Darksoth replied to Darksoth's topic in Office Software
Thanks Dave, I get the feeling this is going to be the solution for a while yet looking at the MS Answers forums...- 3 replies

Morning! We're in the process of moving our Staff documents into OneDrive & have run into the problem of Data Files for Mail Merges not playing nicely with OneDrive. If you start a mail merge using a data source that is synched in OneDrive, the error message " is open in another application. Please close it and try again." In this case, the file is a .docx word file within the users documents. So far, work-arounds include pausing OneDrive sync while working on the mail merge, or copying the data file to a location not synched to OneDrive but neither of these are exactly seamless for the user. Has anyone else found a way to resolve this or a better work-around? Thanks in advance!

My understanding is mostly file sharing only, to mark work etc but collaboration would likely be helpful.
-
Thanks for that, I'll pass it along. I don't suppose you have any suggestions about sharing other file types via iCloud?
-
Hi Brimstone, Thanks for that. I'll pass that on to my Music team, I'm sure they'll find it useful. I think their ultimate goal though is for students to share their files with the teacher over iCloud in a similar way to how they would using OneDrive for example. This is where things seem to fall down... Thanks again for spending the time to try & help me out!

Yeah, both users signed in with Apple IDs managed by ASM & devices all managed via Mosyle...

Hi Brimstone, They are looking to share GarageBand tracks but also some Sibelius files & some media files as well. This is mainly from iMacs running Ventura but also from iPads (iPadOS 16.5.1). They've also tried to share files stored in iCloud via the web interface through a browser on a windows laptop without much success.

Afternoon everyone! Our Music department are looking to set up file sharing within iCloud between students & staff but this option appears to be non-existent. They have tried sharing via link but only receive a 'Shared files/photos not available'. I have ensured that sharing within the organisation is enabled in Apple School Manager but this doesn't make a difference. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi All, I'm looking for an app that will help our SLT arrange duty cover in different areas around the school at break & lunch time. Currently this is done via a spreadsheet & several all staff emails every day. There has to be a better way of doing this, right? I'm about to head off down the Google mines but thought I'd check in with you guys to see if anyone has nay recommendations! Thanks as always!

Hi Guys, We recently upgraded our Moodle installation to V4.0.1+ & since then, all files are displaying with the default icon rather than one that shows the file-type as they did before. I've dug through the menus but can't find a way to get back to the File Type icons as they were before. Moodle is aware of the file types & the icons appear under Site Administration>Server>File Types. Has anyone else run into this & found an option to turn these back on? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi All, Has anyone else noticed an issue with the Teams Windows app (currently v1.4.00.289) where the Activate banner does not appear for class teams awaiting activation but if you open the same team in the Mobile app or Web interface, the banner appears? For me, the issue resolved itself after signing out of my app & back in again but doesn't appear to work for my users. I suspect there's a temporary file buried away somewhere that's causing the issue. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this little quirk lately! Cheers!

That's a really good point, & not one that had occurred to me. Yes, everything is being wiped down & there are a few varieties of wipes in the wild so I wonder if some are being a bit *too* thorough Something to check. Thanks for nudging the obvious to the surface on a Friday!

Hi All, We've had a couple of examples of the touchpad on these laptops becoming completely unresponsive & wondering if anyone else had seen this? The touchpad stops responding all together while in Windows & even in the pre-boot diagnostics. The first one came down to replacing the touchpad (& palmrest by extension) after bios/chipset updates made no difference. Seems a bit odd to have 2 in such short succession. Any thoughts or observations welcome! TIA

Thanks for this, for some reason it hadn't crossed my mind! I'll give it a go. If only it were that simple! Cheers guys!

Hi all, We've recently created Office 365 groups via Salamander with the aim of creating Teams from these. However, as soon as these were created, students in a year group started to Reply to the welcome mail, causing an email storm to all members of the year group & teachers associated with it. We have unticked the "Send copies of group conversations and events..." option in group settings but the emails have continued. Does anyone know of a way to stop students being able to send messages to the O365 group mailbox or if there is a Powershell command to unsubscribe students' inboxes so they only receive event/meeting invitations? Thanks!
