Server Virtualisation Project Proposal
Tallwood_6 replied to gshaw's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
To be fair the arguement that you have to pay extra to licence additional features on many of the other SANS's out there isnt quite as valid as it was a year or two ago. The Dell Equallogic & HP Lefthand P4000 series SAN's are extremely good and have pretty much all the features licenced out the box. I'd get some demo's on a number of solutions and see what best suits your needs as they each have key selling points, the SUN offers and array of functionality and protocol support, Equallogic argueably has a very easy to use front end, Lefthand have the hightly scalable network raid concept etc. -
We have SAN/ Host & Vsphere move planned for the summer and although i can grasp the design principles i think unless you have some hands on experience with the hardware and software in question then getting a 3rd party in is sensible and should help ensure you get the most from the available hardware.

Was this excellent engineer also based somewhere in India?

HP LeftHand P4300 4.8TB SAS Starter SAN would possibly be work a look and is what we are currently looking at implementing, an Equalogic setup maybe within your budget as well as the much raved about SUN 7000 series unified storage solutions.

Doesnt really answer the question now does it, and by certain brands you mean RM then i can tell you i have not come across any other software titles that require this and i have installed many many software titles a number of which are utter rubbish. PTC prodesktop doesnt seem have have this problem. -

And what are the security implications of just turning on the command promt script processing for students exactly? -
Cheap but no OS and Asrock motherboard, havent had great experiences with them in the past or at least after a couple of years of use.
-
I'd go AMD but they are very budget processors especially for an art dept.

I actually quite like it for what i'd use it for i.e surfuing the web/reading emails in the the living room, watching movies, reading books music etc in bed and generally will have a better battery life than a full on laptop and better screen than a netbook. The hardware itself doesnt look powerful enough to run OSX, linux etc or at least without some impact on battery life so the OS looks like a sensible option plus you undeniably get a good selection of applications within the app store. I think much like the orginal iphone it will come of age with the second generation and once developers get some good apps out designed solely for the device.

The spec and load on the server that it is backing up from seems to make quite a difference with regards to general backup speed the newest server with an agent gets 800MB/min while one of the older boxes only gets 625MB/min. The Autoloader speed i get nearly 5,000 MB/min but this is attached via SCSI and is only dealing with one duplication at at time.

To backup 4 servers with 460gb data between them takes about 3 hours 40 mins to backup to disk and about the same to duplicate that data on to LTO 4.

Hello James we have the 8tb D2D2T RM setup and it works very well, the fact that it runs server 2003 storage server doesnt really bother me as i'd rather have a box with a tried and tested OS for backup than 2008 r2 where you are going to have issues with backup exc drivers etc.

Recover WPA key held by 3rd party software (RM)

Its not My Connect connectivity would be handled by vista. You should be aware that many of the Nirsoft's programs are often flagged by antivirus (well sophos anyway). You are just cruising to get the machine taken away by the sounds of it.- 6 replies

Got the LEA unblock the sophos update address's at the top level filtering so i didnt have to use the proxy, re ran the SUM installer then stopped the update manager service, deleted these two .xlm files; * C:\Program Files\Sophos\Enterprise Console\SUM\specialactions.xml * C:\Program Files\Sophos\Enterprise Console\SUM\SUM_Status.xml Restarted the service, tried again and all was well.
-
Managed to get it working after another hour on the phone with sophos and some .xml deletions. Sophos releases of late have not been the most robust in the world, had issues with V3 which resulted in moving the console and all the clients to another server.
-
It wont connect to download at all, just get 'Timeout while attempting to connect to the specified address. There may be a problem with the network'
-
As anyone else had problems after upgrading from sophos enterprise 3 to 4 getting the update manager (replaces the em library) to actually get any updates? It seems from speaking to sophos and looking on there forums quite a few people are having issues in getting the new update manager talking through a proxy server. ISA in particular, i have however got the LEA to add all the exclusions in and i can now get to the update address's from outside the proxy but the update manager still cannot access with or without the proxy details in. LEA told me another school had a similar problem and went back to v3 but i'd rather avoid this if possible.

Have to agree, seems a little unfair to be done for being a little over indulgent with the christmas pudding and brandy butter. -

I'll take a pay freeze to jobless any day of the week and lets face it as much as i dislike labour when and not if the conservatives get in all our necks will be on the block because they sure as hell aren't going to look at reducing the number of teaching staff in schools ohh no. -
Every pre christmas release they seem to mess up, i left it and will be doing the upgrade sometime next week when i know everything is working better. Its a shame really they have had a stint of a reasonably problem free releases as well.

I can quite see why eportal wouldnt work. Does it work on the XP machines with ie8 on?
-
Indeed this seems to be a common problem, having run the upgrade on a test machine and found the reports are messed up we've decided to wait until a fix is in place.

I think although i'm not 100% certain that windows 7 starter edition is limited to 1gb RAM.
