  1. Fronter as their preferred supplier for a learning platform. We are using moodle and also rolling out moodle to all our local middle and primary schools. Anyone with any feedback on Fronter both positive and negative would be great a couple of the heads at the schools were asking me what I thought.

    Website

We are currently looking at updating our college website, I have already spoken and had a visit from one company called webanywhere (any feedback from people who have used them would be great) does any know of any other company’s out there or who they are currently using for their school website.
  3. Year 9 = 100mb Year 10 = 150mb Year 11 = 200mb Year 12 and 13 = 250mb Staff= currently unlimited We introduced quotes after we were left with 12% of space on the server, at the last check we had 51% spare. It was mainly just unrelated college work music, videos, pictures and flash games. also uncompressed pictures from digital cameras are a killer, one student had a 130mb publisher document after compressing all the pictures 7mb.
  4. It does sound low but these are primary schools in a rural area, and we are keen to get them on board, so call it more of a first year sweetener.
  5. I am to attend a meeting, giving a presentation to the cluster heads in my area about our college learning platform and to offer to provide an instance of moodle. We are going to pitch to these schools that we will provide, Hosting, support and set up of moodle as well as two days training and half a day’s follow up for the fee of £150 for the year. Does that sound too much, to low? Or just right any feedback would be great.
  6. Thanks for the link DB. Unfortunately our LA isn't as switched on as Lancashire; we are still waiting for a decision to be made by the LA for who are the approved supplies. (Currently in the process of tendering). But we have been running moodle for the past two years and with interest show by our feeder primary’s and middle schools at a recent meeting are hoping to roll moodle out to them.
  7. Is their further info on this?
  8. Just done it on their support website, did you also ring up and get them returned back or just through the website?
  9. During the Half term the power company were doing some work on the overhead power lines and turned the power of at the school. When power was restored everything (severs, PC's and switches) all turned back on fine, expect for two 3com super stack switches. These switches are or where the core switches on our network. The question I have is can we claim compensation back of the power company to buy replacements for these switches?
  10. Apache is the web server, so it doesn't matter we have over a 100 users using it at any one point during the day and it doesn't cause a problem.
  11. i was told that it didn't matter wether it was server 2003 or xp that moodle was installed to and i've never had any problems with it being sat on the xp machine. i do have it set up as a server with a static IP.
  12. Hi guy’s I’ve been looking on this forum and even the moodle website to find out how to make our moodle site available over the internet, it is currently only available internal. I am currently running moodle on a Windows XP machine with Apache, PHP and Mysql; we also have ISA 2006 running on a separate server as well. I understand how to get the link between moodle-ISA and then the outside world but I need to have a certificate because the address that the LEA has given us requires SSL. I know about openssl but I have no idea how u install and configure it for a windows environment. Any help would be great and keep SMT of my back.
  13. i looked into this company who fit computer benching. Check out the website. http://www.logon-computing.co.uk and http://www.itbenching.co.uk I had a quote to kit out a 30 PC suite and it was around £8000 which i thought was quite good.

I am able to connect to the RIS server from the PC, when i go to automatic setup and it starts to download the image, i get the following error message: INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 21. having had a look on here and microsoft to see if anyone else has had the same problem but i cant find anything. anyone any ideas.
  15. ergo computing do a similar product to i-desk. we are having i-desk kitting out two of out ICT suites
  16. No going through the proxy to get to the internet or the MS upstream server in this case their is an upstream proxy at the ISP end but i dont think that would make much difference?
  17. I am just going through setting up WSUS 3.0 and having got to the screen were it asks u to connect to the MS upstream server i keep getting the following error message: "The upstream server is too busy to process the request". we do go through a proxy sever on our network and i have entered the details for this. Anyone any ideas please!!!!
  18. and yes it is a rubbish service, we had no internet just before an ofsed inspection was due to take place the VP has hopping mad. have u seen any of the reports from schools ict and NYCC about the problems with the internet and email it makes interesting reading. It states that they had a few rouge schools who in the first few weeks flooded the network with requests and goes an to say that they failed to Anticipate the amount of traffic on the network which is a load of old bulls**t. Because u know how many schools are in NYCC and the number of students. It was more a case of trying to get cheapest package they could get a way with, and it has come and bit them back in the arse. they have upgraded the internet and email over the half term to help with demand and reliablitiy but its anyone guess if it works. Sorry about the ramble its been so frustrating probably like your self with the internet and email, me and my colleague have been on the phone to schools ict at least 3 times a week about the service and its like talking to a brick wall.
  19. Its not YHGFL Broadband that are the issue, its with Bull that the problems with internet and email lay. I believe that all traffic is first routed through Bull and then on to YHGFL, this is because the middle school across the road from us pulled the old BT connection out and the network manager was rung up by a guy from YHGFL asking why they'd lost the connection to the school, who explained how the new internet set up worked and in his opinion gave schools al ess than impressive service.
  20. yeah sorry its Boxford CAD/CAM Design tools Version 3 - 4
  21. We have a CAD/CAM machine from a company called Boxford having put the software on the CAD/CAM PC. The head of technology would now like it available in the D+T computer suite. This is so students can see if they have any mistakes before they are machined. Problem: I have tried everything to get it to work across our network and nothing seems to do it even spoke to Boxford but had no luck there. My only option unless someone here knows away is to manual install it on every machine which would be a really time consuming pain Does any one have any experience and can help please.....
  22. 24, 25 next thursday where's the time gone since i left school!!!!
  23. [align=justify]Could anyone recommend a company to buy from or even a chair that is good for someone like me with a bad back? Since spending more time in my computer chair i have started to stuff from a bad back and the current chairs we have were only cheap and not the most comfortable or best for spending long period of time sat on. i been given money to spend on a suitable chair but theirs so many I don’t know which one would be suitable or comfortable. SPP

I believe its because your employer the school will pay one weeks full pay and the second week is paid at the SPP rate of about 108 quid at the mo. This is how i understand it when i spoke to HR and the head when i applied for leave and had it explained on a letter from the head.
