This is very interesting. We're in the middle of a computer upgrade program and Windows 10 rollout upgrades from 8.1. We've only got Smart 11.4 for the site. But in the 5x IT suites it works I believe fine. Not had any reports but neither have I tested it extensively expect the touch and pens work. That's good enough for me.

Did you set a scheduled shutdown task from group policy then? Across all computers or just certain OUs?

No problem, it just gives us some context - as sometimes want teachers WANT to do versus what they actually NEED to do are 2x very different things. It puts us at odds with each other sometimes when they give them what they NEED instead of what they WANT. E.g. I've got a teacher who has perfectly 'adequate' (as in it's loud enough, works, but not the best) sound in their classroom, but complains the sound isn't loud enough and keeps pushing for a better sound system - when it's the same identical setup in multiple other classrooms, with no complaints. But why does that teacher expect a better and more expensive system when their needs have been met - so yes teacher WANT versus teacher NEEDS is a big pain in the bum.

That's another reason why I only install SIMs onto teacher stations in classrooms, the teacher station in IT suites and admin machines that are in areas students shouldn't be going into. There's only so much we can do in IT - I've lost count of the times I've walked past a classroom and the PC is unlocked with SIMs open.

This is why in some classrooms I've setup dual-screens. Connected via hardware not software so it just works. 1x Screen - Teacher Screen (Only the teacher can see anything put on here) 1x Screen - Classroom Screen (Anything shown on here, is shown on the board/projector/TV) So in that case, all they have to do is move the mouse/window/application between the 2x screens and anything shown on the classroom screen is either by mistake or intentionally shown. Puts the onus on the teacher. I've tried the Windows Key + P business and staff just don't understand or forget how to do it. I'm not going to fight them on something so stupid, so I'll put in solutions that work such as the above.

So we have a bit of context, what is your role within the school? I've always said it's a GDPR issue - we have it with TVs that have no freeze function.

I've read posts where apparently Windows 10 doesn't support WoL any more? We've got it working on Windows 10 on various bits of kit. Dells - no issues HPs - Had to downgrade the ethernet driver to get WoL to work and change some settings. We just use the RM CC4 console. One place we had Impero the WoL was very spotty.

Hi All, Has anybody every heard of a 'National Reference Test' ? Our exams officer has asked us to put this software onto computers, with no other information provided. Has anybody considered the hosted option of Xibo? Especially with them saying docker is the supported route for support. I got it Working on Windows 10 with docker but obviously that's not a server system.

Thanks!. I've been looking fof something similar to this for ages myself. They were either too complicated, too expensive, didn't work as promised looking at reviews etc. We had BBC News working through iPlayer via Xibo at one point years ago, but they changed something and we couldn't get it to work properly again. If the RSTP stream works that would be ideal.

I didn't think Docker worked on Windows 2016/2019 for Xibo?

We have an old computer here that controls some aspects of the heating system. Apparently it's the responsibility of the school to maintain and not that of the heating company (supposedly) and to clarify this the computer that runs the heating system and I was only told about it this morning.It's running Windows 7, local user account, on the network with Internet access with whatever software on it controls the heating. Been here long before my time started here. I'd be potentially looking at either upgrading with RAM or SSD or replacing the computer with a new one, running Windows 10 LTSC/LTSB. As they're saying the responsibility is ours and not the heating company, LTSC seems the simplest and best option for this case on face value. I don't want to have this as something IT become responsible for, I want to push it back to the site/heating company as much as I can. The PC is part of a workgroup so I was thinking a local install of Windows 10 LTSC, replicate the same settings they have on the current installation. I don't want to faff around with anything like converting the machine as to a VM as that puts the onus back on us and not them. The heating engineer can come in and install the software onto the new machine as he's advised he can do this. Have others encountered similar situations like this?

Live Mail was part of Windows Essentials. I'm sure that's been discontinued. It was on Windows 7 I had it setup for people, but moved them over a web-email system (Gmail) to be honest. Is that an option?

My predecessor obviously had similar thoughts. Seems he installed them once (Windows 8.1) and then that was it, no rebuilds etc anything. Some were installed in 2014 and had nothing done to them afterwards. Ironicially called LTSC when a version from only 4x years ago isn't supported anymore? That's a' Microsoft!

The term "over-engineered" springs to mind.

We've got similar in one room now. Smartboard in the middle of the unit and sliding whiteboards either side it can be covered up with. The new approach from Microsoft I see - release updates as "fixes" when they're actually bugs. Seems their approach to Windows 10 updates they've put into the final update for Windows 7 as well?

No this is a local scheduled task set on the local machine using the local admin account. No internet/network connection needed for that. I'm looking to have it locally wake and go to sleep via these local tasks. Just no joy with the wake task.

Hi, Yep wake timers are enabled. Still makes no difference. Tried it on a fresh build on Friday and nothing. Tried it on a device at home and nothing either.

No afraid not. Tried it on a few different model of computers and with different models of screens (using VGA and HDMI connections) with the same result. Sleep works perfectly. The wake from sleep does nothing. - Pressing the power button on the computer resumes it from standby - Pressing the wired keyboard resumes the computer from standby - Pressing the wireless keyboard resumes the computer from standby - Tried running as various local users/system/inbuilt accounts - no result. Seems like a common thing online for a few years, but still seems to be an issue - there's posts as far back as 2015 and as recently as 2018/19 with seemingly no fixes. But it's going to put a bit of a spanner in the works for some things I'd got planned with this setup. But it worked with no problems on Windows 7. I can always use WoL or BIOS boot timings to boot the computer, but that's not what I was trying to accomplish really.

Is anyone else finding any issues with computers running Windows 10 not waking from sleep? Running Windows 10 Pro x64 1903. No drivers missing etc. I've set a scheduled task to wake the computer from sleep, but it doesn't seem to be working on Windows 10. I can get the machine to sleep no problems. But anything I schedule to wake the machine from sleep via task scheduler, doesn't seem to work. The machine still sits in sleep mode and does nothing. Waking with a press of the keyboard, works fine - no issues. Yet task history shows the event has "successfully completed". I tried this in Windows 7 (in 2018, way before the recent support cut-off date) and it worked fine, no problems. I could get it to sleep and wake on schedule. It only seems to be Windows 10 that it's refusing to work on. Tried with: - Run only when user is logged on - Run whether user is logged on or not - Run with highest privileges Settings - Disabled Hibernation - Fast Startup disabled - Set to not ask for password when resuming from sleep The wider web seems to be full of the same issues from 2015 up until recently. Has anybody else encountered this problem?
