  1. Here you go! http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start1.jpg http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start2.jpg Ta!
  2. Can do!
  3. Yeah, Here is my path \\server\redirection$\startmenu\Programs
  4. I am in process of having a go a Start Menu redirection. Now I have managed to get the start menu redirected. I have created a hidden share with permissions to let everyone have read only access. The redirection works, but I have a problem. The Start Menu is not only in programs, but also duplicated above programs where the windows update and windows catalogue short cuts are. Like this http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start.jpg Anyone have any ideas?
  5. Well I am afraid I think I might have to be defeated on this and call in some help from my LEA. I am just stuck!
  6. ok You can enable verbose logging by going to in to your workstation GPO. Then go Administrative Templates / System / Verbose vs Normal messages. Set this to enable. You will now see when users logon they will get more messages in the loading personal settings box etc. Plus your log files will be far more detailed. I have a similar problem but I have machines that hang when applying personal settings, but a reboot usually clears it. Hope that helps
  7. Ok, The two current server names are mmserver & mmserver-1. The previous server was a 2k server called mmserver. The server with the problem and hosting DHCP and DNS is mmserver-1. I looked in sites and services and there are only 2 connections. 1 for each server listed above. I ran the ipconfig /registerdns as you said on each DC and the DC with the problems gave this error in the DNS event log 6702 Event Type: Error Event Source: DNS Event Category: None Event ID: 6702 Date: 02/02/2009 Time: 13:26:21 User: N/A Computer: MMSERVER-1 Description: DNS server has updated its own host (A) records. In order to ensure that its DS-integrated peer DNS servers are able to replicate with this server, an attempt was made to update them with the new records through dynamic update. An error was encountered during this update, the record data is the error code. If this DNS server does not have any DS-integrated peers, then this error should be ignored. If this DNS server's Active Directory replication partners do not have the correct IP address(es) for this server, they will be unable to replicate with it. To ensure proper replication: 1) Find this server's Active Directory replication partners that run the DNS server. 2) Open DnsManager and connect in turn to each of the replication partners. 3) On each server, check the host (A record) registration for THIS server. 4) Delete any A records that do NOT correspond to IP addresses of this server. 5) If there are no A records for this server, add at least one A record corresponding to an address on this server, that the replication partner can contact. (In other words, if there multiple IP addresses for this DNS server, add at least one that is on the same network as the Active Directory DNS server you are updating.) 6) Note, that is not necessary to update EVERY replication partner. It is only necessary that the records are fixed up on enough replication partners so that every server that replicates with this server will receive (through replication) the new data.
  8. Problems still exist even after plenty of fiddling, I am now in the position of either demoting the dc and then repromoting. Also looking at dns. I have to admit I do not know a huge amount about DNS. Also in my post above if I delete and recreate dns will the entries be repopulated or will I have to do that manually? I have redone DCDIAG and NETDIAG /fix. They report no problems. So I am not sure where to start. I have been looking around the net and the general consensus that the problem is DNS based. Any ideas?
  9. We currently use class, surname, initial. However I am going to change this over the summer. As we are having a nightmare when children change class. We will be going down the route of intake year, surname, initial. Then grouping the children in classes in the OU. We will be placing homedrives in one intake year folder. This will make my life much easier. Well I hope......
  10. I am going to try demoting the DC and repromoting it and see what happens. I will then have a go at rebuilding the DNS. If I delete the DNS and recreate it, will I have to populate the DNS entries manually? or what. As this is our only DNS server. I would like all of the information about this before I start the process. I don't want to get caught out at any point. Many Thanks

  12. have looked in the error logs and there are no entries under dns. So anyone have any ideas?
  13. Server with the problem is hosting DNS. I can't remember if there are any errors in the DNS logs. Will check tomorrow. Right, recreating DNS. I never thought about that. It would be a bit drastic. But it might be the answer. Any other ideas guys?
  14. The answer to your question is no, we did not have a previous DC called MMSERVER-1. We used to have a win2k server DC called MMSERVER. I have also tried the netdiag /fix and I get an error similar to the error from dcdiag.
  15. Hi, I have 2 windows server 2003 DC's on our domain. One of them is DNS, DHCP too. I have been having problems logging on using our windows xp clients. This would be when applying computer settings or just after. The logon will just hang there, no matter how long you leave it. I have enabled verbose logging and it would seem it is hanging when applying a gpo. I have also looked on google and it would seem that the problem is active directory or dns based. I have looked in DNS and everything seems fine (well as far as I can see) This leaves me with an active directory problem. I have been getting some replication errors now and then too. This afternoon I ran netdiag, dcdiag on both DC's. I have found this, one of the DC's is perfectly fine. The other comes up with a problem when you run dcdiag. Here is a example of the logs from both servers. Working DC © Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\admin> C:\Documents and Settings\admin>cd\ C:\>dcdiag /v Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: * Verifying that the local machine mmserver, is a DC. * Connecting to directory service on server mmserver. * Collecting site info. * Identifying all servers. * Identifying all NC cross-refs. * Found 2 DC(s). Testing 1 of them. Done gathering initial info. Doing initial required tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\MMSERVER Starting test: Connectivity * Active Directory LDAP Services Check * Active Directory RPC Services Check ......................... MMSERVER passed test Connectivity DC with problem Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: * Verifying that the local machine MMSERVER-1, is a DC. * Connecting to directory service on server MMSERVER-1. * Collecting site info. * Identifying all servers. * Identifying all NC cross-refs. * Found 2 DC(s). Testing 1 of them. Done gathering initial info. Doing initial required tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\MMSERVER-1 Starting test: Connectivity * Active Directory LDAP Services Check The host 0d3fd039-dc0f-4a37-bdef-9f568eceefc3._msdcs.monkseatonmiddle.n-tyneside.sch.uk could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc Although the Guid DNS name (0d3fd039-dc0f-4a37-bdef-9f568eceefc3._msdcs.monkseatonmiddle.n-tyneside.sch.uk) couldn't be resolved, the server name (MMSERVER-1.monkseatonmiddle.n-tyneside.sch.uk) resolved to the IP address (10.171.52.201) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is registered correctly with the DNS server. ......................... MMSERVER-1 failed test Connectivity Doing primary tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\MMSERVER-1 Skipping all tests, because server MMSERVER-1 is not responding to directory service requests Test omitted by user request: Topology Test omitted by user request: CutoffServers Test omitted by user request: OutboundSecureChannels Test omitted by user request: VerifyReplicas Test omitted by user request: VerifyEnterpriseReferences Test omitted by user request: CheckSecurityError After this all of the logs are the same. From this it would seem DC 2 has a Active Directory or DNS problem. I have tried pinging the problem DC with ip and machine name. Both results return the correct ip and machine name. This would suggest to me that DNS is fine, so the problem is Active Directory. But the problem is I am not sure what the problem is and where to start... CAN SOMEONE HELP!!
  16. Sounds like a decent plan. But I am snowed under with other things. Plus with the christmas period approaching the kids are going mental and the teachers want to just use the ICT suites as a rest. Put the kids in and play games. Might be a job for later in the year. It is not really a problem. I mean the kids and staff just refresh the homepage. But I am picky, I want it to work correctly!! so it is annoying me at the moment. But hey ho!!
  17. I will check tomorrow. Been having other problems that took priority. Anyway to answer your first question I am using the IE7 adm. As I have other settings configured through it. But will check all the info tomorrow.

    Auto log off

Yup indeed do a search. But to answer your question if they pull out the network cable the gpos are not applied. In some cases I have heard that this gives them local admin rights. Denon
  19. Hi, I am looking to write a formula to highlight childrens birthdays. Ie all of the children who have a birthday in Jan, Feb, Mar etc!! The dates are in DD/MM/YYYY format. I have spent some time looking around google and as yet have not come up with the answer. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
  20. Here's me. Not brave just stupid!! lol http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/me.jpg Think I was annoyed at my brother at the time!! I have requested to join th FB group too. This site has been sooo useful over the last few weeks. It's great!!
  21. I have changed it back to localhost and it has made no difference. Do you need to setup a DB in mysql? the instructions on the wiki does not give instructions on how to setup a db using SQLite. Maybe I am doing this all wrong. Forgive my stupidity. But help would be most appreciated.
  22. Can some one help me? I can just get this error http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/error.jpg Config file <?php if (!defined('BASEPATH')) exit('No direct script access allowed'); // Full URL to your installation $config['base_url'] = 'http://booking/crbs/'; // Empty string if using .htaccess #$config['index_page'] = 'index.php'; $config['index_page'] = ''; // You shouldn't need to change any of these. $config['layout'] = 'layout'; $config['language'] = 'english'; $config['uri_protocol'] = 'auto'; $config['url_suffix'] = 'http://booking/crbs/'; $config['enable_query_strings'] = FALSE; $config['controller_trigger'] = 'c'; $config['function_trigger'] = 'm'; $config['time_reference'] = 'local'; $config['log_threshold'] = 0; $config['log_path'] = ''; $config['log_date_format'] = 'Y-m-d H:i:s'; $config['cache_path'] = ''; $config['encryption_key'] = ''; $config['sess_cookie_name'] = 'ci_session'; $config['sess_expiration'] = 7200; $config['sess_encrypt_cookie'] = FALSE; $config['sess_use_database'] = FALSE; $config['sess_table_name'] = ''; $config['sess_match_ip'] = TRUE; $config['sess_match_useragent'] = TRUE; $config['cookie_prefix'] = ''; $config['cookie_domain'] = ''; $config['cookie_path'] = '/'; $config['global_xss_filtering'] = TRUE; $config['enable_hooks'] = False; $config['permitted_uri_chars'] = 'a-z 0-9~%.:_-'; $config['compress_output'] = FALSE; $config['subclass_prefix'] = 'MY_'; $config['rewrite_short_tags'] = FALSE; ?> Database File <?php if (!defined('BASEPATH')) exit('No direct script access allowed'); $active_group = "default"; $db['default']['hostname'] = 'booking'; $db['default']['username'] = 'ajones'; $db['default']['password'] = 'password'; $db['default']['database'] = 'crbs'; $db['default']['dbdriver'] = 'mysql'; $db['default']['dbprefix'] = ''; $db['default']['active_r'] = TRUE; $db['default']['pconnect'] = FALSE; $db['default']['db_debug'] = TRUE; $db['default']['cache_on'] = FALSE; $db['default']['cachedir'] = 'dbcache'; ?> I think I have the permissions to the areas set, can anyone help?? Ta!
  23. Well I guess I am in the fortunate position of having 2 Onelan boxes. One is attached to a 42 in the reception area and another 37 is in the main student area. All of the kids have to walk by. It really does get the information across well. Another plus point is it really impresses parents!! My only gripe is that because everything is not microsoft etc (linux and squid) it will not do powerpoints easily. You need to convert them to flash. Nice kit, bit not cheap!!
  24. This summer we installed a suite of 31 dell optiplex 755's. There is something strange going on with IE7. Once in a while the homepage does not load to google it loads to the dell homepage. Has anyone got a clue? it is just these machines and once every say 5 times. I can't find anything on google. Anti-virus is upto date and so is IE7 Any opinions???
