I was quite pleasantly surprised when I was at my local train station yesterday evening. Most people got off the train wearing masks, even though I think South Western Railway aren’t mandating face coverings. And driving around, I’ve still seen people wearing them.

I've had no problem just updating Windows on my personal Mac through Windows Update or the Upgrade Assistant. It's no different to a normal Windows install for the most part.

Moved my second vaccination forward from mid-August to tomorrow fairly painlessly. Only difficulty I had was the NHS system hadn't emailed or texted my booking confirmation, so no number to manage the booking online. Thankfully, after navigating all the menus on the 119 phone line, I spoke to a helpful woman who was able to find my appointment and get me sorted out!

I was wondering last week as I was going around London if this might be on the cards and I'm glad it is. While the risk is reportedly low, I certainly feel more confident about using public transport if masks are kept. Of course, people are trying to argue this isn't enforceable as it's no longer law (even though it really is as a condition of access!), so it remains to be seen how many people actually continue wearing masks!

Very, very long term here, but sub-orbital flight does have some benefits, like fast transport across vast distances, but that's a long way off from what this is doing. So yeah, this at the moment is just a rich man's toy. Shame really. The original SpaceShipOne concept that won the X-Prize for being the first private manned spacecraft was genuinely exciting, but this almost feels like they've spent 17 years since not really going much further with it. Given how these trips were supposed to be starting in 2009 when Virgin Galactic started, to have this to show for it only 12 years late is underwhelming.

Bit underwhelming, I remember watching SpaceShipOne, Burt Rutan's experimental craft that lead to Virgin Galactic in awe, but this fell short in comparison. For a start, by my maths it was 47,000ft off reaching the Karman Line for a start!

My concern is, by doing this, this is going to be irreversible, no matter what. If a new variant pops up that starts causing serious problems, then there's no way Johnson and co would be prepared to implement any serious restrictions to curb it as they know it'd be highly unpopular.

Yeah, in-place upgrade is the only way at the moment. Laptop had a base install of 20H2 on it and jumped to 11 without issue

I have to say, I've installed the Insider Preview on a laptop the other day and have been playing about with it, the UI changes have grown on me and it has so far been pretty stable. Ok, I haven't done much on it as yet but still, so far so good!

Growing up in East Anglia, I was surrounded by things like this, remains of USAF bomber bases etc. I remember once finding a crash site, think it could have been for a B-25, where there was still a visible crater left from it. I also only found out at Christmas that the brother of John F Kennedy was sadly killed in an accident in a bomber not far from where I lived most of my life. Only found out by a random visit to the church in that area where there was a memorial

Went back to see the coot family yesterday, all looking healthy and well and having fun exploring their home!

When I saw the first batches, I saw two families with two chicks each. This batch has 7 in one family! Big group. So lovely to see them though, part of the reason why I love where I live!

Got second broods of coots in the pond at Chiswick House near me. Exciting to see them!

I would also check out folders like /Library/LaunchAgents, ~/Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/Application Support and /Library/LaunchDaemons for anything suspicious and remove them. If any malicious software is running to do this, it's likely to be in there.

One thing I would also check, under System Preferences > Users, click the logon items for the user, see if there is anything on that list. If so, remove it with the minus button, log out and back in then try the command again to remove it in Terminal.
