is logged when the PC shuts down and so gives us nothing useful other than to say the service stopped... We're running the Windows Agent 2.6.3 as well as chrome extensions, but depending on what article you read on their site this is both recommended and not recommended. Their AI chat helper is very good at understanding my questions and it says I should be running both as we are. So I'm quite frustrated and confused.

Anyone else? Lightspeed Filter Agent service stopped, so internet access blocked. On some cases it causes Google Drive client to load resulting in the renaming of their local DriveFS folder being required.

Seeing as you're being so frank and direct, allow me to be so. Arguably, some of what you said isn't 100% wrong: I am frustrated and tired. But I am not just some grumpy Technician trying to have things his way. However, we are employed for a reason. We are not there as tech slaves just to look at everything that has a plug because no else things have a very basic understanding of their way around an OS is their concern. It is. We are there becusse it is our job (IT as a whole, disregarding 'rank' or seniority) to understand, help, advice, and run a safe, fit for purpose network. So when you've been on the ground in IT for 15 years and you have drives and passions to bring in systems that work well for teachers etc and will fix larger issues, one gets via burned out when the smallest of your issues is a complete and utter lack of funding. You can't run an up to date network when tech is aging or failing and there's no money to buy fit for purpose tech to keep up with an ever changing, and ever more threatening landscape. Even worse when those that do call the shots won't listen to IT leads when they're begging for tech to prevent the next attack. So yeah, if that's what I have to deal with and I care about the schools and people too much to just quit, you can bet your arse I'm going to struggling and grumpy. I hold no apologies for that but I think you owe me and others here one.

I've just told SLT of a large primary school why I cannot and will not return several iOS10.3 iPads for use, and broke it to them that in the near future many will have the same fate. Wish me luck...

What school do you support? Eton? Academies in the North East are severely under funded and as said below, most network managers aren't included in decision making let alone us techs, so I don't know what you expect us to be able to do.

This too. Simple answer, there is no money to buy new gear and understandably teachers get very upset (when do they not?) when IT say you can't use this perfectly working iPad because it's old. I understand it's more than just old, but they don't nor do they give a crap. They just see IT waltzing and breaking stuff.

We've got ~550 devices registered in our MDM and more keep coming out of the woodwork. It doesn't matter how many time I ask schools to look for them, or how many times I go looking, more are found... I've just had 7 handed to me, and they're all EOL with iOS10.3 being the latest. I have kept them and will not be returning them, as it's a clart on to get them set up on MDM as you need iOS 11.x or later to enrol them up to to Apple School Manager/DEP via Apple Config. Plus, a device that ceased getting updates 7 years ago is not suitable for education use, IMO. Just wondering what you guys do? Thanks!

The latter is basically what we ended up doing, I just hoped I could give exact data. In then I was just able to prove that essentially printing in the last month has cost the school between best case and worst case, and so now we've enforced a limit (which, IMO, should have been done day 1, but hey ho).

Costs per sheet were wrong in Papercut, so I have adjusted them. To give a valid report to SLT, I would like to update user spending for the last 30 days to reflect the updated costs. Any ways to do this that you know of? Thanks!

Going to look into this more, as I think it would tick the boxes. It won't replace AD accounts and GPOs for on site devices over night, but if staff just need to access their Google account on a a remote device and we can manage the device with it, it should be quite good.

Yup, the problem is we're not fully committed to the Google world. Too many people want Windows and Office because it's what they know and use. Next device refresh, I think that that option is going to be on the cards, but no idea when that will happen. Unfortunately, right now, it means we have several hundred staff laptops that float between sites and home that are domain joined. "Make sure you log on to this before you go home" is not a management solution... 😱

We have say 1000 laptops across our schools. Vast majority stay on site for classroom use and do not leave site. Staff allocated ones however, are mobile and so can leave site or traverse sites. Our problem? We do not have Intune or anything set up for Windows mobile devices. We are a Google site and so do not have any fancy Microsoft licenses other than office, CALs, and Window essentially. SO, this means that laptops for home use etc, are currently imaged EXACTLY the same as a standard PC, domain joined. They're BitLockered' but obviously this means we have zero remote management or deployment when they're not on site and reporting back to SCCM etc. Getting Intune is not going to happen. I haven't even bothered looking at license costs, because our climate will prohibit any expendature - even if it's cheaper in the long run than all the wasted tech time. So, TL;DR... how are you managing pools of windows laptops that can leave site without Intune? What other MDM product would you recommend that would keep devices compliant, allow for remote blocking/wiping, remote support etc.? Thanks!

Have just installed this thanks. HP is greyed out on the Make and Model page so cannot query HP drivers. Wonder if I'm missing a requisite as it's moaning about Lenovo. EDIT: sorted. HP Doesn't like "Windows 10" as the OS; you have to be more specific. Alas, still no 255 G7 option, obviously because it taps into the same catalogue that HP's own tool does. I'm going to have to install this tool on a 255 G7 and pull the drivers I think. First, lunch...

Wish it was as simple as it is with Dell, jeez. We have some older (but not stupid old) 255 G7 laptops. Can I find full driver packs for them? Can I s***e. I've installed the MIK tool for SCCM, which lets me tap into HP and pull down the driver packages, but I cannot see 255 G7 listed regardless of which of the many OS options I pick (all W10/11). For reference, this is the HP driver pack list, and 255 G7 is nowhere to be found. I really do not want to pull down 10-15 driver packs per device type. Same here, knocked out census for all 5 of our primaries. Run SOLUS3 deployment as administrator, do a request for updates, restart solus 3 deployment service and redeploy the new, fixed consolidated patch 2 to DB (out of hours, or get all staff to close SIMS) and client(s). After all that's done, get census user to reimport fileset 2701, restart SIMS client, and good to go. No more can't find table 12 error.

Funnily enough dude, a post you made in 2019 has just saved my day: /forums/mis-systems/210073-solus-3-object-already-exists.html That is the problem I'm having with our hand me down MIS environment, where the previous LA that handled it didn't even use SOLUS. Third party have taken over but permissions are fecked, so the simple 'run as admin' in this post has fixed it for me.
