No that's not how cleanfeed works at all. The ISPs network routers maintain a list of 'bad' IP addresses. If HTTP traffic from subscribers is heading for these IPs then they get transparently proxied through the IWF servers with some basic url blacklist checking done. Otherwise the traffic is allowed to go on it's merry way. There's several fairly obvious ways around this. In order of craftyness: 1) Use TOR or a VPN. 2) stay away from port 80 (IRC DCC, FTP, Usenet, Bittorrent, Whatever). 3) Use SSL 4) Find a mirror/web proxy. The DNS workaround you posted will not work for cleanfeed. It's also worth noting that individal ISP blocks are not implemented the same way, leading to differing behaviour and levels of effectiveness. For example on Virgin, trying to access the TPB you cannot get to the TPB landing page. However you can pull up any of the other pages on the site without triggering the 'block' page. So a simple google search to find the direct link to what you want works, or 3rd party search tools that use the TPB web API still work fine. Also consider this effort is only concentrating on the bigger ISP and only on connections considered to be 'consumer'. If you pay a little more a month for a business class connection off XILO or AAISP you can continue on your merry way without worry about this affecting you.

I doubt it'll be any more robust than the cleanfeed system currently used.

I believe pulseaudio is confused. This is hardly unknown. You will have to hand edit your pulse audio configs to fix this.

from the aplay output, your HDMI is working at kernel/hardware level. Any alsa compatible application should be able to see it (try using aplay to play audio through the device to test).

Ah there you are. Any thoughts on the implementation process for this?

That would be workable simply based on the social stigma attached to being called out as a sex offender. Never mind any actual legal ramifications. Wait no, the bad guys have already thought of that. Mac Malware on the Rise ? Child Porn Ransomware Demands $300 Release Fee - IBTimes UK

The bootvis thing is the only situation I have come across that causes that log file to go massive. But yes, it's WMI not Symantec.

Yeah so about those tabloid 'page 3' photos....

The answer to that, much as people wont like to hear it, is that we can't if they are determined enough to get at it. School Techs, I would of thought, were some of the most experienced dealing with this issue on a regular basis. We have full control of our network, internet access and client PCs yet even we do not able to get it right 100% of the time. So given that, what possibility is there for an ISP to?

This has already happened before. The ISPs self regulation in this area under the guise of the IWF url filtering list has already gone down this road. Scorpions tale leaves IWF exposed ? The Register IWF block causing problems for Fileserve

That log file is produced from WMI. Did you run BootVis on the machine? If so you need to run it again and disable tracing.

Well that and I'm wondering how much lobbying £££ facebook is willing to throw around to stay off the 'bad' list.

That's next weeks policy announcement. I'll be interested to see if they block facebook, because surely some of the stuff on there falls well within their definitions.

Americans are quite fond of their 4th amendment rights. I very much doubt Google has much interest in being the Internet police for the British government. Tech for this already exists. This kind of filtering is already done on Mobile data connections. In my case with GiffGaff you have to go into the web account management interface and put in your passport number for checking.

Given this and the tax issues it would not surprise me if Google (and others) decide it's not worth the time and effort. They can still participate in the UK market without a UK office of course. To my mind it's not useful to be driving technology companies away when we still have such big economic issues.

Until the legal system moves at as fast as technology does technology will be impossible to regulate.

Looks like it might be a good time to get into the VPN business.

Post the output from 'aplay -l' and 'uname -a' The correct command to update your grub menus is 'sudo update-grub', not what you wrote.

Audio support for ATI Evergreen chipsets are only available in kernel 3.3 and newer. If you are on a 3.3 kernel ensure you're passing 'radeon.audio=1' as a boot time paramter (HDMI audio is disabled by default).

post the output from 'lsmod' and 'lspci' please.
