  1. I've had a couple of servers off them over the years - basically super micro stuff, but have no qualms using them. JB.
  2. One from last night. Pre Storm Doris 2 Feb 17. Penzance Promenade. by cornishlens.co.uk, on Flickr JB.
  3. Nothing to do with the company, but they came up during our look around for lone worker solutions; https://www.staysafeapp.com/ also the other option is to contract out as a service to something like Lone Worker Solutions | Cost-Effective 24-Hour Service We use something similar to this for our lone worker alarms which go through to a 24hr call centre (which then has a flowchart of contacts we have given them). JB.
  4. I suspect you may have already read this, but for those who haven't this is a useful place to start; https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-reform/overview-of-the-gdpr/ JB.
  5. I live and work in Penzance - the town centre itself has seen better days, but there's loads around to see and do such as beaches, coastal path walks, historical mining visits, St Michael's Mount. Also pasties and scones. #jamfirst. JB.
  6. Bagged this one a few days ago. 0Q5A0421 JB Edit by Jaysan Bunoomally, on Flickr JB.
  7. This ACM article is from 2012, but gives a good technical introduction. JB.
  8. My kit bag. Strapped on the sides out of shot are a tripod and a walkstool. JB.
  9. Agree ref annoying when someone accepts and then retracts - had that one a few times too! Also agree ref having a backup (that is used when the preferred candidate doesn't take up the offer), but the difficulty can arise when information is given that should have really been considered by the panel before making an offer. I guess this may be a subjective matter, but in my experience, this is how we do it (and how i prefer it!). JB.
  10. I have to say, i would be a bit annoyed that this wasn't bought up at interview, that they had a specific requirement around the working hours - especially after being given the opportunity to do so. After having spent considerable time interviewing and panel debating as to who should be offered the job. I prefer discussing queries about place on pay scale and hours during the process, as it can help the panel make the decision; i.e; split the job into 2 part time roles, etc. JB.
  11. At the end of the formal panel interview, we always ask "is there anything you'd like to ask us that we haven't covered so far"; this is when i'd expect that sort of conversation to happen. JB.
  12. Bagged this one a couple of days ago. JB.
  13. Another St. Michael's Mount shot from me, but with the milky way this time - taken last night/this morning. JB.
  14. One of mine from the other night. JB.
  15. Probably the same as what was covered here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/139488-close-call.html#post1200315 JB.
  16. Slight tangent to the technical side; but are you different Data Controllers/is this data sharing within the scope of your privacy notice? Do you have a data sharing agreement and vetting of who will access the data from where and how to maintain CIA principles? JB.
  17. PM'd. JB.
  18. Hi, We use a 3800 running V9, we also use EE for our staff mobiles and have no problems calling them (unless i've just jinxed it. . . . !). JB.
  19. I've just had a call from the Grid this morning clarifying that the stats are collected directly from the router and not at the other end at SN(+), which is good news. However, after having a look at the new monitoring system, it is not as granular as the old Cacti system (i.e. cannot view unicast traffic stats etc.) and you are limited to viewing 1 weeks worth of historic data. Cacti offered the ability to chart 2 years worth of stats and was very useful in identifying trends - they did say that if we wanted information we could ring up and log a call and they could investigate, but in my opinion this turns what should be a 5 minute job for me to look up into a faff because i will have to log a call and explain what i'm trying to do and then await a reply (which may not contain the information i want and have to ring up again) - i have suggested to the Grid that it is worth replacing the ability to view at least 1 years worth, but would say that this is more likely to be listened to if more of us request it. JB.
  20. Thanks - am aware we have SN+ licensing for users which may not go through our LS appliance. What i'm asking is whether the new system will show the data that goes through the SN+ as well as the transparent upstream as used by our onsite Rocket appliance? JB.
  21. What stats will schools who use their own onsite appliance see (who don't use safetynet upstream)? JB.
  22. And what happens when the secured cloud stored files are opened on an unsecured (or even worse, compromised) home computer, where it stores a working copy of the file in local temp that can be recovered? I would think about the entire workflow re sharing, viewing, editing, storing, backing up, etc. and IL2/3 data and how you are complying with the DPA and any foreseeable risk. JB.
  23. Pfft - South!! I'm in Penzance. Pasty anyone? JB.
  24. There never was any actual statutory requirement - it was only ever a "ministerial expectation". JB.
