We currently have the following message when people try to use an unsecure password- 'Unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password doesn’t meet the length, complexity or history requirements of the domain." I'm sure I've seen elsewhere the following message - "Your password must be at least8 characters; cannot repeat any of your previous 5 passwords; must contain capitals, numerals or punctuation; and cannot contain your account or full name. Please type a different password. Type a password which meets these requirements in both text boxes." Is anyone aware of how to get this message to show instead (if possible?) in the hope it will cause less confusion to some staff. Thanks!

I've achieved a similar thing here for music/announcements around the school by running a length of cat5 from the edge cabs in each block back to the server room and using a pair of audio over cat5 adapters to distribute the line level audio. In each cab they then connect to a 100V line amplifier and then in turn feed a string of daisy chained 100v speakers. There's a mixer in the server room that all the amps are fed from and the audio feed and SIP tannoy adapter connect to.

You can view the status of the extensions/trunks on the 'Asterisk info' page, under the 'Reports' tab, then click ‘Peers' Are the computers running the softphones on the same subnet/VLAN as the FreePBX server? If they are on different subnets/VLANs you need to add each subnet/VLAN in 'General SIP Settings' under 'Local Networks'. In order to use the 79xx and 69xx phones you need to flash them with the SIP firmware (available from the cisco website I think) and push out an XML configuration file which contains most of the phones settings (importantly server IP, phone extension/password). They also need a dialplan.xml which tells the phone when to process dialled numbers. The easiest way of doing this is to put the SIP firmware files and XML config files in a folder on a PC/Server and setup a TFTP server program (such as Pumpkin) pointing to this folder. Then use DHCP option 66 and enter the IP of the machine with the TFTP server on, in 'String Value', then when the phone boots assuming all the files are present and correct the phone will download them, reboot in SIP mode and register to the PBX. You may already be using option 66 for pointing machines to WDS so ideally setup a new VLAN for voice, and set the option to the tftp server just on that vlan scope.

You can connect the NC and C connectors on a monitored maglock into the contact input on the Net2 controller (4th & 5th terminals from the bottom on the right). You can then set it in the software to send an alert or even sound a siren if you have wired one into the controller. I havn't done this myself as the contacts on the maglocks seem to fail quite quickly (many of ours stay green even when the door is closed).

I have two of the EAP 115's at home and I'm impressed with them, considering how cheap they are. They support 802.3af which is nice. I haven't used the software I just configured them individually via the gui. I actually installed one in at work not long ago in a isolated building that needed wireless for a couple of laptops and its working well.

We have the DS‐2CD2125FWD‐I in all our indoor locations (apart from some old QVIS cameras) and are very pleased with them. The wide-angle lens gives brilliant coverage and the image quality is spot on. I would say they are vandal proof, but you can see the lens through the dome.

Yeah I would think that 700w would be more than adequate. Out of intrest how are you finding the sangoma pbx? Is it the PBXact you have or just the freepbx?

We recently had a fortinet wireless system installed (not my choice!) and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Constant problems since it was installed and still going on. Devices loose wireless connection for no apparent reason, then wont reconnect, some laptops and devices refused to connect full stop however all were happy to work with the Merika AP I have and all used to work perfectly on our old cisco aironet wireless. Fortinet were no help they said it was our equipment that was outdated and incompatible. Firmware seems to be at the root of the problem in my opinion. I’d put it all in the bin if I could.

Turns out the filter option only shows when an admin is logged in. So I have made all staff admins and removed all other permissions except for pause/release and now the filter option is showing which is perfect!

That looks perfect! However, there doesn't seem to be that option on our release page: Do you know if it's an option somewhere to display it?

I have installed the trial version of Papervut NG on a new VM and installed a few printers and enabled hold/release on them. I have imported staff and student groups and set the staff group to be allowed to release any job (charged to their account). The idea is, students send their work to print and which ever teacher releases the job it gets charged to their department. At the moment all jobs are sent to the main 'Jobs pending release' page on the GUI and all jobs from all printers show for all teachers. I'm wondering if there is a way to create separate queues for different printers, so teachers can select the printer of the room they are in and see just the jobs for that printer as its getting a little confusing as we have about 15 printers on the go. Or any advise on how you make it work would be great! Thanks

Freepbx user here, setup about a year ago all running smoothly with cisco spa 504g handsets. Reception have the sidecar accessory that provides 32 busy lamp field keys. They don't appear to be the phone of choice when it comes to freepbx (or 3cx for that matter) but they work perfectly well and do everything needed and I have a supplier we get them from refurbished for £30 each. I was very familiar with freepbx when I set this up so if you don't have any experience you may be better with 3cx and a partner although saying that you can get support from Voipon if you need it. If you currently have analogue or ISDN lines you'll either need to move over to SIP trunks or get a gateway - we used to use a sangoma gateway for our ISDN lines untill we went SIP.

Did you get to the bottom of this? We had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the 'SIP Session Helper' on our firewall causing the problem, once it was disabled it worked fine.

Okay, bit of an update! Got the door controller installed and working! Wiring was very straight forward; the hardest part is drilling and running cables to make it all look neat. Not much more to say really, it just works. I've put my wiring diagram below if anyone is interested, I've added a local siren connected to the NO terminal on the emergency switch so if it is pressed the alarm goes off. This is so in the case it is pressed maliciously it both to draws attention to the fact it's been pressed and hopefully gives who ever pressed it a fright so they won’t do it again. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, it was a real help.

It worked out at just about £280 for one door (controller & reader). The USB reader & 10 cards to test with was another £80. We already have a different system installed at the moment so the actual mag locks and release buttons are already in place so it should just be a matter of removing the existing control panel & reader and connecting up the Paxton stuff. I'll report back with feedback on the installation after we've done it (which is hopefully this week!).

Was gonna go for the pro version anyway for timesheets so thats okay, had a look today and all our current mag lock doors have a fire relay next to each pannel, so hopefully can use them as I wouldn't want to rely on the network/software to open the doors in an emergency. They are the same relay on every door as shown below. I'll get the alarm company in to connct them up though I think. If using the contact input on the paxton would the wiring go like this? Cheers!

That's a useful diagram, thanks! I was reading you can also connect the fire relay to an input on the net2 and configure it in the software as a fire alarm trigger. Has anyone done it this way?

Thanks everyone, I feel confident enough now to give this a try on one door, I contacted 'loving paxton' who was very helpful and got the first round of hardware ordered. Also having played around with the free version of Net2 it looks a great piece of software and very easy to use! I'll update on progress.
