  1. We are very pleased with our all flash Dell S2D nodes. Might also be worth chatting to Andy Carty at Nviron (Dell platinum partners) we bought ours from them in the end.
  2. Hi Moohorse, How much influence does the IT Network Manager have in the decision making process and strategic direction of IT resources in the school; i.e. which hardware/software to purchase, which suppliers to use. Just trying to understand how the role of Lead IT Practitioner influences the role of IT Network Manager. Thanks
  3. I thought you might say that. Yes, I know! Thanks anyway.
  4. @jahilton2002 did you ever get this to work? Were you able to get Chrome to sign in automatically for users? Thanks.
  5. mavhc this is what I mean... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/user-help/active-directory-saas-access-panel-introduction
  6. I'm trying to get to a point where pupils can log into a Windows PC or an iPad and the Chrome browser will automatically log in as them. We have some younger children in the school who will struggle to sign into Chrome manually but some of the apps we are going to use require it. I have worked through these instructions today but it hasn't achieved what I was hoping for (unless I have to use the MyApps panel). Am I trying to achieve something which isn't possible? Any help would be greatly received!
  7. @Sibrows are you using their managed service or managing it yourself?
  8. Just wondering if anyone has used European Electronique for any data cabling work recently (fibre/cat5/6) and would recommend them? Thanks in advance!
  9. AIOs please! Thanks v much
  10. I've managed to get from Summer to 3.62.114 but it will now not get beyond that - tolerance not met! I've tried skipping straight to Autumn 2 (3.62.122) but no luck. Frustrating!!
  11. I wonder if anyone can help with this... We are looking to have a kind of shortcut bank situation in Windows 7 where students and staff have redirected start menus and desktops. But how can you stop shortcuts appearing for programs which aren't installed on that particular device?
  12. We eventually got a call back today from Tanya who was very helpful and sorted the issue for us.
  13. Is it just me but has anyone else been experiencing issues with Smoothwall telephone support? We have logged a few calls with them lately and never get a call back. It is always down to us to do the chasing and even then we have often been promised a call back and never had one. Once you do get a call back then the support is excellent but we've had something logged for over 10 days on this occasion and haven't heard a thing! Don't get me wrong, we think our Smoothie is brilliant but it seems a shame that their telephone support is letting them down at the moment.
  14. Non term time would be best for us (probably 6th-8th June)
  15. I'd be interested too.
  16. I've also found the upgrade to be a real pain this time. Taking up loads of my time!! The main problem is with staff laptops which were obviously offsite during the Christmas holidays when I originally carried out the upgrade. Firstly, the Solus3 UI showed any devices not running the latest version of Solus3 as being 'offline' even though they weren't so that was quite a headache to sort out; we also had some showing in the UI that 'another deployment is currently in progress' and were stuck with 'install active' (The ESS utility seemed unable to reset them to 'install failed'). The upgrade itself showed as being 'In Progress' from December 19th to when we returned after Christmas despite restarting services and the SIMS server. Very disappointing. Capita very slow to respond to our helpdesk calls too :-(
  17. We also use Millgate (A/C Manager Gayle Forrester) - I have found them to be very good so far. Joe at CP is very helpful. Also Daniel Cox at BT Business Direct (Dabs) - can usually beat most of the competition!
  18. We are considering purchasing an Intel Modular Server (possibly rebranded as a NEC Flexpower Server), plus Promise Vtrak VTE310 for additional storage. I would be interested in any opinions/experiences that people have had with one of these. Our current setup is nearly five years old (Dell Poweredge 2850s x4, AX100 fibre channel SAN on RM CC3) and, of course, money is tight so we are looking for good value but still high quality and speed. We're initially looking at moving our CC3 across onto this but in due course possibly going vanilla and using Hyper-V with Windows 7 workstations and adding an Exchange 2010 server. Is this up to it in a large secondary school? Thanks.
