My feeling is WG are pushing Hwb because they wasted so much on Hwb+ Hwb would be better off if they turned it into a service that supported schools in setting up O365, particularly for Primaries. Or you know, just thrown into the fires of mount doom.

Thanks! I've briefly looked at email migration and it will absolutely be a nightmare. Hopefully we stick to our own 365 as I've spent a lot of time configuring SSO to various services that we will loose if we go to Hwb.

I'd rather die than attend any more Hwb meets. Would be great to meet up with other techs though. At a social distance ofc

Hi, I've had a lot of pressure from our school leadership team to move our emails from our own office 365 and use Hwb entirely instead. I have a lot of concerns with doing this, including the lack of control over the setup and configuration as well as security concerns. I was wondering what schools use Hwb and how you use it? Do you use it solely for email and everything or with Google Apps/ O365 etc? I previously worked at a 'Hwb+ Center of Excellence' when that was still a thing and experienced a lot of issues when that was shut down. A stumbling block I keep getting is the answer from the school leadership team that Hwb is compulsory in Wales and we HAVE to use it. However I can only find information that states we have to use it for the online tests. Does anyone know if that is the case? All answers are greatly appreciated

Don't count on it. I'm continually having conversations (and maybe an argument or two) with Hwb about feature requests and they seem uninterested in giving schools any additional control.

I told my SLT that if we use our own Office 365 instead of Hwb we could have School Data Sync set up the teams automatically and they didn't believe me!

Same issues here. Our school wants to move to Hwb for everything, I've explained the extra work and the lack of control that we will have and they seem to not be listening.

I think the WG want to push all schools into using Hwb and move away from own servers and networks entirely.

Cardiff Council here. All data given, no coms received. We need new servers and were told not to buy our own as this funding would provide them. Finally chased a response. The money is to be spent on WiFi

Hello superior cyber beings, I need your help. Our headteacher now has an iMac (they used to teach design) And I was wondering if anyone knew an easy solution to get SIMS running on macOS. This would only need to be for a temporary period of time. I don’t really want to use Bootcamp or a full machine as I know the head will struggle with opening SIMS on a Mac. I was thinking Parallels might be a solution however I can’t really justify the expense as we will eventually be moving to cloud SIMS. I’m not sure Wine will be able to achieve what I need as I’m not really sure that would work with the SIMS install process. Is there an open source equivalent to Parallels or a solution anyone can suggest that might work? Thanks

I'd say Final Cut X over iMovie. iMovie will do the basics but at Level you will want more features and you'll always have that one student that's making the next Avatar. - Reasons for Final Cut over Adobe: > Easier to use > Familiar to students - if they have an iPhone, mac or iPad they will probably have played around with iMovie > Reasonably priced - I think its about £150 a licence these days > Can use iMove to learn with and move on to Final Cut X for Mat if required. > Works quite similar to DaVinci Resolve - useful if they end up working at home on a windows PC I believe most media courses or attest videography focused (going on my experience so could be very very wrong) use FCPX so it gets them used to software. The other option is the above mentioned DaVinci Resolve. It's pretty damn good considering its free. From the limited use I've had of it it seems pretty professional. So basically my suggestions are FCPX if you want to spend money, DaVinci if you don't.
