I have a process that is meant to run at 8pm to generate an output file and put it into a shared folder. Im looking for a way to check a shared folder for the existence of the file, and then send an email if it doesn't exist. As its a shared folder, I guess I could run this as either a Linux cron based script or run it as a scheduled task on the windows server itself. My problem is I dont know how to write scripts Could anyone please assist? Many thanks!!

So Ive got a DG834GT Netgear, solid as a rock with an uptime of 1100 days and an 11mb sync for over a year. Internet at this location has been flawless. And now Sky have come and taken over, and they require changes to the ADSL modem settings.... Thing is, I only have remote access to the modem, and they require changing multiple settings that I will lose connection once I change one setting before I get a chance to change the other. My idea was to download the config file, make the required changes, and then upload the new config. Problem is I dont know what the conf should look like with the new settings. Does anyone happen to have a spare DG834GT Adsl modem they could make some changes to the settings for me and send the backup.cfg file I can use for the settings? (Or have another suggestion as to how I can make these changes remotely pls)

Exchange offline for 2 months, now wont mount DB
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Enterprise Software
After about a week of it not working, it just sprung to life all by itself -
My dev hyperv box went down taking exchange and a DC with it, it was over 2 months before I could get it back online (yay 10,000 miles away) The host is back up now, and the DCs seem to be replicating OK via ADSS however gpupdate is failing and Exchange wont start the transport service or information store. EMC and EMS show the DB as unable to mount. (both GPupdate and exchange services are showing a 'transient error' which makes me think of DNS but that seems to be OK) This is just a dev/testing setup so not a big deal; Ive got a backup of the exchange DB from the moment it went offline. Is this worth pursuing a fix for educational value, or should i just demote / repromote the DCs that were offline, and create a new exchange DB and restore the backup?

Im looking into options for our new server room, and thinking rather than the original racks to get the hot aisle containment that Data Centers are using these days. The think I cannot understand though, is the consequences of losing power, where the ACs go out but the Servers keep running. Surely the hot Aisle will just heat up exponentially and cause the servers to shut down a lot quicker than in a normal rack / room? Are there any Schools using the Hot Ailse containment in their server rooms?

SCCM 2012 - Group membership query
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Enterprise Software
Im abandoning the idea, and instead just going to go after computers that have Sophos installed. Ive got a remove_sophos.bat file from Sophos, which works great when run manually from an elevated command prompt, however I cannot seem to get it to work via SSCM. Ive created the package with the .bat as the program, it seems to deploy and run but its not removing sophos Anyone got a better method with SCCM to remove Sophos? -
Im in the process of migrating away from sophos and onto Endpoint protection. Im looking to create a collection which membership rules are 'has sophos but doesn't have endpoint protection' How would I go about this please, the SCCM queries baffle me

[POLL] Should Scotland be an independent country?
RabbieBurns replied to Gatt's topic in General Chat
Im flying back for the 14th to cast my YES vote. I may not live there currently, but I want to think that any kids I have, whether born here or in Scotland, will have a country to be proud of. Not one dictated upon from a city in another country. -
I'm not sure if this is an exchange issue or an outlook issue, but I have one shared mailbox, that whenever either of the users with the mailbox mounted tries to send to multiple (10 or more) mailboxes, outlook will lock up and become non responsive. Could it be something as simple as just a too low spec machine? Or is there something inherantly wrong with either Outlook or Exchange 2010 causing this to happen?

exchange asking for credentials every time its opened
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Enterprise Software
new year, new site wide password change, and this issue has reappeared. I cant really go recreating all the outlook profiles again. Exchange is now at SP3, and pretty fully patched, could it be an outlook update that is missing that would fix this? -
hello and happy new year to you all. First post of the year my sister has smashed her apple macbook air screen (2010 model), and apple want 400 quid to replace it. Is there anyone 3rd party in London who can do a reputable replacement of a macbook air screen that anyone here could please recommend that will be cheaper? Cheers!

a failed 3rd attempt is normally an automatic return to sender, doesnt necessarily mean it was refused by the receiver, i think?

there are a bunch of Hotfixes for windows 7, that dont come down through the normal WSUS and need to be installed manually, some of which address the windows 7 slow login issue. Microsoft rolls out a new hotfix for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 | ZDNet
