  1. Hi the virtual server started as 2 CPU and 8GB RAM, just to see what happened I increased the number of CPUs and the RAM assigned to the guest. The same results, immediate high CPU utilisation. Its almost as if the process wants to grab as much resource as possible. As for users, testing today, it was just myself. When they have a class running there may be 8 or 9 users. That is when it really starts to lag.
  2. Hi, Just wondering if anyone is running Kodu on a remote desktop server. We were asked to set it up over the summer and it did work, however this term we are receiving reports that it runs too slowly. Each time it starts up the process immediately jumps to >60% utilisation for the kodu process. If I give the server more resource (2012r2 guest on Hyper-V) we get the same result with regards to system processes. cheeers Ed
  3. So, completed the upgrade all went well. Just testing, some VPNs can still get through with no problems, others are blocked. Anyone else getting mixed results with this ?
  4. Hi, Been going over the reporting in Lightspeed, it looks ok but if I want to generate reports with very specific data it appears to be lacking. Some of the reports cant include all of the data that is required, to get round this it looks like its several reports all generated as a csv file then do the fine tuning in Excel. I've also found that in some of the activity reports, when exported to .csv the clock format changes form a 12 hour clock to a 24 hour clock... How do others find the reporting in Lightspeed ? We used to use Smoothwall, which I found to be a lot better than Lightspeed in terms of reporting.
  5. Upgrading my Lightspeed box next week, so should have this feature then. Think initially I'll be setting the ban value to 0 so that it just reports at first. This should then just generate reports so we can see where we go from there.
  6. Make sure that the apps that your are pushing out have been purchased (even the free ones) if not you will need to be signed in to the iPads using an Apple ID. If you look at the Apps they should have MD next to them. I had to purchase all of our free ones at £0.00 to push them all out via managed distribution
  7. I've also found that you need to have the search domain in the DNS settings especially if your Windows domain has .local at the end of it. Macs really do not like domains with .local as in OSX can try to reference the local machine rather than the domain. Once I added domain_name.local to my DNS settings on our Macs the home drives started to work again
  8. If you have a spare PC try pfsense its an open source firewall and can do filtering as well.. plus its free
  9. We use two methods, a mobile print setup where you email the document from the iPad (or other device) to the print servers and a portal where you goto a web page, select the file and submit it for printing. Just have to go and collect from the printer (all users have to enter a pin to get their print outs)
  10. The main problem you will find with One drive in a domain environment is that if individuals are not assigned a PC of their own and wish to use the One drive application to sync you could be in a position where you have a large increase in your network traffic. If you are using roaming profiles then MS recommend not using the One drive app. I would go down the route of using the web interface only/sharepoint type setup. This way they can still access all of their files etc but only have to download those that they need.
  11. Check your search domain in DNS, you need to put your xxxx.local in there if your domain is .local rather than anything else. We also found that setting the speed of the NIC helped out as well
  12. Hi, We currently use Meraki for our MDM solution and have just over 100 iPads enrolled (70 of which are classroom sets). We are seeing problems with the Meraki solution on a regular basis where Apps do not roll out or disappear (totally random on each device). We are looking to move away from Meraki to an alternate MDM solution, does anyone have an recommendations ? I'm currently looking at Lightspeed and Casper. Thanks Ed
