Speaking of Intel, you can save a bit by going with AMD

Went to my first ever film premier yesterday.... well kinda. My old man being a high up glorified grave digger (Sorry, Archaeologist) got an invite to the premier of 'The Dig', but cus of covid it was streamed meaning i got to watch in on it! Anyway brief film review: First thing to note it's based on a novel thats based on the Sutton Hoo dig so it's not 100% factual. But apart from that it's very good and has great character dynamics between the cast. Some great whitty one liners, you will laugh and cry! Well i did, and for a dalek with no sense of emotion other than hate that's a mighty fine achievement!

Weirdly i was playing this song due to it being one day left of Trump and then Corden released his version, i think he copied me.

My favourite films when i was that age were Star Wars (Original, all there was back then!) and the Italian Job!

120GB min for any Windows device (Excluding signage etc.) With 64GB once you stick Windows, Office and 1 other app that's already around 40-50GB and then Windows update comes along and you're out of storage!

Re Wandavision, watched first 2 looks like it's gonna build and build and then it's all going to kick off in the last couple of episodes. I like when programmes do this as gets you thinking what's going on!

Is the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U any good for a pupil laptop?
DalekSec replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Hardware
Depends on the workload and software, it used to be that most software wouldn't go above 4 threads, as intel in their wisdom decided no one needed more than 4 outside of servers so software developers didn't write it for use of more than 4. Till AMD came around and did an Oprah and gave everyone cores. Most modern software will make use more multiple cores, high end software such as Premiere Pro etc will make use of most of them if not all. I have a 8 core 16 thread and PP uses it all! -

Reasons to buy Intel atm = You like the colour blue Reasons to buy AMD = Literally everything else I'd kill to have the 3500u in my work laptop! -
Thanks both, these are way more in the budget where i was hoping! The Ender 6 looks like a winner.

Did have a look at ultimakers but even 2nd out is out of my budget, tbf most half decent ones look out of budget! Think i'll hold off for awhile longer as i'm currently saving for a new MacBook and taking the hit on that and a 3D printer will be too much. Might just borrow one from DT as the DT Teacher said i could over the hols, sure he will let me borrow over lockdown 3!

I've recently started a course in Fusion 360 to get into CAD/CAM work. Getting to the point where i'd like to design and print things but i have pretty much 0 knowledge of 3D Printers. Can anyone recommend a good 3D for under 1k? I'm ok with second hand or refurb all i'm after is that it works with Fusion 360, WiFi Enabled and a built in camera for remote viewing as a plus. Our DT Dept use makerbots (they have about 10 now..) and they seem like a good option but they are a pretty penny! Any advice would be great

Personally wouldn't buy a M1 for an mission critical work loads currently. Give it time to bed in and iron out bugs and get support. If you need a device ASAP that 'just works' get an Intel based one. If you're ok with a few problems for the next 6 months or so then go ahead with the M1 (I would but i'm waiting for the M2!)

Apple Announces The Apple Silicon M1: The end of x86?
DalekSec replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Mac
I doubt any companies will be buying an M1 Macs currently, too many things that don't run natively on them along with plenty of unknowns. If i had to buy a new Mac for work i'd stick to an Intel one for now till the M series has matured. Plus how many companies you see running Mac Minis as their main desktops? Majority are iMacs -
Apple Announces The Apple Silicon M1: The end of x86?
DalekSec replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Mac
Solution: Do you need more than 2 monitors? Yes - Wait a year for the new chips or buy an adapter. No - Go ahead and buy a M1 Remember this is a first gen product, they won't be perfect and have a few niggles. What apple have managed to do though with this first gen is nothing short of remarkable. Their x86 emulation alone is better than Microsoft have been trying for years! (Thanks to actual on chip hardware) End of discussion
