  1. What is your current web filtering solution?
  2. I've used the network share option onto a Synology NAS. The credentials used to access the share cannot access the recycling bin (so even if all the backup shots are deleted they are recoverable) and 2FA is used for admin accounts.
  3. I've used a Synology NAS for the local copy of the server backups, not really needed to be honest I don't think, but its not doing any harm. I tested restoring a server (about 200GB) from both the online backup and local, it took about 30 minutes from the online copy and 15 mins form the NAS.
  4. I concur.
  5. Would the management prefer the school to be hacked?
  6. I'd defiantly look into using the BE instead of the smart pac. To make it work seamlessly I'd recommend: - Using Edge as your only browser (block all others and disable private windows) - Have O365 SSO working - Policy to silently log users into edge (and block other extensions) I do it this way and it works flawlessly.
  7. Can you use the browser extension instead? I never used the SmartPac, apart from on iOS.
  8. Fair enough, and if the Mac is the best tool for the job that's fine, but I don't think choosing a product based on its perceived image (not limited to macs) is good, when it is not necessarily best suited to the purpose or environment.
  9. Don't do it unless you enjoy endless misery... I've never seen it work well at all, but those were the days of AD joined, folders (and user profiles) redirected and apple profile manager. Maybe it works better now with a proper MDM/Azure, (luckily) I wouldn't know. But seriously, the head wanting Macs as a 'Statement' is imo silly (but all too common focusing on image over substance), choose something that fits the need/works best not something just because its a fancy brand. Or just buy them and install windows on them, or even better chrome flex A compromise if I ever saw one.
  10. Do they all have their own ethernet connection, or are some daisy chained using rs485?
  11. Sounds like a mess, but not an uncommon occurrence, I've seen site staff do this before where they go down to Screwfix and buy the DIY DVRs/cameras and throw them up in the celling voids. You say he is friends with the auditor, if I was being skeptical I might think he doesn't like not having access to your cameras and so has asked him to bung it in the report so he can get access, but I'm sure that's not the case. I do think its reasonable for him to have access, but not reasonable for only him to have access to the other NVR's. I assume he did a privacy impact assessment for all the of cameras he installed? Are they on your network? If so do they have internet access? Are they receiving regular firmware updates? The proper solution is what you have already suggested, replacing all the DIY systems with either more Axis cameras/NVR's or a new system of common manufacturer. If you wanted to try and come to an amicable solution, could you try to work together on installing a new central system, the installation is usually the most expensive part so if you both could run the cables and mount the cameras, you only have the hardware to purchase which would bring the cost down, as well as achieving the central system, equal shared access and secure and safe location of the NVR's?

  13. Redstor's new education offering I've found is very cost effective as it's based on student numbers. It includes unlimited cloud backup of onsite servers/workstations, O365 and Google Workspace.
  14. We use Filter and its based on student numbers.
  15. I find Securly very good, partnered with a Fortigate firewall.
  16. I'm afraid not, I cheated and gave them the guest wifi DNS servers instead which got them working again. It doesn't matter as its overruled anyway by the correct policy from the browser extension.
  17. Are there any good ones? Or only okay/could be worse/better the devil you know ones?
  18. This is quite interesting, if you have a spare 15 minutes BBC Radio 4 - Superhead - Episode guide
  19. Is anyone having certain youtube videos (mostly music) not loading either (circle just spinning) - this one for example -
  20. Do they not fall apart anymore like they used to? The NT310 was the stuff of nightmares.
  21. If you don't need all the fancy features I use one of these for basic testing/tracing, works well. https://cpc.farnell.com/tenma/72-2665/network-cable-testertracker/dp/IN07348
  22. FortiWLC-200D & Fortinet AP822i WAP's for new wireless network (edugeek.net) There are some other threads too, one here from a few months ago - Fortinet FortiAP 231G Connected Classroom problems (edugeek.net) No idea on the firmware I'm afraid, I wasn't involved in the deployment (thankfully). They just kept trying different versions from memory until one made it work just well enough to prevent it being ripped out (which it was a few years later).
  23. Experienced first hand no end of issues with FN waps, devices coming up with 'Can't connect to this network'. If getting rid isn't an option try and find a firmware version that isn't too terrible and stick with it. EDIT - Just looked up a post I made about this issue back in 2018! Looks like its not changed much. Not sure why people keep buying it, its not as if its cheap...
  24. We have three LapSafe laptop trollies that are no longer needed and a 16 bay Loxit iPad trolley. Two of the LapSafe trollies are 15 bay and one is 20 bay. One of the 15 bay's has one damaged socket. There is key for one of the 15 bays but the others have no keys (I believe you can order them from Lapsafe) The iPad trolley has 16 bays and 16 x 13A sockets. This has a key lock (and two keys) and also an additional code lock has been added (could be removed). Looking for £50 each and collection is available from Middleton, Greater Manchester.
