Block greater than 2mb jpeg/png files on network
BlueSkies replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
Ahh .. for a moment there, I thought all my Christmases might have come at once! Magically resizing image files would be in the Top 3 of my Wish List ... probably even sitting at Number 1!! Currently I do this every so often by just searching the server for *.jpg and then using the Image Resizer tool to shrink them ... and then sitting gleefully as I watch the free space on the server gradually increase by GBs at a time!! Thanks for the link to your blog - I will give it a read. -
Block greater than 2mb jpeg/png files on network

Hi Zag, how do you implement this? Do you mean via a group policy? Would love to know! -
Hello, We have a very, very old file server sitting in the cupboard and a pile of equally old backup tapes (found them in a dusty box!!). One of the tapes contains some historical information which someone here would like to access. However - I believe at the time the file server was alive and backing up to the tapes, it was running Server 2003. I have started the server up and managed to login to it (!) however, I can't see a way of accessing the tape drive. I have copied the old NTBackup files (which is what they used to use to backup to tape when it was running Server 2003) across to the server but when I run it, I cannot "see" the tape drive. Will I need some other drivers to get it going? I had a look on Sony support site, but so far have drawn a blank! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, I am looking into purchasing a cabinet for our two tower servers and UPS and have come across this company's website Server Racks, Data Centre Solutions & Rack Accessories - Orion. Has anyone used them in the past - would you recommend them? The cabinets seem very reasonably priced. Any info or alternative suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Help! Junior Librarian - Database file has disappeared!
BlueSkies replied to BlueSkies's topic in Educational Software
Hi, yes the files are backed up every night so I am hopeful that I can get back to where I need to be! I have searched the server - no sign of library.mdb anywhere!! :-( Very strange! -
Hello, We are running MLS Junior Librarian (database located on file server). This morning, when loading the JL software it is displaying an error message that it is unable to locate the database file (and the path is correct). If I look in the network drive where the library database file should be - library.mdb is not there! The following files are present: library.bak security.mdb security.bak locks.mdb locks.bak I have NO idea how the library.mdb file can just disappear - has anyone else ever seen this happen??! Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I am going to restore a backup taken earlier in the week and hopefully this will get me back to where i need to be, but am just very curious as to what might have happened!! Thanks

Just looking at 65" Prowise screens. They are described as "Anti-reflection" and I wondered if this is the same as anti-glare - or something slightly different?! Has anyone had one of these to demo and is the screen any better or worse than its competitors? Any other comments or info on the Prowise solution would be appreciated! Thanks! -

Hi Joanne, would you be able to tell me what the licensing arrangements are the for the Lynx software that comes with the CleverTouch boards? Are you free to install it on all teacher laptops, or do you need to purchase additional licenses per seat? Thanks in advance. -
Hi there, I am just looking into procuring a new MFD for our school office. Does anyone have experience of using the MFDs provided by Xerox under Lot 1 of the RM1599 Framework? In particular, we are looking at the Xerox Workcentre 7220 .... Thanks!

Hi bossman, Just wondered how you are getting on with the Epson Workforce Pro printers. Do you use original ink or compatibles? I am looking into replacing some ageing HP Business Inkjets - but am having problems finding something as cost effective and reliable! Thanks! -
Locking browsers to only visit set pages/sites
BlueSkies replied to BlueSkies's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thank you all for your replies - I think I will give kiosk mode a go. I can create the shortcuts and drop them into the shared folder for them to use - great! :-) -
Hi there, Is there an easy way to "lock" a browser (preferably IE) so that it can only visit a particular page/site? Asking for our Reception teachers who spend a bit of time each morning navigating to a particular website, only to turn around and find the children have browsed away to something they want to do instead! Is there a bit of software that would help to lock them down? Thanks in advance!

Thanks pcstru, that's great info. I have just registered on the site and am awaiting approval to be able to view pricing. Has anyone else out there used this procurement route? Thanks :-)

Hi there, We currently have a single office printer (Lexmark 560n) which is now five years old and perhaps time for it to be replaced. It was purchased outright at the time and we currently pay a cost per print which includes toner, maintenance, parts, service, labour, etc. We have been quoted for a newer Lexmark (XS748DE) with the option of putting it on a 5-year lease, costs as follows: Quarterly Lease cost: £105 Mono cost per copy: 0.55p Colour cost per copy: 5.5p (based on current copy volumes of 7k per quarter BW/2k per quarter colour) I wondered how this compares with what other people have in place? Has anyone else done something similar, or have any advice/suggestions of more cost effective solution? Just as a bit of additional info, we also have 4 old HP Business Inkjet printers currently used in classroom areas for pupils to print to. I have been reading a bit about managed print solutions - but wondered whether it would be worth it for such a small number of devices? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you! Thanks in advance

[free] Anyone interested in some HP Laserjet 1600 Laser Printers?
BlueSkies replied to BlueSkies's topic in Classified Adverts
I am on the Beds/Bucks border :-) -
Hi there, We have four HP Laserjet 1600s which are no longer used. Would anyone be interested in them before I consign them to the big printer queue in the sky? They are all suffering from the magenta fade issue to some degree or another - but I have it on good authority (Google!) that there is a way of resolving the problem. Give me a shout if you are interested - or if anyone knows of a company who would take them off my hands and perhaps recondition them to sell on ... Thanks

Hello Gaz, I was just wondering how you are getting on with the HP printer ... am looking at perhaps purchasing one so if you have any words of wisdom, they would be much appreciated!! How much are the replacement cartridges? Thanks!

I have two SmartBoard SB540 IWBs which were recently taken out of service. Despite their age, they do still work and we have all the cables/pens/etc to go with them. It would be nice to find them a new home (and perhaps get a few pounds for them)! Let me know if you are interested. We are based in Bedfordshire.
