Forgive me if this is a silly question, i'm a hardware and desktop support man usually. I've replaced a dead motherboard in a Windows 2003 server and noticed it only has SP1 on. How insecure is Windows Server with only SP1 on. It has all the other updates on, but the owner is worried about upgrading to SP2 as it all works and nothing has damaged it so far. It faces the internet. It's not a school server, but one of the IT teachers. Thanks

Have you tried the drivers from the realtek site rather than the Toshiba ones ? Might be worth a try.

My guess would be would be something to do with the wireless, some setting on the hub/router that the Samsung wireless isn't happy about.

No they didn't tell me and i didn't ask, i have recently questioned my tax code with the business manager here at the school. It seems that my code here has changed and my tax allowance is now on my self employment. It should mean i get a nice cheque back when i do my annual tax return. When speaking to the HM revenue lady i asked if i had to inform the school, and they said no it is completely seperate. I don't know what my tax allowance is but i'm hoping if i pay a small amount of tax, i might even get a refund. I only registered in January so haven't done a full years trading yet.

@dwhyte85 Not sure what you're asking, but i'm going from personal experience. I rang HM revenue, informed them i worked in a school and informed them i wanted to work for myself at the same time. They send me an invoice for my NI every quarter.

Another vote here for imaging the hard drive before you start. You have to let HM Revenue and customs know as well, they'll want £31.20 a quarter from you for National Insurance.

I don't think there is a way, it's either onboard graphics or a grpahics card, but not both. You could always try a USB to VGA adpater if you wanted 3 monitors.

Check the capacitors on the graphics card. I have had to replace the capacitors on mine, even though they were solid state. 1 had blown up ! It caused all sorts of freezing, reboot problems until i located it.

After initial setup which can be problematic for various reasons, the quality of the service is good. I have the 50mb connection, and i get excellent dl speeds (a 700mb linux distro in about 2 minutes). The 50mb service is the only one that isn't capped and they are bringing out a 200mb service soon. Their customer support is a bit flakey, but once you're up and running their should be no real reason to call them.

My dad was one of the architects on a very big well known cheese factory, they were pouring all the spare milk down a concrete lined drain. On one of the inspections they lifted the cover to check everything was ok, to discover the milk had dissolved/washed away the concrete !

We don't have any here, but i bought USB chargers for my kids at home, maybe a powered USB hub to charge them using 1 mains socket rather than having lots of mains adapters which would then take up less space ?

We have several laptop trolleys here and staff with the D531. Apart from the IDE mode switching to PIO on some of them sometimes, i've not noticed any poorer quality than our other Dell laptops we have.

I think there must be a problem with the original file. I can view happily on my PC, but the Mac doesn't like the original or converted file with either iMovie or VLC. The student is going to refilm the 4 second clips with a school camera.

Cheers Ollie, the student needs to import into iMovie, i'll convert them to mp4 and see how it goes.
