  1. I’ve heard that ESS have said they didn’t realise how much work was needed for SIMS8 and that that’s currently going back to the drawing board. Their current priority is to add features and improvements to SIMS 7. Capita wouldn’t do this as they constantly said “SIMS 8 is coming” but ESS has acknowledged it’s a long way way.
  2. I've used @webman's classroom bookings in 3 previous schools and its pretty perfect. We stopped using it in my current school and use schoolbooking.com, purely due to SIMS integration as our timetable is changed far too often, and also for resource tracking. (When it gets those features, I'll be moving straight back) There's also a resource booking built into EduLink One, but I've not used that.
  3. Hi, Our school is looking at a one-to-one strategy for our year 7 learners. SLT would like the devices to remain on site, so the learner collects the device AM and returns it PM. I've been looking at Smart lockers, including a Lapsafe option that allows us to see if a device has been returned via a web interface. I was wondering if any schools had any experience in this style of deployment? Thanks
  4. Might be another hidden OU. The have a million.
  5. Yep. Hwb is literally a giant Tennant with a modified version of Salamader for every school. They would be better off transforming it into a resource system for schools to support in accessing features or something.
  6. Bromcom seems to be pretty popular. We used that when I was in school, so I have a bit of nostalgia for it. It seems Hosted SIMS is on hold as no ones sure what ESS are going to focus on now that Capita has done a runner. Also they seem to be doing the SIMS 8 is here sales pitch.
  7. Hwb is all one Tennant so that probably explains speed. It also means we won't get more control. It's just not set up that way.
  8. We don't talk about Hwb.
  9. Yes. I think that’s the best option. However I think our LEA requires we use SIMS. I’m going to check on that.
  10. We were planning to migrate to Hosted SIMS but were told by our LEA that they are looking into SIMS 8 rather than hosted SIMS. I heard that SIMS 8 was coming soon 7 years ago ... I did see in the Capita sale press release they said they were looking forward to developing SIMS 8. I’m wondering if the LEA has information I don’t know about or if they are just buying into the sales line. Has anyone heard anything ?
  11. I’ve asked hwb. They have said that they prefer schools use it but there’s no requirement to do so.
  12. It really isn’t. I wish more people would understand that. Hwb don’t give any azure controls. They have added or are adding intune but with limited access / features which makes me a little suspicious.
  13. I’ve found out from Hwbs tech team that all schools are basically one tennant, so I doubt there’s much chance of more admin access.
  14. The grant money is just another attempt to force use of Hwb. Our LEA told schools that the money came with the condition we would use hwb. Also although it was billed as to improve IT in schools in wales, it’s primarily being spent on switches and internet infrastructure, because it’s actually just to make using hwb easier. I’ve heard rumours that the dream is to have no servers in schools and to have all machines joined to the hwb azure domain.
  15. I’m holding off but our LEA is trying to force us.
  16. All of the schools in hwb are on the same tenancy. Which might have something to do with it. I find it allow too.
  17. I first heard Capita were working on a fully cloud SIMS back in 2013. So...
  18. Don't suppose I could cheekily ask for you to send me a copy? Have to make one ASAP. Thanks
  19. I’ve been told to say exactly that. I was told of staff loose a file on Hwb and they haven’t backed up is their fault and to use the hwb helpdesk (email) I did point out that me saying that to a teacher when they’ve lost a file they need for next lesson would probably result in me getting a severe concussion but no one seemed to care.
  20. This is exactly the kind of ill thought out issue you get when HWB do something. 🤷♂️
  21. I’d buy SIMs. I’d rename all the non-core stuff expansion packs and stuff packs. I’d also only pay £500 quid for it
  22. If google did that they could get an advantage over MS in schools
