Our Ghost server died last week and all of the images i have made for all of our different machines have been lost. Previously i had an image for each different motherboard and laptop in our college. I never used sysprep as i had no knowledge of it when i started here and we never encountered any problems. We have the latest version of Ghost installed and i am eager to start making the images again whilst there are no major jobs on. Should i carry on as before and not worry about sysprep, any advice or different ways of doing things will be appreciated, i am happy to try new things. Thanks

The link i posted was to the UK site, i read your original post as you saying you were unable to find your model, i wondered if it was because you were looking at the US version of the site. -

I've seen a fair few laptops where dust and hairs etc. have got stuck between the fan and the heatsink building up to a point where it was forming a physical barrier stopping decent air flow. Depending on the make of laptop, it might be worth flipping the laptop over to see if there is an access panel to get to the processor and heatsink arrangement.

I use coverxp, there is a free version. You either use a template in your usual design program then drop into coverxp and it resizes. Does all CD and DVD case sizes. [coverXP] : print your covers in seconds... in style!

I've used these people in the past if it's the hard drive that is locked. HDD Unlock - Overview I spent ages looking for a way round it and this was the only thing that worked. There is a download section on their site, a small app that tells you if it can be unlocked.

Maybe the older PCs were built before widescreens became common place, and so don't have the correct resolution built into them?

You will need to make sure your acer contains a WWAN card as well as, the sim card slot might work, but without the hardware to understand it it won't work. BTW Vodafone do an unlimited data plan for £18 + vat a month, where unlimited is unlimited.

I think as long as the drives are identical, and have matching firmware, then you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. It's worth a try, especially if the drive isn't being recognized. I thing the freezer trick only works with drives where the spindle has seized.

You could try updating the wireless drivers in the laptop. I've had connection problems with older drivers for the Intel wireless cards.

It's been mostly student laptops that have been causing the problem, and they have an extra battery rather than a DVD drive, however at the top of that article they mention supend and resume problems, so i think that's it....cheers.

Hello, we have about 150 Dell D531 laptops in our college. Trolleys for students and also staff have them to. Recently some of them would be really slow on boot up and in windows. I tracked it down to the Primary IDE reverting to PIO mode, i uninstall it, restart the laptop and UDMA is now enabled. My question is does anyone know why this is happening, its not all of the laptops, just 1s and 2s here and there. Cheers Michael

I recently had to look at this for an outside job, the main differences as far as i can tell are the ability to control the pc more and use wireless headsets with the pro version. If the user just wants to dictate to a word document then i guess the standard version would do. Here's the comparison matrix to have a proper look. It's no better than the rest !! The Pwn2Own trifecta: Safari, IE 8, and Firefox exploited on day 1

All of our staff have Dells, apart from the occasional hard drive problem, they are excellent, and the hard drives are sent by Dell for next day anyway.

IE7 throughout here, but i personally use firefox.

As an ex mechanic, and break down recovery driver. I'd avoid any french car that doesn't come with warranty. The newer ones might be more reliable than the older ones, but parts are still relatively expensive, and they aren't the easiest of cars to work on, hence higher mechanic costs. Japanese cars are super reliable, then followed by German cars, and we all know what Ford stands for.....Fix Or Repair Daily, but at least the parts are cheap.

I've just ghosted a pc this morning with an 8168/8111 ghost boot floppy. I could email you a copy if you like, if that's any help to you?
