  1. yes but no but.... Proper P8 is calculated after the event using the DfE's A8 data. But BEFORE the national results are all in and collated we're all guessing. oh and to stay completely on-topic, used both, 4matrix was superior for presentation of data, it had some really cool features, but SISRA wins for ease of use and flexibility the calculation of P8 is really super easy - but the A8 estimate you use is whatever you choose to use, sisra/4 matrix/me with my excel spreadsheet can all get different P8 values for the same student.
  2. Removing permissions from online reports enables SIMS users to make online reports unavailable without deleting them from the SharePoint server. For example, if a published report was incorrect, removing all permissions would make the report unavailable and set the permissions in SIMS to False but does not delete the report from the SharePoint server. A corrected report could be published later and the permissions in SIMS would be updated to True. Deleting the report on the SharePoint server would not update SIMS in this way. In SIMS, select Routines | SLG | Publish Documents to display the Search for Documents to Publish to SLG browser. Select the search criteria for the reports from which you wish to remove permissions then click the Search button to populate the Documents panel. Select the tick box next to each student whose report you wish to make unavailable, or click the Select All button to select all the reports for every student. Click the Publish Selected button to display the Publish Documents to SLG dialog. Select the format that the report was originally published in from the Format drop-down list. Ensure the check-boxes for the roles that should no longer have access to the selected online reports are not selected. All other fields should be left blank. Click the OK button to display a progress bar as the permissions are updated. When the permissions have been successfully updated, the Conversion dialog is displayed. Click the OK button to complete the permissions update. -taken straight from the contextual help on the publish slg/sims online page
  3. Hi, I've done all 3 of those things and #3 is the easiest way to test your theories. 1. yes it's a direct replacement 2. yes you can 3. I just asked some legit parents if i could be added as a 2nd or 3rd parental contact on their children for testing. It helps that one is a staff member and one is a personal friend... either way you aren't getting access to anything you don't already have access to.
  4. Since the CME agenda got really prominent it's been a bit more work to remove students from roll in this situation. Provided you've done due diligence and found out where the student has gone then you can delete them (only for students that have never set foot in the school of course!) In the old days these students were commonly just deleted a few weeks into september but that's now a bit of a no-no.
  5. in "Edit marks" there's a pre-built filter button for students with ANY "N" codes today - this will be your starting point for flagging up any kids going missing.
  6. Since sometime in the early 2000s there's been the "rarely cover" rule. So if you flipped it around and gave staff NCCs when they AREN'T free for cover you'd have your priority cover people showing up straight away.
  7. Hi Dawn The logins are indeed stored in the old master database. The transfer logins needs to be done before the dettach as it transfers the logins into the sims db (from what i remember). There's some really good threads on it here on edugeek. As to item 1, you can block incoming connections then reboot the server, that'll kick em out and keep em out. 4. it's 50/50, not every bit of SQL training helps with the way SIMS is set up and the oddities like the transfer logins bit are learnt from bitter experience.
  8. but XPoD is so much nicer - it's got a webportal and everything!
  9. Aside from the romance going on in this thread there's only 1 question I've got. Can I remove one of our exporters in the near future? One less would be a vast improvement - my SIMS server is filled with the little bug**rs!!!
  10. but the App is quite easy to use once you've got it.
  11. you've got to remove them as a student. This might require a custom patch from your support provider (ultimately Capita) as my method for doing this would have been to delete them.....
  12. In Focus > School > Academic Structure > Curriculum Assignment by scheme, you can open a scheme and then dump out the current contents (student vs class) into an SLK using the "Allocate" button and then export. This does indeed produce an excel readable file - don't mess with anything other than the class indicator tick (or whatever symbol it uses). you won't need server access for this, just the relevant user permissions within SIMS.
  13. can you dump out a load of SLK files just to be safe?
  14. It's actually pretty slick and works well enough that we got 240 kids through it. I'm not one for praising Crapita's work but sometimes they get it mostly right. The world's probably gonna end now.....
  15. options online is a possibility for you?
  16. Exams Organiser, Options and Nova-T6 are all still current (as far as Capita is concerned....) and the relevant people should have access to them. Exams Organiser is Windows 3.11 era!
  17. haven't used 4matrix in a while but their tech support was normally good, have you not had a response from them?
  18. Over on Capita forums someone got a response from the DfE saying it was their end and they are working on it.
  19. I used to think the same as your HR dept, but it's wrong. ALL staff with service agreements OR contracts need an employment start date. It simply makes their record active - it doesn't cause issues in CENSUS as they go by either a contract or a service agreement.
  20. just whack a note on collect?
  21. don't you map all this within their web interface?
  22. Are they 100% sure the user hasn't just suffered from the text to columns bug? You know, the one that keeps applying it to new files unless you completely close Excel after using it.
  23. You haven't dealt with them directly recently Matt? One team don't have the foggiest what another team is working on. Getting help with the online stuff is an exercise in futility - teach yourself or don't use it The only ray of hope is that they actually work pretty well once you've got your head around how to set them up.
  24. Step 4 - get a new support contract with a 3rd party support provider
  25. naughty naughty...... we're still not allowed to do this are we?
