Define: Intel i5 "lasting longer" than the AMD 955. I still have my 6400 BE Dual Core AMD. Overvolted to 1.55v and clocked at 3.76Ghz, been running like that for the last three years and has yet to fail me.

AM2 Platform and that Phenom II 955. You wont get better value for money from that, and the 955 is marginally more comparable than the i5 at default factory clocks. C2D's are still alive and running well, would you honestly get dual core, when quad is so available to you? If it were me? and I had the money, I'd have the i5 platform (overclocked naturally), dont forget the i5 has a built in graphics processor, not on the board, in the processor. So could be quite handy.

I own two x 4890's and they are absolutely faultless, Crysis 1920x1080 Enthusiast settings and it runs very smooth indeed. Word of warning: 1) They run very hot, around 50c idle, and peak at 80-83c when on full load. 2) They are very very very noisy cards when on full load, the noise they make is immense, never had a card that loud. Saying that, I wouldn't trade mine for any of the newer 5xxx series just for DX11 and Eyefinity, when the cards I've got trumps all.

My other-half is an avid photographer and has been displayed in various newspapers, the backdrop on the South West BBC1 Weather broadcast numerous times and won various regional competitions. She even made me attend a Photography seminar at Strode College in Street with some world renown Nature photographer, it was very good infact. Always wanted to try IR photography as just like the composure of the images.

What about running the transaction logs on a single drive rather than raid drive? They aren't the end all, and you could robocopy these off somewhere nightly, I can see a new drive failing any time soon, at least that gives you a hot-spare for the Raid 10 array there. And as a note, if you get the Perc 6/i controller with the chassis, enjoy the nightmare that is getting the drivers loaded during server install. What a PITA that was. Need to download the drivers, download dells special USB flash utility and flash the files to the drive to get it too work, I tried numerous times just copying the files over, but alas it wont work, and no Dell documentation stated I needed this flash tool

Just got ourselves a R610 as a SQL server. 2 x 146 Raid 1 for OS, and 2 x 146 Raid 1 or SQL. This has been advised and sufficient in Raid 1 with the Transaction logs on the same drive. Our ERP system is very SQL intensive, and our developers state this would be more than adequate, so can't see a single fault with the above specification.

Everyone harps on about the 920 d0 stepping being the end all, however the 930 is out now and the 920's are starting to fade, they are costly, added you need triple channel memory and a socket 1366 motherboard (X58 Chipset) Where as the i5 750 will clock to the to 2.66ghz verse 2.80ghz of the i7. Both will overclock to 4.00Ghz without any fuss, and then the only difference being Hyperthreading of the i7, and having 8 threads (Two per core) verse the 1 per core of the i5. There really isn't an application demand for having 8 threads. i5 uses the P55/H55 chipset as well which is faultless. And to answer the question as why new chips are out. 1) New manufacturing process, moving everything to 45nm, and now 32nm. 2) Greener processors, the smaller the nm, the less W they need (or so they say) 3) Triple Channel memory, 1800-2100mhz frequencies. 4) The new 32nm Intel Core i9 is due for release very soon, 6-core, 12-threads, expect the £1000 price range for that.

Why advise someone to invest in something that they cannot even afford. Re-read the thread. n (Defiantly the first line of the thread) I highly doubt your real world testing actually works as previously stated in this thread. How many laptops in your school, or perhaps his school are 802.11 N compatible for a start. And you fail at real life references as well 30 AP's supporting 40 laptops and then failing to support 120, thats "four" devices per access point. We have 30 in a classroom with a single £60 access point just trundling away. Perhaps I'd class that as p*** poor planning and incompetent staff. Thanks for your time, and enjoy your dinner.

Firstly Concordance was a program for Litigation documents, however the system and design were borrowed and added to various other products around the globe, therefore it is a principal. It's how the system was designed, how it was set-up, interaction, searching, data-mining, general, database set-up and overview that was move from this piece of software. We used a piece of software in the Speech and Language department at the RUH in Bath, that used the same back end and design to control litigation documents, which was modified to-do a completely new task. As far as you were aware indeed. It may have been designed for that use, but its moved into pastures new. It's not just for legal stuff, its very hand for data-mining as well as language teaching. Concordance isn't an entity assigned to a single task, its also a very good principal system other software can inherit. Viagra was designed for a completely different purpose other than male impotency (I'm sure it was designed for head-aches), a prime example of something starting and than moulding into various other platforms
