Thank you for showing me that. It's nice to know other people have looked and had the same sort of issues. Having to manage iPads in an educational environment can be a complete nightmare.

It's been two years of wishful thinking on being able to hide that Settings icon. I've only recently started using DEP with the iPads. I love the fact I don't need an account to be assigned to them. As for looking the profile with a password, I've yet to find that option in Meraki.

I look after well over 300 iPads now. All different models and across a large site. 200 are managed by Apple Config 2 and Meraki. The rest I'm attempting to manage through ASM so I don't have to have accounts set up for any of them. The consistent problem I've got no matter which MDM I've tried, is that I am unable to hide the 'Settings' app. Does anyone know if this is possible? If you try and hide it then all the settings you have push to the iPad then go and nothing is restricted. Yet if you leave it people attempt to attach them to their own Hotspots or remove the profile and restrictions. Possibly driving me crazy trying to get an answer for this.

I've put the order number for my iPads in Apple School Manager and all 15 have appeared in my Meraki account under DEP. I've created a profile but can't seem to assign it to DEP iPads. Only those that are in the client list and none of them went in there. I've managed to restrict the process so a brand new iPad should prompt for wifi and then configure itself and instead it's prompting Apple ID. Isn't the whole point of this to not have Apple ID's with iPads? Some forums say you have to go into restrictions in the profile and change the "allow user to modify settings" but if the profile wont link to the DEP iPads via a tag then I have no idea what's going on. Can anyone help please

Yes they are kept in a safe location so I could make this part of the process when swapping them across or over.

I probably am over thinking this. Some of our old PC images are on Fog and the newer are on WDS. Each time we swap a hard drive out we will reimage the machine and add it to AD. The difficulty comes from when you swap a teacher laptop out for a newer model. We tend to keep their old hard drive aside for three months just in case they are missing a file. It's just getting feelers out there really for how I would do it. Swapping hard drives in such a large computer based area is going to get messy but if AD could locate a hard drive by it's SN or MAC then I could never worry about losing a key as I could just reset it in AD.

The issue I have with that is I work in a school. Teachers are notorious for losing USB sticks. It's their thing lol. Having a small pen drive sticking out the laptop puts BitLocker out there as pointless. We have over 2000 machines on the site and hard drives are refreshed or swapped out all the time. I'm wondering if linking it to AD would make everything messy and hard to keep track of.

I'm looking to set up BitLocker and link it to AD but I've found several documents online all stating different things. I was hoping somewhere could bring to light some key facts. First of all can you remove the fact the user has to enter a password to get into their laptop? Second: If BitLocker links to AD does the password key link to the laptop and desktop name? Because I am in an enviroment where hard drives and SSD's are swapped in and out, I'm trying to figure how AD would link the key to the machine?

Tried that. It still wont let you access the account. I've even spent three days on calls with Apple who can't figure out their end why the accounts are disabled. What's worse is they say they are activated and therefor can't 'reactivate'.

Bit of a complicated one to explain but I work in education where we have over 200 iPads on one site. Each iPad managed through Meraki has an iTunes account so I can deploy apps accordingly. Last Feb I had 30 iPads brought back to me as messages kept coming up saying "iPad has been disabled" This was mainly appearing when doing to update or download apps. It caused a lot of problems to the extent I spent a long time on the phone with Apple trying to get 30 iPad accounts reactivated. Apple claim that either the iTunes account or my VPP account have problems but it's nothing to do with them. In the end and after many phone calls I decided to come up with a new naming standard and recreate all 30 accounts with new iTunes accounts. It's been working and brilliant until one of the newly imaged iPads has appeared on my desk with the same error happening. Apple tell me the accounts are fine, Meraki is fine, new accounts work all okay. I can't seem to think of anything someone could do on an iPad account to completely lock it down and prevent apple themselves from reactivating it.

Hi Dave, I'm looking at implementing Apple Classroom across nearly 200 iPads in and trying to manage it all through Meraki. So far not having much luck. Did you ever come back to the issue and resolve it?

We've configured it to dish IP's out so that all the Pi's will be able to get on the internet. The problem is this is putting essenially two DHCP's on our network. So the Pi Net server might be throwing out IP's to classroom Windows machines and randomly breaking things. We need the Pi Server to take a bunch of IP's and give them directly to the Pi's without causing a conflict.

Okay so but of a noob to all of this so please bare this in mind. The ICT department of the school I work at has requested Raspberry Pi. What they want is a Pi Net server PC built and in the corner of their department. It will dish out an IP address and an operating system over the internet and students can do projects. This wants to be done so that when a Pi is turned off it will lose all the data and reset as if brand new ready for the next student. Working from operating systems on SD cards would be too hard to keep track of. This being said if the Pi Net server is configured to dish out IP's, I'm concerned that it will dish them out all over the school so I'm trying to think of a way to contain the IP's and Pi. Am I asking for the impossible?

I'm not an Apple buff either but I've managed to work managing over 100 in a school and stopping students from doing annoying things so far. I'd be more than happy to help you set up or go through things. Here, I tried to look after 70 iPads for all different departments. Meraki is brilliant for the fact you can set departments, like English, History, PE and all that. You can then lock down different parts of the iPad through it. The History department here don't want the camera enabled but the PE department do. When you disable and lock down the settings in iCloud no one can enter their email address or change anything. If they head to the app store and want to download anything it prompts for a password that only I know. Genius!

If you use Meraki to disable their modify their account settings then iCloud becomes inactive. None of the students at my school can change the email addresses on the iPad's. I've completely locked them down. They can't even edit the wallpaper or set a passcode lol.

I've tried everything I can to get Apple Config 2 working but it's not being friendly, topped with the fact I manage all my iPads with Meraki which doesn't support Apple Config 2. How I got around it was using config 1 again. It still supports the newer OS that's out which is amazing.

Probably not helpful but I don't use Apple Config to lock everything down. I use Meraki to manage my iPad's and there is an option to stop students from changing the background and adding a passcode? You can even stop them from modifying user account settings and take away the camera if you want. It's just an option should you not want to mess with your profile.

Thanks for replying. I use multiple xml files to deploy to different classrooms and machines. The machine is in the correct place in AD and also not in any other scripts of WPKG. One of the techs who used to use it said it was a common problem with WPKG and no one has ever solved why it does it. I thought I'd give it a go but all I can figure is that in order to get over this problem I would have to reassign a different name to it which would mess around with the asset database. It has to be storing memory somewhere on the machines. *frowns*

Yes I'm changing them in the host file. For some reason it's still remembering what it's previously been assigned, printer or software wise. It's highly strange but I've been told this has been a problem with WPKG for a while. I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. There as to be something that remembers the name of the computer. We label ours to a huge asset database. I don't want to get into the habit of having to rename PC's for WPKG to work if I can help it.

We use WPKG to assign the software and printers to the computers in a large school. The issue I'm having is for example: If I take a teacher PC from the art department, re-image, add to domain and change the scripts and change it to be a student PC in History. WPKG Regardless of the scripts being changed and the fact the PC has been re-imaged. It's still remembering where it was previously and downloading the old printers and old software. Is this a common problem? Has anyone else had it? I'm wondering if WPKG is cacheing memory somewhere? Help

Have had to do the update. I've got two macs which are used to config nearly 200 iPads. I set everything up and it was working brilliantly until the new OS update and the config update. Now none of my iPads will going through config and I'm not even sure where we assign the iPad's name/details. Anyone else having problems?

Thanks eean. Have already spoken to them about a bulk purchase order as we have over 2000 laptops at this school. Ideally I wanted a cost free answer but from trailing Reflector I think it's worth every penny. I'm going to now look into Presto to give them the ability to print.

I tried to download Air Server and give it a go but the system requirements are Windows 8.1. Currently all school computers are on 7
