If its a clearance issue then it's not worth trying to squeeze it past for the extra 10 minutes it will take to split the laptop and remove the lid completely before removing the bezel. Don't forget to remove the battery before doing screens, (which you will have to do if splitting the laptop) I've seen backlight fuses fail if this isn't done.

It would be the first Toshiba I've seen that uses adhesive tape or glue, the front bezel is normally attached with clips and sometimes screws.

It's usually only sockets that are directly soldered to the motherboard that need replacing. In fact i don't ever remember replacing a socket with a lead. The NP350V5C i have in for repair, has no lights and is not charging, but this is down to the charging circuit on the motherboard and i'm hoping an easy fix when the parts arrive. I gave my advice not to fish for work but to help/advise, there's nothing worse than being half way through a job wishing you hadn't started because you don't have the correct tool or you realise it's not the fault you thought it was, especially when you are on mates rates. Check the PSU for 19v, then check there is 19v going to the motherboard before buying anything, without seeing the laptop its a guess but i don't think it's the socket.

Is the socket being replaced due to damage ? Check the adapter voltage first, then check it's getting 19v to the board, i've seen adapters put out 19v which then fails under load plugged in.

Is it a temperature controlled iron ? That's 4 large pins to heat up. You might find it easier to replace just the socket which are two smaller parts to solder. Or get a hot air station, makes laptop sockets ever so easy.

I'd want to test the new power supply with a power supply tester to rule that out first. Is the P4 connector plugged in too ? Rarely are motherboards completely dead unless they are seriously burnt. It depends on time/patience/interest as to if you want to try and find and fix the fault Just like cars after an accident you have to weigh up if it's an economical repair or not. It's possible the Acer motherboard is a silly size, so a new case would be required and an OS install (cool uncle time).

Couple things to try. Powered off remove the PCB give the contacts a clean with an eraser. If you have a multi meter you can check the two TVS diodes. Contacts on the left have been cleaned, the ones on the right haven't. These two things will not hamper a professional recovery unlike the freezer trick that is only good for stuck motors which are rare.

I'd tried that and it was no good. Just given it good scrub and all is well, down to the copper under that rubbish silvery coating.

Nice, i have the AOYUE 474A++ desoldering pump but it's cr@p due to a manufacturing fault, can't wet the end with solder. I need to modify it with a Hakko end. I mostly work on laptops though and use hot air. Chip Quik is handy too.

That TQFP48 is a common failure in Samsung and Sony TVs, costs less than a pound vs many for the TCON, and the QFN is common on laptop motherboards that are dead otherwise.

I highly recommend getting a microscope and a hot air station.

I see those sliders and pot and raise you QFN and TQFP48, removal and replacement Also HDMI and ethernet sockets.

D'oh !! I realised in the bath last night i'd been talking a bit of rubbish, reballing was better than reflowing as it always is but it did not fix the issue long term as they suffered from the nvidia bad bumps (bumpgate) and needed replacement chips as many laptops from that time with faulty Nvidia chips did. But yes, if it's £200+ for a second hand logic baord then I think it's worth getting repaired.

If they are photography students they should understand the need to calibrate their screen-print. It's not just brightness/darkness. The type of lighting affects how the prints look too. I have cool white LEDs throughout my house and it makes my canvas prints look washed out. They are perfectly fine in daylight or at a friends under halogen or incandescent bulbs.
