After 19 years of being an IT tech and then NM I have decided to take early retirement and say goodbye to Education and IT! I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone on here for their continued support over the years - it has been invaluable, your expertise and advice has been a life saver on many occasion! I'm off now to enjoy the grandchildren, walk the dog and not have the stress of the network crashing! Good luck to you all. Tracey x

I just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone who responded, especially over the weekend! The new equipment was a red herring! I tried swapping the network cable, switching the new equipment off, connection a laptop to the router but all to no avail. Interestingly the phones (VOIP) and Team Viewer would connect. Spent over an hour on the phone to Schools Broadband support and eventually they found a change had been made their end... Persistance and not being fobbed off worked on this occasion and our Internet is back up in time for exams download. I can now breathe a sigh of relief and relax into (semi) retirement!

Hi everyone Just when I thought I'd retired our Internet connection decides to go down! Our technician was onsite today and rang me to say there was no Internet connection whole site. After further digging it appears that a BT engineer has been onsite over the holidays (without our knowledge or permission Premises just let him in) and installed a new FSP 150-GE102Pro which has a red light on the Access port. I presume this is where the issue lies but have no idea what to do to resolve it, our technician has already tried a reboot. I'm presuming it was installed as part of our broadband upgrade and have contacted Schools Broadband but we've had no prior warning of this happening and haven't heard back from them yet. I've go no idea who to contact at BT as we've never dealt with them. I can connect to the school network via my home VPN so the connection into the school is okay. We can also browse the network. With GCSE downloads next week this is rather urgent and any help/advice would be gratefully recieved. Thanks

Login loop on Chromebooks - anyone else having this issue today?
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in Cloud Services
I reported it this morning. They said they'd only had one other report and that turned out to be a WiFi issue and when the Chromebook was connected to a hotspot on their phone it resolved it. Unfortunately we'd powerwashed all the Chromebooks that had the issue so couldn't troubleshoot with them. They've asked us to video the issue next time and send logs. It seems to be more a profile issue for us?? -
Login loop on Chromebooks - anyone else having this issue today?
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in Cloud Services
This has become more widespread for us. Yesterday it was one or two students in the same OU, today we've got staff and students from different OUs. Anyone know what's causing it? -
Hi We're having issues with students logging into Chromebooks which seems a little bizarre - is anyone else having issues today? Students can log into the Chromebook, it allows them on to our student homepage (Google Site), when they try and access any Google App from here it loads a blank screen and on occasions asks them to log in again and goes into a loop. This only happens for Google Apps they can browse all other websites. So far it is only happening on Chromebooks in our SEN OU, if we log in as an Admin user or Teststudent everything works as normal. When the affected students log into a Chromebook from a different OU everything works as normal. As a workaround powerwashing the Chromebooks resolves the issue - I don't want to have to powerwash 300 Chromebooks though... Any ideas? Thanks

Netsweeper Agent randomly not starting
TMBS replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'd seen that thread but this started happening last year so I don't think it's that - thanks anyway! -
Hi Has anyone else had issues with their SBB Netsweeper agent not starting? We're just having this randomly happening to us. It's hard to monitor as staff only become aware when they can't use YouTube because it's blocked by the KS3 filtering policy. When you look at the machine there is no NS agent in the taskbar. We can push it out again, or restart the machine to resolve but would like to know why it's happening. We've got a call open with SBB and RM and have installed the latest agent. It looks like the service isn't starting but I don't know why not. Thanks for any help!

Google Workspace for Education - Adding Teacher to Classroom
TMBS replied to talksr's topic in Cloud Services
The teacher who owns the Classroom has to add them from the People tab in their Google Classroom and then Invite Teachers. Unfortunately you can't add them from the Admin Console, which would be useful with the number of staff off atm! I always tell my teachers to add their HOD as a co-teacher. Then if they're off the HOD can add whoever covers. Hopefully, both are never off at once! -
Can you point me towards this setting? Thanks

This seems to have worked for use too! Thanks

Is there an issue pushing out the Netsupport extension on Chromebooks? We were looking at using this...
-
Hi Since coming back after Summer approx 40% of our Chromebooks are giving the following error when students log in: Profile error occurred Something went wrong when opening your profile. Some features may be unavailable This only happens on Chromebooks, not Windows devices using Chrome. I can't pin it down to specific models of Chromebooks, or Chrome version. The only issue I can see at the moment is that the Chromebooks with the error aren't pulling down all the extensions. Anyone else seen this? Thanks

Per device at top level and then device and user at Staff/Student. I'm now wondering if we even need three SSIDs? None of the settings are different, we don't have VLANs, you can set specific WiFi settings via OUs in Google Admin, so I might just be creating myself a lot of work... Thanks
-
Hi I added the new network to the new controller before removing the old Unifi controller but it had the same SSID. I then removed the old controller and added the new staff and student SSID in the Gen 2 and pushed out via Google Admin. I thought that because the Chromebook would connect at the top level as a device, it would just switch over and pull down the new settings when logged in as a student - I don't think that is the case though All the new SSIDs are showing in Devices - Networks in the correct Staff and Student OUs. There are only Managed Wifi settings and General Settings (Chromebook Only) that I can see though. Are there settings pushed out elsewhere in the Google Admin? I don't understand why the SSIDs I've set in the Google Admin - Devices - Networks -WiFi Managing Networks are not showing on the Chromebooks as being managed by our organisation? I can see them, connect to them manually but there is no little building icon... Thanks!

Hi We've just updated our Unifi controller and was going for a full refresh with our current setup of Wi-Fi, managed networks in Google Admin and Chromebooks. However, it's not going as planned so advice needed! Our current setup is: Unifi Cloud key controller - Two WIFI networks, Staff and Students Google Admin - WIFI pushed out and managed in Devices - Network to the relevant OUs (Staff - Staff Wifi, Students - Chromebooks). 300 Chromebooks - all enrolled and connected to Student Chromebooks (these are not used by staff) Flat network, no VLANs. What we wanted and have done so far: Setup new Unifi Gen 2 controller, added three WiFi networks: School, Staff, Student. Old controller unplugged New WiFi networks added in Google Admin, School (at top of domain), Staff (at staff OU), Student (at student OU). All have the same settings applied, Platform access set to Chromebook Device and User, all set to automatically connect. Reset and adopted two Unifi ACs We can still see the old WiFi networks even though the controller is unplugged and they have been deleted in the Google Admin. Why? Only the top School Wifi network is showing as a 'managed organisation' on the Chromebooks. Even though all three are managed in the Google Admin When we switch on a Chromebook it connects automatically to the top domain 'School' Wifi, as expected. When we log in as a student it stays on the 'School' Wifi unless we manually connect to the Student Wifi. Can we set this to automatically connect? We don't want to have to manually connect 300 Chromebooks. Struggling with getting my head around this now... Thanks for any advice!
