  1. They understand enough to question it, and the school are probably informing the parents correctly ... but some parents are not informing their children and the leaving it all up to the school.
  2. Actually, might do if I come on the Tuesday night ... Will chat with you later about it.
  3. A bunch of Governors, Heads and even a school business manager and an LSA got awards.
  4. I should have cadged a space for me ... I still have my stuff sack somewhere with an old sleeping bag in ...
  5. Is the Seagate Dashboard working ok?
  6. What does Disk Manager show?
  7. I’d been waiting to watch this season in a binge, but never got chance to ... trying to avoid spoilers still
  8. My iPhone SE was replaced after a screen replacement failed but I’ll get the battery replaced prior to my summer upgrade so that it is in a reasonable condition when I hand it down to my Wife. I have a similar issue with my iPad though ... and looking through other comments on Apple forums, things don’t seem quite right with them too ... I wonder if this has more to come out
  9. I’m stopping just next to ExCeL this year but might come over to grab a bite.
  10. I don't get why people are worried about his retention policy. It is pretty obvious. The naughty or nice list has to be kept for infinity. A risk adverse approach might say until the heat death of the universe, but until we have more understanding of the implications of magic on this, then it is hard to conduct a full PIA. It needs to be that long, because some of the deliveries will be to those who believe in reincarnation and that may be needed to be taken into consideration, until there is a ruling to say that each incarnation is an individual data subject. I think we may need to consult with an expert on the matter ... I am sure the Dalai Lama has put in the required number of hours to be considered an expert in reincarnation. We also have to consider that fact that just because someone doesn't believe in reincarnation, that doesn't stop reincarnation from believing in them. So, retention period ... infinity. Discuss.
  11. Officially sulking.
  12. But I miss my breakfast butty and nipping up to Frank's to have a catch up with people.
  13. Conflicts of interests are not things that can just be picked up and moved around on an ad-hoc basis. What would happen is that you slowly divest yourself of items within your JD which *cannot be picked back up again* and the person who now has them has to have their JD updated and agreed, including any change in pay and conditions.
  14. Just made a final decision. I’m afraid not. Still have some hits I need to do before the break.
  15. We’ll be down on various stands but more about that closer to the show.
  16. Welcome, pull up a chair, be careful about which mug you use for a cuppa ... not because people are precious about them but we think some need a bit of a wash ... one asked me about when it would get full admin rights on its school network the other day. Don’t worry about feeling drained, confused, frustrated about *anything* in schools ... we have plenty of packs of EduHobnobs to share.
  17. Schools are also public bodies.
  18. If you outsource you may have multiple people working on it but you still have 1 DPO and they cannot have a conflict of interests either.
  19. Wait for discussion at report stage. Hopefully it will be in today’s session.
  20. Part of the problem is the lack of accreditation. At the moment you have GDPR-P and CIPP/E as the core two most folk would get. Not cheap and the quality of GDPR-P appears to vary. We tend to make sure anyone we work with have a number of years under their belt within the DP/Privacy arena ... It is going to be tough and hopefully the next month will open things up a bit more on the direction things are going.
  21. Use of the Internet is not consent. It would probably be under public interest but the student / parents are using their right to restrict processing, which the school has chosen to allow them to do. There is a difference.
  22. We also have to remember that legal reasons for processing is not a list with Consent as the last ditch reason. You should choose the most appropriate reason, taking into account all other considerations (including other legislation, guidance from SoS, etc.)
  23. I’ve already got my B Thaum. so wonder if I can get in on a staff job.
  24. Baroness Kidron strongly debated for age-appropriate design for internet society services.
  25. Welcome and pull up a chair. BETT has changed a lot over the last 5 years, since it moved to ExCeL (from the more homely Olympia) and that has brought some good and bad. The startup zone is usually full of exciting ideas, some of which (like Night Zookeeper) have stood the test of time within schools. For those with the heart of a Maker, the Pi village also bring a range of opportunities. For many other parts of the show there are good opportunities for CPD, but they are not as grass-roots based as they used to be. Both Google and Microsoft have strong partner presence, and it is often here you find some gems. For local schools to visit, I’d follow things like #caschat or #adechat over on Twitter and see if anyone is open for a visit.
