Can it? That sounds like it may be the way to go then if so. We do have Impero. Not currently deployed, in the process of removal so we can redeploy it again more cleanly. But when it's out, that would work.

How to re-install windows when it won't boot from CD's... I like giving a challenge :-)

I feel like your suggestions are good, I just have a feeling that it won't work that way, due to the nature of permissions etc.?

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to lock down USB's, so that staff/students can only use school purchased devices? That way, we can ensure they're encrypted and they're not going to be easily compromised if taken by the wrong people. I was thinking of doing it so simply to the point of having a hidden text file with a hash code that the machine would check on insertion. In hindsight that wouldn't work because the drive would be encrypted on insertion. ideas?

Not tried that, not something I've done before either. Is that fairly straight forward?

Afternoon all. I've encountered a bit of a problem, which is that I need to gain access to an old Server '03 box, which has some video files a few members of staff need, on it. Problem is - it's no longer in AD and I don't know the local administrator credentials... Tried an OPHCrack CD, but it doesn't seem to want to boot from a disc. The server is in a RAID configuration (I assume it'll be RAID5 - but I haven't checked for certain). How can I gain access and retrieve the media? Thanks!

Doesn't need to be of a high spec at all tbh. It's only a CMS, I use a Linux based box. It is an i3/4GB RAM mind, but we had it laying around... The clients don't need much either. I've got a pentium 2GB RAM for one of them, and I'm sure it could run with even lower spec!

I'd be down for that. Sounds awesome! Separate chartrooms of course for gaming/support etc. would be a very good idea.

Not in a union... As silly as it sounds, I've not really looked into unions. What are the options in that respect for NM's?

If it were to be argued against, or be it that the Headteacher told me to, would I be in the position to go against that request? I don't ever want to seem awkward or seeming to not fulfil a request, but if it's not legal/against their t's&c's...

I'm asked on a regular occurrence to assist with downloading YouTube videos, to which I've always tried to say no to. I was always under the impression it's against the law/terms and conditions etc. Can someone confirm the legalities of this and whether or not I am allowed to assist, for example when it comes to GCSE coursework? Don't want to get into trouble myself here...! Thanks.

I may give him access to a few servers a bit later on, like the print server etc. but not yet. Is there a way to create a security group and deploy that? In the sense of 'if more technicians were appointed I could add them all to one group/or remove them. That way I don't have to do it for individual users'?

The time has come where I've finally take on an apprentice technician to help me with managing the school! I'm creating him a separate account from his standard login, with no profile attached etc. and that will be his administrator account for when he goes out to jobs. Obviously I don't want him to have full unrestricted admin access, just install permissions and the basics to bypass UAC prompts. What group could I add him into in AD to give just these permissions? A quick Google was talking about the NT AUTHORITY groups, but I'm not overly familiar with these? Thanks!

We've got an Intranet here which I've put a button on today to drop down a BBC News RSS feed (fancy I know). What I want to do, is have the machine remember the last state the button was in. So, if student A goes to the Intranet and presses 'Show BBC News Feed', when they come back to the Intranet later, it should automatically show. However, if they then press 'Hide BBC News Feed' it should remember that they hid it. Any ideas? PS - I'm not HTML/JavaScript/JQuery genius, so please be patient!

I've got a problem in Visio. I'm trying to put a door in a gap between two walls, but it seems to snap and intrude into one of the walls? I've tried turning off snapping/gluing but still does the same. True. True. I would ideally get staff on the Outlook client. But you can do that with 365 anyway can't you?

Not sure, where would I try that? It's something I'm looking into now. Don't want to continue with these Exchange problems, so it may be the best option! However, the main downside is if we have an internet failure, then there is no email access.

Gave that registry update a shot, still same error :/ I know what you mean, however I've heard mixed reviews on 365, plus wouldn't migrating potentially cause more issues...?

Any ideas? (Sorry for bump, but a bit desperate here!)
