You should be ok as long as you have BBC iplayer blocked in the internet filters. Would be really bad if they ask to see your logs and someone had been watching live BBC broadcasts. Can you block iplayer live streams without blocking the ok content?

You are not the only one and I have dyslexia. My sample size is way too small but it seems as many people find it painful as prefer it.

Just this weekend a friend commented if it wasn’t for his smartphone he wouldn’t get half his writing done. Another person commented they are thinking about replacing desktops with tablets/smartphones and docking stations for a screen and keyboard. With wireless airplay screens are not a problem all you need is a decent dock keyboard. Every day I see smartphones replacing what people do on computers. With phone and tablet docking stations we are getting to the stage where desktops are not needed or should that be needed much less. A group of people now write more and use the web more on their mobile device then their own desktop and this group is getting bigger. EDIT: For useing tablets at work I asked about domain/management support and they said as of an update a few weeks ago its pretty good now. Although I have yet to see this working and still feel its a little early to go down this route.

The only thing I do not like about Win7 are the slow log in speeds. XP logs in well under 20seconds often under 10seconds if it’s the 2nd time logging in. Win7 takes minuets even on better hardware.

Not looked at ABTutor 7 yet but the only con I came across for ABTutor 6 is you cannot have different lists. I cannot have a view all list and a view ban list open at teh same time. Well you can but you need 1 PC or virtualized PC and 1 server for each list, no idea if version 7 fixes that. Still I really like ABTutor and plan to take a look at version 7.

It’s hard to say without knowing the pattern of beeping. Could it be you keep losing power for short amounts of time? Do any of the lights change when beeping happens? Check no power cables have come lose. How old is the unit?

Why have they used such and outdated slow Soc? Tegra is a real offput for the RT tablet. The Pro oen looks nice as long as its not to costly.

Perhaps we should start a new thread for this? First of all the market is not tiny anymore, are you aware Q4 2011 the tablet market was around the same size as the desktop market in sales? The Smartphones market in Q4 was x5 bigger then desktops. The Desktops market shrank 3.6% only laptops increased in sales. A largeamount of people have moved away from desktops towards smartphones and tablets. I think it is fair to say a lot of MS market has been stolen. I just need to look locally to see places move away from MS. On Sundays I meet with friends and we used to use MS now everything has completely moved to smartphones and tablets. “Have Apple or Google taken over the OS market for producitivity, or productivity suites, or servers? No on all accounts. Sure, Google Apps has nibbled a few bits here and there but you find me a big business which doesn't use Office on Windows...” They might not have overtaken but they took away a noticeable chunk. What used to be pretty much 100% MS is no longer and I see this trend to get worse against MS with Windows 8.

I am not sure it is overselling it a bit. Things are changing tablets and smartphones both individually outsell desktops and most tablets are apple. We are already at a stage where more new devices are Apple over Intel/Microsoft and it looks like not only will the trend continues but it is predicted to increase towards Apple favour. EDITED out last bit as its wrong EDIT2: Looking at the numbers it looks like Intel/Microsoft devices increased in sales by around 3.7% for 2011 while Apple devices increased by around 200% to 300% in the same timeframe. Add in google devices to that and Apple +Google are a major part of the market now.

We no longer use life Channel. As we mostly used our own videos I figured running VLC on an old PC would be a more cost effective solution. I would estimate we ran 95% our content, 5% them. There is a limit but it’s not that bad, at the end of your play list one of life channels videos plays but you can make your playlist as long as you like and have more than 1 playlist. We had two playlist each around 7 hours and randomised. 1 random life channel video played between playlists and a few selected life videos within the playlist.

Any way we can get a higher res version of that? Would make nice wallpaper.

It does not cover the start menu, it only covers the search within the start menu. I cannot see where it says people use search more over the start menu. That chart is only in the context of what the search button is used for. Most people do not use search but of those that do 67% use it for programs. Which is not the same as saying search is used to load 67% of programs on a computer which is what a lot of websites seem to be reporting after reading that link

Unless I misread it that is not what it says. Most people use control panel items or files. That stat is very misleading as just because searches are used to lunch programs it does not mean that’s the main way or only way people prefer. Take myself I must have done around 100 searches a year with around 67 of those searches to launch programs so I fit in around 67% of searches. But I must have launched over 1000’s of programs via icons or start menu which is my preferred way. In my experience 60% ish of searches are used to lunch programs but searches are used under 1% of the time to lunch programs. EDIT: To simplify they only used the usage data look at how search is used. Not a comparison of usage data for how programs are lunched outside search.

We ran into a lot of problems with a mixed set of 64-bit/32-bit Epson drivers. Just running one or the other worked but the 64-bit server was not happy about pushing out 32-bit drivers.

We used them once a few years back for Smoothwall . No real complaints just not had any reason to go back there recently as we no longer use Smoothwall.

I had no problem with the superhub once I turned wireless off.

The apps alone make the Ipad the better choice. It’s not the SEN apps but the children’s apps like letter formation. But I would suggest they have tried and have some apps in mind before getting any tablets. As a cheaper option I would suggest perhaps Ipad1’s which should run the apps fine. Perhaps Ipad2 but I see no reason to justify the cost of Ipad3’s.

I wonder if they realised they cannot compete at the high end and to a lesser extent the mid end, so have covered that fact by moving Tegra 3 into the low end. It’s a shame as if not for the weak GPU Tegra would be a decent chip. All these tablets moving to super high res must be a real problem for Tegra. Which is really surpassing as you would expect a graphics company’ to have decent graphics and average to low CPU. Not poor graphics and great CPU.

All we have is the not so rare pen monster that often likes a side snack off pencils.

Depending on what you need this might work. Set the local login to match a username and password of the domain user. We do this with our staff laptops then use mapped drives to parts of the network and virus checker updates from the server as though its on the domain. Sometimes with windows 7 renameding a profile doesn’t work and you have to make a fresh profile matching the domain user .

Wasn’t that one explained when they said the virus brings out the basic primal instincts which are to feed or some such, or am I thinking of another zombie show? Like you I often think surly a Zombie would only last a few weeks max before its harmless due to lack of energy/muscle waste away. At this point in the show walkers should be pretty rare.

That’s a common misconception and shows how bad the ending was. No one was dead for the most part. The end takes place years in the future when they all meat up in the afterlife/limbo area to move on together. So they are all dead at the end but the time spent on the Island was very much with them alive. Lost has one of the worst endings ever with nothing explained.

Should we support them after the lack for support we had from them over Job evolution? A lot of support staff both IT and TA’s have lost of lot of wage and on the whole the teachers did not care or support us. What’s the betting now it affects them they want us to support them?

Pandora Recovery, Recuva and other programs all said there was zero files to recover or could only find a small selection of the deleted files. Just had another laptop today and again it found files when other programs said there was zero doc's deleted. (although to be fair to Recuva it too found the docs just had the file names missing)
