  1. so the idea that a student owned device will 'save' money, will actually cost the school more in licensing costs?
  2. how does the CALs thing work with EES when you only license per full time employee?
  3. We are looking at VDI as being a solution to BYOD. Students bring whatever device they like - ipad, macbook, wintel, etc, and are all able to use the same desktop experience. Got a demo of citrix in and it seems to work pretty well with the connector and ios/android etc. What other providers are there?
  4. The ones Im caring about that are causing issues are windows 7 domain joined devices. There may be tablets and phones in there (printers are all static assigned) but there is an issue where our Firewall/filter uses DNS lookups to match the current machine name (which it gets from monitoring logon events in DC) to an IP. For these devices where theres no reverse dns lookup available, auto-authentication to the firewall fails, and the users drop to NTLM authentication and have to enter their credentials in a pop up box which is a PITA.
  5. none of the entries in DHCP that are missing a hostname have an entry in DNS. This is the problem.
  6. Ive demo'd an xps12 and an Acer S7 and both came provided with a PXE bootbale USB-Ethernet dongle
  7. These are my settings can you please tell me if there is something not quite right:
  8. We mount the students home folder as \\server\students\year\username\my documents However someone stuffed something up when they created this years batch of accounts; the user has the correct permissions on \username\ but these are not set to be inherited on the My documents folder or other sub folders. How can I use icacls to run through the entire \students\year share and ensure that the subfolders within \username have the same perms inherited from \username. (Ive tried NTFSFix and it sets the correct permissions on \Username but doesnt set them to be inherited to subfolders..
  9. not that im aware of, no. Out of about 2000 devices theres only about 30-40 that dont have a hostname.
  10. I seem to have a whole bunch of DHCP entries that do not have a corresponding host name (see attached) This is causing problems with nslookup and things that rely on it.. Not entirely shure what is causing this. Any ideas?
  11. OK i think the problem was they had send on behalf permissions in mail flow settings and not send as permissions. I have changed that. Sent items sent from the shared mailbox should go to the shared sent items. Sent items sent from their own mailbox should go to their own sent items. Hopefully that should have sorted it, will test tomorrow. Thanks
  12. The 'sent on behalf of..' is strange as well as it seems to be sending through their mailbox and not sending directly from the shared mbox
  13. Right think i figured this out. The Microsoft Exchange Forms Based Authentication service wasn't starting automatically. Ive started it and seem to be able to get OWA Working as expected. It didnt survive reboot so Ive set it to Automatic Delayed start and it seems to work OK.
  14. These are both local Exchange accounts, there's no POP. It is like you say, they have 2 mailboxes in Outlook, their own and the shared. When they send from the other mailbox though, it comes up as 'From Jane Bloggs on behalf of Shared Mailbox' Rather than 'From Shared Mailbox' We have other shared mailboxes around the place and they work as expected; when one of the users sends an email it gets sent 'From' the shared box name, and goes into the correct sent items. Its just this one that seems different
  15. ^^ I received this email from an office department and I have no answer for them. Can anyone assist with what they are experiencing and what I might do to explain and or resolve please?
  16. Still here at 9.30pm. The ISP has just finally admitted its their fault. (the sccm rdp issue was a simple 2 min fix)
  17. No bad experiences with 2013 per se, it installed fine on a test domain, I just don't like the OWA, the fact that the management console is now web based, etc. Have you seen/used it? I wont be putting SP3 on my live environment for quite a while for sure, just testing it in one of the development domains.
  18. ahh it seems the main internet line went down and failed over to the backup. Im forcing all outgoing mail out the backup line but all incoming services are down as they all point to the main line. Totally unreleated to the SCCM issue Whats the 3rd thing gonna be today
  19. blocking externally, internal seems ok. I have manually uninstalled the SCCM agent and fFP
  20. its also blocking exchange from sending and recieiving emails.. arcgh.
  21. One of the techies here has somehow managed to deploy the SCCM client and endpoint security to all my servers. This has resulted in RDP being disabled and greyed out and I cannot enable it. What has he done, and how can I fix this?!?!
  22. outlook, outlook anywhere and activesync are working fine but OWA is messed up. Ive reset the IIS dirs, can get to the login page, but then it just goes to /owa/auth.owa and no further .. Anyone else testing SP3 yet?
  23. Sony reveals the first official details of the PlayStation 4 | Ars Technica Not much of a gamer, only ever play pro evo.
  24. testing this on my dev domain. Its messed up OWA and outlook anywhere. Fun.
  25. Thanks Witch, they look very similar. I wonder if i can find an AU supplier.
