Check the version of pulsar.exe on the server and the client - should be in c:\program files (x86)\sims\sims .net. I would guess the server is on a higher version then the client. If it's a new server, I would guess your using SOLUS2 and the setups directory is still pointing to the old server.

Try just surname, forename and year or just admission number. Tip with the admission number, check if it drops the leading 00's. So CSV works ok, but Excel doesn't? What version of Office do you have - I think you need Office 2010 or higher. I'll have to check.

Never got why you'd have two logins - a domain one and a local one - just bizarre. Like @FN-GM said, other then that, maybe look DirectAccess so they can connect from home. Not a fan of desktops, but that's assuming staff are actually working at home and not abusing having a laptop.

Few possible things - Your using SQL Express and its limited to 1 CPU. Buy Standard edition. - Your doing the once a year academic routine(s) that isn't optimized for parallel execute and has a warning about performance when running it and recommends running it out of hours

They are separate, cause your domain admin, does mean you have access to sql. He must have correct sql access to configure and setup s3. Just thought I'd say that before someone potential messes up the sql permissions

Try a domain admin, if that works, then try creating a domain user and adding to the local admin group

Stupid question, you are entering a domain administrator username and password with the user fqdn - such as domain\administrator when deploying the s3 agent to the workstations via the s3 ui?

He's already said he can get onto the workstations via UNC, so its enabled. It might be worth manually installing one workstation however and checking it can connect OK. I know I've had it before where DNS isn't 100% and the server could connect to the workstations ok, but they couldn't resolve the server correctly which causes all sorts of trouble.

Once you've got the basic imported you can use https://simsbulkimport.uk to import UDFs, email and telephone.

Clean machine? They haven't previously had s3? WMI enabled? What AV you using, it hasn't snuck on some firewall?

You need to do the CTF export routine within WCBS PASS, as the CTF format is a DfE standard. If it still fails to import you need to then check both systems are up-to-date and using the same latest version of the CTF format

SIMS and FMS are two completely separate independent applications, if Capita include built in support for SIMS, they'd be forced to include other providers support as they'll have a monopoly. Plus, can you imagine if your FMS broke because some obscure MIS provider wrote a duff library which they had to include - or how funny it'll be where every other MIS integration worked, but the SIMS one?

It stupidly uses them to sync your personnel records from SIMS so your Finance system has a commitment so you don't accidently spend your staff wages. Wouldn't be an issue if you had SOLUS3 either.

The setsimsbackupfolder we spoke about basically sets the path in SQL - if you've got SQL management studio install\ok using osql\sqlcmd then you can check by running: select location from sims.db_backup_location

Shouldn't it be set to use just itself (and another local dns server if you've got two DNS servers locally), then you have BTs setup under forwarders.

I'd assume the key difference between BT and Virgin is, BT is limited to copper - if you can physically only deliver 2MB to a property and they are using 2MB, you're stuffed, Virgin could deliver over 150MB to a house, so if I'm eating all 50MB, they could up the connection to 60MB then allocate 10MB to the free wifi - assuming that's what they do. Won't think so, would have assumed they've done a deal with them - ie we give your customers free wifi, we get to run our fibres around London via the underground for free\reduced cost

Got a letter in the post on Saturday. Personally, yes. Check the SQL bin folder, if I remember correctly there should be something called set backup path or something to that effect. There is a Capita doc somewhere on SupportNet as to how to use the command line tool. PS: You should avoid using Sysman6 like the plague.

I wouldn't be messing around with gpo before exams results day, security isn't something that should be rushed either. You don't want to accidently give everyone local admin rights for example. There are other topics on here where people have discussed it a bit more detail then what I've said above, but I really wouldn't, for the sake of baby sitting a few key users. Which they'll hopefully appreciate more then a GPO - no offense, but that's the value added of onsite IT techs vs a outsourced IT service. Someone a lot of folks need to keep in mind as I'm seeing a lot of schools becoming Academies and rethinking there IT support model. (I digress)

Seriously, don't both. The time it'll take to create a security group and create a GPO to allow read\write to the SIMS directory you could have SOLUS3 half setup. If you're a high school and your using things like Exams, you'll waste even more time give users more permissions.

Setup SOLUS3. Problem solved.
