Students using personal Chromebooks to access Google Classroom
TMBS replied to rednight's topic in How do you do....it?
Are students able to do this on a school managed Chromebook? Thanks -
Google Classroom - Meet recording owned by someone else
TMBS replied to bonnett11's topic in Educational Software
You can lock the setting down in the Google Admin console for students and it depends on how Meets are started to who is the owner of the Meet. Nicknames and from Google Classroom are the best as they don't allow the students to gain access until the teacher is in there. Otherwise the first person in is the host and owns the recordings. -
My son has a go pro and said he can only share the image to an app on his phone, not PC. I guess you need an action camera that will act as a webcam to do this - good idea! I prefer your photo though

Testing with Duct tape next week and if it works we'll treat ourselves to one of these! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Designo-Harness-Cameras-Universal-Samsung-Black/dp/B01N7BPLIH

I'd not even thought of that! Off to test now. Just need to work out how to attached phone to teacher! Thanks

I suggested that but they want to walk around the room. Obviously kids nowadays need to be shown how to wash up too!

Hi My unusual request of the week came from our Food Tech teacher who wants to 'wear' a camera to teach live lessons using Google Meet, so students can see what she's doing. I'm not sure how well it's going to work but I knew you lot would be able to offer lots of useful advice! It needs to be: Wireless Compatible with Google Meet Something she can wear! I'm looking at some cheaper action cameras - GoPros are too expensive - but not sure if the live element will work on them?? Thanks

Hi We have students playing silly s*ds in class Google Meets, either trying to gain entry with a personal (Fat Sl*g) email, or using another students details to gain entry and post silly chat comments. I know you can deny users but it pops up and pings which disrupts the lesson. I've locked it down as much as possible in Google Admin, so students can't make calls. I've told staff about Host Controls and we reset passwords if students have been hacked by other students. Anything else we can do to lock down? I appreciate it's all new and will hopefully calm down but it does disrupt classes. Thanks

Setting up Restricted access for students in YouTube
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in How do you do....it?
When you say linked, just a link on Show My Homework, or Google Classroom, etc? Thanks -
Hi Any Google Admin/Youtube experts out there who could help me set up Restricted access for YouTube? YouTube is currently blocked for students in school. With remote learning and students in school completing the same work as those at home it's causing issues as staff are setting YouTube videos. I can see in the Google Admin console that you can set up restricted access for an OU and allow teachers to post 'allowed' videos. Can anyone help me with this, or point me to a nice step by step guide? I've never done and a little wary of allowing everything! Thanks!

That's what we've done now! Much quicker and easier to use

It scans to Notepad but there is no ~ at the beginning?

Hi Anyone had the joy of trying to set up the scanners on the Gov Covid testing site? I'm logged in as an administrator on a Windows 10 PC, using an Inlight ID Barcode Scanner. When I get to the page to scan the barcode it beeps but nothing happens, then opens the Download page in Chrome. It's showing in Device Manager, all the lights are on and everything seems to be working... Support page on Inlight is blank, no drivers, etc. They want to start testing this afternoon and obviously this is the first time I became involved! Thanks

We had 32 of these turn up on our doorstep on Monday, with no prior warning. The IT department were not even added to the list of five people who can access the portal! I've managed to gain access now but when I try and reset my password the link expires by the time the email turns up - this is going to be fun! We're a Google school so don't want all the shortcuts to Office on them. Can anyone PM me the admin password? Thanks

It was more accurate than the Google Workspace Dashboard which was showing full green at the time...

Thanks! That's a a good price! Just found out we have some in school from the DFE that I knew nothing about. Does anyone else get frustrated by IT devices just appearing? You're generally only informed when they go wrong

Not sure if you've seen: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/mobile/pay-as-you-go-plans/schools-connected Vodafone are offering free data SIMS for schools. Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably cheap dongle? Thanks!

Schools Broadband offsite filtering issues
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi Dave I'd raised a call and been given the proxy settings but it still wouldn't allow me to connect from home. I've just spoken to the engineer again this morning and it was as port issue that SBB needed to configured - all working now! Thanks -
Schools Broadband offsite filtering issues
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Definately wasn't told that. Just add proxy setting, no wagent needed and it should just work! -
Hi Has anyone got their offsite filtering working through Schools Broadband? I'm using a Win 8 laptop, have added the proxy settings given but when I try and access from home I get not access to the Internet with a ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error. I've check the settings for typos and all are correct, not sure what to do no we need it on Tuesday for a student... I've got a ticket logged with SB... Thanks

There is the option for 'Different model replacement For example, replacing a Pixelbook with a Pixelbook Go' when deprovisioning, which would suggest otherwise? We're replacing with the same make/model though so not an issue.
-
Yes we're replacing broken Chromebooks

Hi My technician has selected 'Retiring from fleet' when deprovisioning 13 Chromebooks which also deletes the licence - which isn't clearly stated. We can't afford to spend another £260 on Chrome licences, do anyone know of a way to restore them? We're not using on any other devices. Thanks!
