I think mine is tidier, if you have a mixed 32bit \ 64bit environment, put in the 64bit path in SOLUS3 - it'll then install to %ProgramFiles%\SIMS\SIMS .net

Exams is 32bit, been for a while, so is Options - I remember going to a meeting where they basically said they wimped out of upgrading Options to .net. No-one in their right mind still uses system manager 6. It's like using Nova-T4, only it has the user experience of having a monkey stabbing you in the eye with a blunt spoon whilst you use it. No SOLUS3 won't push out SIMS until you add the S3 client to the SIMS workstation group within SOLUS3. You have to think of SOLUS3 as Capita, so it deals with SIMS, Discover, FMS, so you have to pick which one you want. Lucky, because your re-using the GUID, it's a one-time activity - assuming you don't change your computer names every 5 mins. It does means you can install the SOLUS3 UI on the data managers PC and they can manage who gets SIMS\FMS\Discover, but you don't have to give them any admin permissions on all the workstations.

That's pretty cool, won't you get access denied \ a new guid every time because SCCM runs as the local service account and thus get access denied when querying the S3 db?

Oh ok, I wouldn't bother personally, just doesn't stack up. What? About Azure being IL3? Azure is only IL2, if it was IL3, we'd be throwing loads more at it, especially when you think you can shutdown anything that is office hours only overnight and make a instant saving. I suppose you could argue a school MIS is only IL2, but I wouldn't want to make that call.

Well I'm a fan of SOLUS3, its very much point and shoot. If you're not using it, then look at the command-line swithes on the installers (see supportnet), you can then just create a batch file that runs on first boot (runonce regkey). Save you making your image that few mb bigger only for it to then update and overwrite the out-of-date files. SIMS updates 3 times a year (not including re-releases, patches etc)

I didn't think you could run SIMS in Azure as it (Azure) wasn't IL3, ie it wasn't accreditated to store such sensitive data :S Having said that, if Capita is using it... Eh? Who's set this up?

Personally I wouldn't. Means you'll have to maintain multiple images and doesn't give you enough flexibility. Way I used to do it was a single OS image with drivers then deploy the software via SCCM or whatever.

Hosted SLG (ie by Capita) its free, Self-hosted SLG or hosted by LA there will be a charge... I suspect Capita will be cutting their Microsoft costs on their hosted SLG by releasing the Teacher App thus why its free, still that might be me being pessimistic however.

Well technicial Google, Apple and Microsoft don't actually interactive with the MIS, a third party does the integration, but now I'm just getting picking. Not quite sure how your going to do this. I mean, any software used in education is someway linked to the MIS - its one of the core products in a school!! Are you basically targeting software for schools that enhances the MIS, like assessment packages - but not specficially assessment packages (if that makes sense)? So not really interfaces like ID management?? Really thing you've given yourself a really complicated problem to solve!!

I see what you mean - but when the LA uses the data from SIMS to generate centrally hosted (email) accounts, arrange transport, feed data to social workers. IE if you stop sending it, something you use stops working. I guess it's how you want to define it - interfaces or bolt-ons - cashless catering>bolt-on, AD user creation>intergration.

Primary schools use Express, which is free. There are some massive improvements in SQL 2012 over SQL2008, admittedly quite a few are in the paid for versions. With that said, if you fancy trying to achieve what you can do out-of-the-box with the newer versions with the old versions, you'll see the benefits of upgrading - said the guy trying to work with MySQL 4 and MS-SQL 2000.

So PC's in domain B have SOLUS3 installed, they are online in SOLUS3 (on domain A). So the server (in domain A) can resolve the PC's in domain B? Uh. Be worth logging with Capita\LA and getting the Capita bod to remote in and have a look in that case. Be interested to find out what it is.

Anyone know if that demo is open to anyone? Or just schools? Wonder if Capita have tried it.
