I don't want these bits running every time though, I just want them to run once then not run again.

We're getting a lot of group policy errors in our event logs when computers boot up and gpupdate, an example being: The computer 'Video Player.lnk' preference item in the 'Client: Added Removed Shortcuts {AEC5820E-90B1-440B-A30D-85F355121111}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.' This error was suppressed. We have a group policy that deletes that shortcut on every PC. Now it was running every time a computer updates or starts so the error was more or less expected. But now I'm trying to stop so many errors, but hitting a bit of a brick wall. My first though was to set the group policy to run once - I do want to delete the file on all machines so i don't want to disable the policy altogether. However the same errors still occur every time the computers start and update Should that be happening or am i misunderstanding how the run once and do not reapply setting works?

just 6 more hours till the busiest time of the year starts The amount of conversation starting with "why didn't you ask for this sooner" being finished with the line "because they only just told us" would be amusing if it wasn't my manager having them. Man I'm glad I booked my time off in advance >.<

So I've been given an excel spreadsheet to import into Outlook. The problem is the format is all wrong. I need to convert it from:

Day Mth Date Wk Mtg Ass General Y7 Y8 Y9 Y10 Y11 Y12 Y13 Govs/SSOC

Tues Sep 1 INSET Day

Weds Sep 2 A SLT

Thurs Sep 3 A Enrichment Taster Session 4-6pm Year 12 start

into

Inset Day 10915

SLT 20915

Enrichement Taster Session 30915

Y12 Start 30915

Every non blank cell from the fifth column onwards needs to get a new entry on a new row with the date calculated from the first 3 columns And make a template file so this can be done often. Then converted to a csv file

Exchange 365 and AD - Mail enabled security groups
just_david replied to just_david's topic in Enterprise Software
With both. It appeared in OWA befor the desktop client, and still isn't in the desktop client address list, but doesn't throw an error if we put it in anymore. -
Exchange 365 and AD - Mail enabled security groups
just_david replied to just_david's topic in Enterprise Software
Hmmm no, the group in question doesn't have a proxy attribute set, nor will it let me set one. I'll poke it some more and report back Edit: speak of the devil, after about the fifth run of the sync today it's picked the group up and is now emailable -
Exchange 365 and AD - Mail enabled security groups
just_david replied to just_david's topic in Enterprise Software
Doesn't appear to be no. We've added an email, run a sync, but still when we try to email it comes up as an un-emailable address -
Does anyone know if this is possible with exchange 365? We've tried every option we can think of but we just can't seem to have a security group that's also an email group. I've seen mention of a trick that can be done in dir sync, but no specifics

Does anyone know if there's a GPO to stop this message popping up? I thought I'd found it in the word 2013 'prompt user if word isn't the default application for file extensions' GPO, But I set it to enabled (which according to the descriptive text disables that option in word) and it still pops up every time.

That's brilliant I'll test that out this afternoon with a few computers. thanks for the help everyone

I know that's why its slow, what I'm trying to find is a way to avoid having to do that but how will that cope with users logging in in different locations that have different printers? We don't want users to end up with 20 odd printers on their account I thought about using the GPP to target computers instead of users, but assumed there was a reason why this hadn't already been done. Does anything have to change for that or is it as it seems?
-
Chaning replace to update wouldn't change anything as the first thing to run is the delete all command. We already have OU's set up for the targeting of the printers.
-
Hi, Does anyone have any advice for deploying printers? Currently applying printer preferences is our longest hang time when a user logs in, and we're looking for a way to speed this up if at all possible. Our printers are deployed via GP using security groups for targeting, using a user configuration to deploy the drivers. On order 1 we have a delete all so that users don't have a printer from the other end of the school mounted by mistake, then the rest of the printers are added. Is there a more elegant way to achieve this? I'd love to find a way to get the right printers mounted on the right machines without having to uninstall and re-install them every time a user logs in. Thanks David

Has anyone here ever used the ruleset.xml file for java? We want to whitelist a pair of java web apps/websites and from what I can tell this is the best way to do it. Thus far I have a file with: But now I think I have to get this signed and made into a jar file. Is that the case or is there another way? Is there a guide on how to do that, or am I taking an overly long winder approach to this?

Recommended Certifications for ICT Network Manager (Schools)
just_david replied to BFCIT's topic in Learning Network Manager
I was going to start a new thread, but this here looks promising, as I'm after the same/similar thing but... What would you recommend for some network and switch configuration training? It's something I want to cover and something our department is lacking. But the only qualification I can find is the CCNA, and we use precisely 0 pieces cisco kit ^^
