HyperV errors after maintance mode
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
VMs are on cluster shared storage (SAN) can see them but not run them. Tried the command about permissions (see a previous post) and it hasnt fixed them. Can create a new virtual machine, but cannot create a VHD for it. I get an error similar to this: -

yes the server mentioned in the first post is up, has the VMs local to it, but cannot start them. -
HyperV errors after maintance mode

and now the other host has gone down and i cant seem to turn it back on via remote console.. so all my VMs are offline.... FUCK!! -
how much configuration / time does it take to get up and running? I dont mind paying for a solution which will just work out of the box and will take minimal time to get up and running, compared to a free product which will take a week of my time to tweak and configure to get perfect...

cheers ill sign up for a couple of them and give them a whirl. Not sure an online hosted one is for us, especially as its per tech per month, but it seems they do a perpetual license as well which would suite us better.. budget would be a couple of hundred bucks i guess so it seems what their prices are.. cheers all

this is still happening when I reboot, the cluster service service doesn't stop and i need to use the aforementioned fix to remotely kill the process and then it will shutdown / reboot successfully. Theres a load of posts on technet about this too but none seem to offer a solution... Ive attached the output of cluster.log which is what a lot of the technet articles talk about but not sure if anyone can help... Cluster.zip

HyperV errors after maintance mode
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Ive just done a couple of reboots and now I'm seeing this in the event logs each time which might explain it Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering Date: 31/08/2012 4:41:15 PM Event ID: 1069 Task Category: Resource Control Manager Level: Error Keywords: User: SYSTEM Computer: HYPERV1.domain.au Description: Cluster resource 'LUN 0003 (Witness Disk)' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed. that looks like they have to fill out a form to create a ticket though, rather than send just an email? edit: and also looks like they have logged in to something as well. http://bestpractical.com/static/images/screenshots/rt/4.0/ticket_create.png (just running out the office so apologies if im wrong, will have a proper look when i get home..)

HyperV errors after maintance mode

Also, the cluster validation passes everything except for a couple of windows updates which are not yet installed on the other host. -
I put a hyperV host into maintenance mode, ran some updates (including a BIOS and Firmware update for the system) however now I cannot migrate any Virtual machines back to this host. The error I get is this: Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-High-Availability Date: 31/08/2012 3:05:18 PM Event ID: 21502 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: User: SYSTEM Computer: HYPERV1.domain.au Description: 'Virtual Machine TypeQuick' live migration did not succeed at the destination. (I have been having lock-ups with this host in question which is what prompted me to put it into maintenance mode and run updates etc)

Hi webman, still using this great bit of software.. Liking a lot of the suggestions made as well so its a shame you don't have time to implement them.. would perhaps starting a PayPal donation scheme help you find the time.. anyway, Im trying to run a report of how many toners I have added to the system however it seems to only show how a report of individual dishing out of toners.. Is there something simple i can do (either through mysql on the command line or adding to the php code) that will give me a dump the toners added in a definable period please?

We currently use just a shared mailbox for our helpdesk, it is becoming unmanagable. We want to replace it with a proper ticket based solution. However we want to keep the method of opening tickets the same - users simply fire off an email to helpdesk. I don't want to have to maintain a database of users, I don't want users to have to register, or login to websites, or fill in forms, just simply send an email to an address with their problems and the system will automatically log a ticket etc and we can then do whatever.. Dont mind paying for a proper system.

If Microsoft offered the simple simple option of "use windows 7 start menu" in windows 8, I would have more than likely already deployed it across the board.

have had MPIO errors appear overnight in our 2 host hyperV cluster.. at lunchtime today one of the hosts locked up, and although most of the VMs failed over to the other, a number failed to come back online due to the LUN they were on being unavailable to the host. Once the failed host came back, the path to the LUN was available "redirected" and I cannot turn off redirection Ive checked the SAN (Hitachi AMS 2100) and there doesnt seem to be any errors in there, the Clustering BPA doesnt seem to show anything that I notice as being an issue... Theres multiple errors about multipath, clustering on one of the hosts Cluster Shared Volume 'Virtual Machine Drives 00' ('LUN 0000') is no longer directly accessible from this cluster node. I/O access will be redirected to the storage device over the network through the node that owns the volume. This may result in degraded performance. If redirected access is turned on for this volume, please turn it off. If redirected access is turned off, please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and I/O will resume to a healthy state once connectivity to the storage device is reestablished. At the moment, if I lose the other host, I lost the path to the SAN. What should I be looking at as the event logs dont really give me a reason why things have started to play up..

I would just buy VLC, they are fairly well priced for education.

How do you design your VHDs on Hyper V
RabbieBurns replied to MrWu's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
How long would it take to convert a 1.5TB dynamically expanding to a fixed disk, and can it be done online or should the server be offline? -
skydrive.com has completely removed our co-branding. Is this something we can re-enable?

[Skydrive] - Shared file does not email link to recipient

Seems it was a glitch and it fixed itseelf after about 50 hours. Microsoft said it was not related to any behind the scenes upgrades to our domain. Ah well, working OK now. -
IPSec SSL VPN p2p tunnel w/o Hardware
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in How do you do....it?
thanks, i think more reading is required for sure. I disconnected and reconnected and now now pings are working. Also, before I disconnected even though pings were OK no other protocol was communicating either way. -
IPSec SSL VPN p2p tunnel w/o Hardware
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in How do you do....it?
Aha i figured it out. I changed the metric in the static route in RAS to 3 rather than the default 256 and it works. Also replicated the setup in sydney. I can now ping from my laptop here to the scotland network. That was pretty easy actually now I understand whats going on. Thanks for your help SYNACK. -
IPSec SSL VPN p2p tunnel w/o Hardware
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in How do you do....it?
Certainly when I have used OpenVPN it uses a separate network for sure. Ill give those links a read at work in the morning, thanks I have installed the role on both yes. Ill try with a separate network just now - i just left it as the default which was DHCP.
